Diamond Select G.I. JOE Legends in 3D Storm Shadow 1/2 Scale Limited Edition Bust
Transcript
00:00 Thanks to those rubber feet on his base, he can move around on your shelf without making a sound.
00:06 Here's your look at the new Diamond Select GI Joe Legends in 3 Dimensions Storm Shadow 1/2 Scale Resin Bust.
00:26 Storm Shadow is an elite Cobra Ninja operative and an exiled member of the Rushikage Ninja Clan, one of Japan's legendary families.
00:33 He trained in the methods of infiltration and combat, extremely skilled, blindly fast, incredibly resilient, and devastatingly lethal.
00:41 Elite level expert in a variety of martial arts and array of ninja weaponry, destined to be the leader of the Rushikage,
00:47 before fate took a turn and sent him on a different path into the ranks of Cobra.
00:52 This approximately 10 inch tall 1/2 scale bust of Storm Shadow is based on his appearance in GI Joe cartoons and comics.
00:59 It features a high level of detail and exacting paint applications, and is limited to an edition of only a thousand pieces.
01:06 Now I can't speak for Snake Eyes, but I know his foil in the cartoons was always spirit.
01:10 I wonder if we're going to be getting a Legends in 3 Dimensions spirit.
01:13 Just before we get a closer look at Cobra member Storm Shadow, I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select
01:19 that did provide this sample in the Legends in 3 Dimensions Storm Shadow, that we could have a look at this review.
01:23 The statue should be available right now either in stores if you're lucky enough to find one, or you can also order it online.
01:29 Storm Shadow stands exactly 9 inches in height, or the statue is about 23 centimeters tall.
01:36 For those following this channel as of late, thank you for that by the way,
01:39 we've already had a look at a Legends in 3 Dimensions, and it so happens to be also a member of Cobra.
01:44 I'm going to bring in the earlier looked at Legends in 3 Dimensions Destro, so you guys can see that from a size standpoint,
01:50 they scale well with one another.
01:52 They also have completely, completely different display bases,
01:56 and Storm Shadow also has a whole lot of additional armory on the back of his body as well.
02:00 But before we talk about ninja weapons, let's talk about ninja certificates of authenticity.
02:05 What?
02:06 On one side, we've got ourselves an image of what Storm Shadow will look like as a statue.
02:10 On the other side though, it is to tell us that this is an authentic Diamond Select statue release of Storm Shadow 1/2 Scale Resin Bust.
02:17 The one that was kindly provided by Diamond is 455 out of the limited run of 1,000 pieces.
02:23 Knowing very well what I was going to be getting into with Storm Shadow,
02:26 one of my biggest issues really is any issue I have with resin busts arriving damaged.
02:31 Now obviously, Diamond is always very carefully packing any of their bust resin or not inside styrofoam trays,
02:37 and they do carefully wrap a lot of those things as well.
02:40 But ever so often, even you may have noticed at the beginning,
02:43 that Storm Shadow actually has a bigger box than Destro,
02:46 just to accommodate all the extra things that he has on his torso.
02:49 But those things were the things I was the most worried about, whether they would arrive snapped, especially the swords.
02:55 Because if you look at actually the back of the actual statue, let me just spin this around so you guys can see.
03:00 He's got a dual pair of katanas. He's got himself a bow.
03:03 He's got himself a quiver contained with arrows.
03:05 If that's not enough, he's also got a couple of throwing knives and a shuriken.
03:09 Any one of those things, more specifically these two things, could have snapped inside the tray.
03:14 But what they did do, though, they added some additional cling film,
03:17 wrapping carefully around, kind of interweaving in between each of the swords.
03:21 And then they also as well added a rectangular square of styrofoam in between,
03:25 wedged between the bow and the katanas, just to ensure that these wouldn't rattle around.
03:30 And luckily, again, taking everything off, nothing shows damage, at least nothing I can see, at least.
03:36 We'll go back to this more in a second.
03:38 One thing, obviously, I did want to show you guys as well with the statue bust is the base.
03:41 The base is always something that they try to tie into the character.
03:44 And what I really like about Storm Shadow, similar to what they did with Destro and his gauntlet missiles,
03:48 is that if you look at the base, just at first glance, you may think it's just a Rishikage temple stone,
03:54 like a little podium, for example.
03:56 It is octagonal in shape, and on each of the sides there's actually the Rishikage symbol.
04:02 But then if you look at it this way, what it actually is is the handle of a sword, more specifically a katana.
04:08 The blade would be absent, of course. The blade would be the part that sticks out this way.
04:12 But what we have here is the handle of the katana.
04:15 And of course, this would just be the guard in front of it.
04:17 Very nice way to incorporate the idea that he's a ninja wielding around swords
04:21 by actually giving him the top hilt and guard of a sword.
04:25 By the way, that's also very nicely painted.
04:27 You can see each of the Rishikage symbols, as well as the one that's on the front, is nicely painted.
04:32 No paint problems. I don't have any paint bleeding at all.
04:35 I love the way they've actually got this so it looks like it's actually wrapped material.
04:38 And I'm sure if I was to continue on the rest of the handle here,
04:41 if it wasn't for Storm Shadow being in the way,
04:43 you probably would also see a couple of maybe diamond-shaped motifs as it works its way up the sword handle.
04:49 Probably very similar, in fact, to what we get over here.
04:51 I think that's really smart on Diamond's part to do a base where it's actually a handle of a katana.
04:56 I mean, obviously, it's not just the base that you guys would want to look at.
05:00 You guys also want to be seeing the face sculpt for Storm Shadow.
05:03 I think, you know, if you are a fan of the original classic Sun Bao cartoon,
05:07 you're really going to like this one a lot.
05:09 Now, being that he's mostly white-clad,
05:11 they could have also just arrived at this statue with only mostly having white.
05:14 I think, honestly, by adding the additional grey that they did,
05:17 I think adds a little bit of contrasting appeal to it.
05:20 It also gives you a chance that things like the side of his ear, for example,
05:23 where you can see the wrinkles around this,
05:25 if this was just, say, this color, the lighter white,
05:28 I think a lot of those details may have been lost in the mix.
05:31 By darkening some of those, almost borderlining making it more dirtier,
05:34 it really gives a chance for the sculpt to really shine.
05:37 He does have the strap on the side that's going to be the thing that's basically holding all the armor in the back of his body.
05:42 And, of course, he's also got that trademark Cobra symbol on the side of his outfit as well.
05:46 Carefully, again, we spin this around.
05:48 I know we already kind of looked at this already.
05:50 He has two katanas on the back. They're actually not the exact same either.
05:53 Even though it looks like the hilts are the same and the handles are similar,
05:56 you can see the guard, one is more of a rectangular shape and one is more of a circular shape.
06:01 And, again, if to look at all of the individual little orbs of red,
06:05 none of them seem like there's any paint bleeding.
06:07 I don't see anything where the paint's bled onto the black around it.
06:10 Everything is, again, really well-painted on these pieces.
06:13 And, of course, he's also got himself the bow there.
06:15 To go along with the bow, he's got himself some arrows.
06:18 And, again, an opportunity probably could have been here where not only these could have been broken or also badly painted.
06:24 But, again, to look at them, each of the feathers is very cleanly done.
06:27 And even the stem that has the feathers, even though that would be a hard thing to get in there to hand-paint if these are being hand-painted.
06:34 You can see, like, each one of them, that brown doesn't look at all like it's bleeding onto the white around it.
06:39 Then, of course, you've got yourself the Ureshikaji symbol there on the top, a shuriken, a couple of throwing blades.
06:44 It is certainly a really nice piece.
06:47 And, again, the thing I really like also about Storm Shadow is that he scales really well with Destro.
06:51 If you already have the Destro or you are also collecting the Legends in 3D, even if they are perhaps from different franchises, different licenses,
06:59 they all kind of scale about the same size with one another.
07:02 The only thing about this is that Storm Shadow, if you were to, say, order this one online,
07:06 being that he's also in a bigger box to accommodate all the other things that he has on the back of his body,
07:11 it might also mean that you're probably going to be paying a little bit, maybe, more for shipping than if you were to, say, order Destro.
07:16 Because, just again, like, Destro is a little bit smaller.
07:18 Destro is a taller character, but where maybe Storm Shadow just doesn't have as much of the height,
07:23 he more than makes up for it with the armory that he has on the back of his body.
07:27 Like with Destro, Storm Shadow is a slightly older Legends in 3D statue, which is actually a good thing for you collectors,
07:34 if you guys are looking to get this one and you didn't get the chance to get this one before,
07:37 as it's been marked down quite heavily on some of the sites.
07:40 In fact, one of the sites that I was looking at, BBTS, had the statue originally at $179.99, so it's about $180.
07:46 But right now, it's been, like, marked down to under $100. It's $99.99.
07:51 Not that I'm necessarily advertising for big BBTS, but if, again, you guys are interested and would like to get this one for yourself,
07:57 it is still in stock, and you might actually even benefit from not getting the chance to get this the first time,
08:02 because you could probably save yourself a little bit of money in the process.
08:05 Definitely looking forward to putting this one on the shelf, along with the Destro I already have on my shelf.
08:09 Being a big fan of the original Real American Hero cartoon series, statues like this,
08:14 even though Diamond's been knocking it out of the park with all of her Legends in 3D,
08:17 those ones that are attached to 80s cartoons are the ones that are most right up my alley.
08:22 I like the look of Storm Shadow. I mean, initially, I may have thought, like, the colors on him maybe looked a little too dingy,
08:28 but I think there's still enough white to a suit that it resonates for me as a white suit ninja.
08:33 They just also added a little bit of airbrushing in it, too, just to bring some of those details out.
08:37 If, by the way, though, you guys are also interested to get this one for yourselves,
08:41 just double-check, though, when you are taking this guy out of the tray.
08:44 Just be really careful, because, again, there's so much stuff going on on the back of his body.
08:48 Unlike Destro, Destro didn't have really any worries to take this guy out of the styrofoam tray.
08:52 I had a bigger worry getting Storm Shadow, because I didn't want anything like the sword or the quiver to break in the process.
08:58 Again, Diamond was really careful when it came to packing this guy, even more careful than the earlier looked at Destro.
09:05 Have you guys had the chance to get this one for yourself, or did you guys also get the chance to get the Legends in Three Dimensions Destro?
09:11 Let me know down below in the comments section.
09:13 A big thank you, once again, to the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this sample of not quite the newest,
09:17 but we still have a chance to look at the Legends in Three Dimensions GI Joe Storm Shadow 1/2 Scale Resin Bust.
09:24 If you guys did enjoy this video, why not throw it a like.
09:26 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing, and you certainly do want to stick around for more,
09:30 if you haven't already done so, make sure you hit that subscribe button down below.
09:34 And of course, you can also move on over to the bell notification.
09:36 Why do we have to do two steps?
09:38 The two steps are just to ensure that whenever there's new content going up, like I'm always posting new content, new reviews, new videos,
09:45 you want to be the one that's not missing on those kind of videos.
09:48 You want to be the one that's in the know, in the now, getting the content as it's going up.
09:52 Hitting the bell notification is your way of telling YouTube that you want to get those notifications,
09:56 that you want to know when this guy is posting new videos.
09:59 Also, if you guys wanted to go back, check out my earlier reviews, not only of statues,
10:04 but also things I've done for Diamond in the past, popping up in somewhat the adjacent corners.
10:09 One side will be Diamond, other side will be statues.
10:12 Feel free to give those playlists a check, if you guys have a little bit of time on your hands.
10:16 We may be wrapping up things right now for GI Joe, but we will be still looking at some more statue reviews,
10:21 courtesy of the folks over at Diamond Select, so make sure you're coming back here on a regular basis.
10:26 As always, guys, thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
