00:00 Well I guess I shouldn't be too surprised to find out that Cobra had some dealings with
00:04 Diamond.
00:05 Here's your look at the Diamond Select Legends in 3D G.I.
00:07 Joe Destro 1/2 Scale Resin Bust.
00:24 A brilliant businessman, weapons developer, CEO and engineer, Destro strictly adheres
00:29 to a quiet personal code that places war profit and the success of his own family above all
00:33 other things.
00:35 He excels at brokering deals, Kleine Steine negotiations and double-cross missions.
00:39 The refined and highly advanced weaponry produced by his company Mars Industries continues to
00:44 reshape modern warfare.
00:46 This approximately 10-inch tall 1/2 scale bust of Destro is based on his appearance
00:50 in G.I.
00:51 Joe the Real American Hero.
00:52 It features high level of detail in exacting paint applications and is limited to an edition
00:57 of only 1,000 pieces.
00:59 If he's already able to dominate the weather, then dominating your statue shelf would be
01:03 an easy task for noble Destro.
01:05 Just before of course we get a closer look at the Legends in 3D 1/2 Scale Resin Bust
01:09 of Destro, I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this sample
01:13 we could have a look at.
01:14 Good news for G.I.
01:15 Joe fans is that Destro is currently available either in specialty comic book stores locally,
01:20 or if you have no luck to find them in either, you can also order this guy online.
01:24 Destro is going to stand at about 9 1/2 inches in height, or the statue is about 24 1/2 cm
01:30 tall.
01:31 Well, I'm sure you know by now, to come and clean with these statues, you do get yourself
01:35 a certificate of authenticity, which I just have off to the side.
01:38 Actually, usually when I have these displayed on my shelf, if I have enough space available,
01:42 I like to usually put the certificate along with it.
01:45 I though made the grave mistake once of actually having one too close to sunlight, it was just
01:49 shining down in front of my window, and ended up fading my certificate.
01:54 The certificate is still fine, but unfortunately it's really hard to make out the number.
01:57 In this case, the number from Destro out of the limited run of 1,000 is 434.
02:03 Certificates aside, Destro here is presented with just the top half of his body.
02:06 As the case with Legends in Three Dimensions, these are busted characters, so what you're
02:10 only really getting is just a V-cut of both the shoulders and a little bit of the front
02:14 of the torso.
02:15 But for Destro, it works really well because he also has that trademark cobra collar behind
02:19 him.
02:21 Something I also thought was very clever, as they usually do with Legends in Three Dimensions,
02:24 is they find a way to integrate character traits into the actual display stand that
02:28 the bust sits on top of.
02:31 Destro is no different.
02:32 If you actually carefully look at the statue's base, if you had the original vintage toy,
02:36 which I think this is where they got the inspiration from, Destro had on his forearm a silver bracelet,
02:43 and then on that was actually missiles that he'd be able to fire off.
02:46 I wonder if they took some inspirational cues from that original vintage toy, because I
02:50 definitely get that vibe when I'm looking at the actual base.
02:53 All the nicely colored missiles, you get actually four of them painted here in red, and they're
02:57 very nicely sculpted.
02:59 On the back of it though, if we carefully spin this around, he seems to also have himself
03:03 a couple of grenades, although unlike the missiles that are painted in a flat red, these
03:07 are actually been gifted instead, a metallic red.
03:10 I do like the way that the back of the base is sort of curved in like this, treated as
03:14 well to a cobra logo.
03:15 It sort of in a way looks like a throne, either that Cobra Commander's been sitting in, or
03:20 has been dethroned by Serpentor.
03:23 Carefully picking up the statue and flipping it upside down, you can also see as well,
03:27 like with the certificate, you get the same number here that's been signed in out of the
03:31 limited run of 1,000 pieces.
03:33 As always the case as well, you get yourself a couple of rubberized feet, not only to prevent
03:37 the scratching on whatever surface you have the statue on, but also as well with just
03:40 the amount of lip that they give you, it prevents this number from wearing away.
03:44 If you ever decide down the road that you want to sell this, not that I would ever consider
03:48 selling Destro as cool as he actually looks.
03:50 If we look at the actual front of the figure's face, while he isn't being gifted in chrome,
03:56 which is one thing I really kind of wish it could have had, I don't know how difficult
03:59 it would have been to chrome a resin.
04:01 Resin would be a little bit harder of a material to do.
04:03 They've done at least the next best thing, as they painted Destro in this exquisite metallic
04:07 silver.
04:09 Some of the details like for his furrowed brow, the areas around his nose, for example,
04:13 have all been additionally added with a little bit of a darker wash to bring out some of
04:16 those details.
04:17 And like both in the cartoon, the comic, and everything that's attached to Destro, he normally
04:21 would have large black eyes and little green pupils.
04:25 They aren't so little either.
04:26 I mean, they're actually a little bit larger than I was expecting.
04:29 I couldn't help but also notice too that when you're looking at Destro, his one eye, this
04:33 eye, is looking straight at you, but kind of like Eric Draven Legends in three dimensions
04:36 we looked at before, one eye is kind of wandering off to the corner.
04:41 It isn't as jarring perhaps that the crow one that we looked at before, and especially
04:44 if you're going to be spinning the statue sideways, then it looks like he's sort of
04:47 giving you a side eye.
04:49 It's a really nice looking head sculpt though.
04:51 It's bolted down below, so of course it's part of his head.
04:54 And then down below, he also has himself that little ruby stone necklace.
04:58 I do like that they've used translucent, and I would imagine it's still resin, but they've
05:02 done it in translucent red, and they've actually given him a real working chain.
05:06 This is permanently attached, but you want to be careful that you don't snag this moving
05:08 this around, and definitely don't want to cause any damage to the chain, whether it's
05:12 real metal or not.
05:13 Of course, you do have the collar there on the back.
05:15 The thing I really like about the collar though, is it sort of serves a parallel line to the
05:20 way they've cut off the shoulders.
05:22 Again with the Legends, you're only getting the bust, but the bust for Destro, you have
05:25 again like that V cut, but again, I love the way that the collar is sort of parallel to
05:29 that.
05:30 It really gives you a nice form when you're looking at it from the front.
05:32 Nice paint by the way they've done the lower torso, kind of giving him kind of more of
05:36 an off yellowish color, somewhat of a beige, and then they've also added slightly warmer
05:41 tone to that as well, just to accent some of the musculature in the middle of his chest.
05:45 If we spin the statue around, there's not as much going on from the back.
05:49 Obviously, they still took the time to add nice wrinkles, again the muscles on the back
05:53 of his body, and even sculpted in the seam line for the back of his collar.
05:57 If you look really closely too, even stopping, they took the time to add a stitch line all
06:02 the way around the outer band of it.
06:04 So even though he is really more rooted in the comics, they added still a sense of realism
06:08 to the way that his outfit would actually have been sewn together.
06:11 Yeah, it's a nice looking Destro.
06:14 Again, I have to wonder, would it have been possible that they could have done this in
06:18 chrome?
06:19 Could they have been an option where I don't know enough about resin to know, can you go
06:23 in there and chrome resin?
06:25 I would imagine one of the risks that would be with chroming something that it would probably
06:28 start the flake.
06:29 If it was banged, if it got scuffed up at all, maybe even painting it in silver was
06:34 the better bet to go with.
06:35 The silver is still nicely done, and I think as a whole, the colors are matching that to
06:39 what we would expect to see Destro in the cartoon.
06:41 I love again, like that little nod that they added down below here, which again, was it
06:45 a reference to the original toy?
06:46 I really hope it was, because that was clever on Diamond's part to incorporate those little
06:50 arm band missiles that he has on his forearms.
06:53 It's a really nice looking statue.
06:55 It's not the only in fact, Legends in Three Dimensions that Diamond has tackled when it
06:59 comes to the GI Joe franchise.
07:01 They have also released a Storm Shadow, and I think they've also released a Visor Snake
07:05 Eyes.
07:06 Definitely though, if basing it from what we've only seen alone here with Destro, if
07:10 it's on the same level of sculpting and paint, as a GI Joe fan, you definitely would want
07:14 to pick these up.
07:15 Prior to Diamond actually providing this sample of Destro, I had actually checked the two
07:19 of my local comic book store in the hopes that I would find the Legends in Three Dimensions
07:23 Destro, not just to review them, but also for my personal collection, being a big GI
07:27 Joe fan myself.
07:28 In both the cases, it yielded the exact same results.
07:32 Going and asking the person that worked there, I said, "Hey, do you have the Legends in Three
07:34 Dimensions Destro?"
07:36 And honestly, both of their answers were exactly the same, and almost verbatim, "No, we don't
07:40 have them."
07:41 Now, "No, we don't have them" may have mean that we either had ordered them at one point
07:45 and he had sold out, or we just never ordered them, with only just getting, "No, we don't
07:49 have them."
07:50 I had no idea if they ever stocked them in the first place.
07:53 That's two of the stores.
07:54 Had I gone to the other store that I never go to, the answer would have even been briefer
07:58 from the guy that would have given it.
07:59 He would have just said, "Nah."
08:02 Honestly, he would have just said, "Nah."
08:05 Good news though, is if you are a GI Joe fan who would like to get your hands on the Destro
08:08 Legends in Three Dimensions statue, you don't have to go to a store where the guy just says,
08:12 "Nah."
08:13 What you can do though instead, because of the time this guy's been around for, he has
08:16 gone on sale with a couple of the online sites.
08:20 Most of the time, they have sold them at $179.99, if you can still find this guy in stock.
08:24 He's actually selling either at $125 to $130, so they have marked him down.
08:29 Again, if you guys are interested, he is resin, so that's one of the reasons why he's going
08:32 to be a little bit more.
08:33 But again, if you are a big GI Joe fan, definitely worth picking up.
08:37 Big thank you once again to the folks over at Diamond Select that had I known, I probably
08:41 would have saved myself the time of going to a local comic book store, but were nice
08:45 enough to again, provide the sample, the Legends in Three Dimensions Destro, that we had the
08:49 chance to have a look at this review.
08:51 Have you guys already picked up this one for yourself?
08:53 Or have you picked up any of the other GI Joe Legends in 3D statues?
08:57 Let me know down below.
08:58 If you guys in the meantime did enjoy this video, I want to throw it a like.
09:01 If you guys are loving the content, and would like to certainly stick around for more, hit
09:05 that subscribe button down below, turn on the bell notification, and of course the most
09:09 important thing, knowing is half the battle, know that you have to come back here on a
09:12 regular basis, because there's always new content coming your way.
09:15 In the meantime though, you want a little more content?
09:18 Okay, popping up in one corner will be a statue review playlist, on the other corner, on the
09:23 adjacent end of things, will be all the reviews I've done for Diamond.
09:27 So if you have a little bit of time on your hands, not that I'm going to push you in the
09:30 direction of a playlist, but feel free to give those playlists a gander.
09:34 Definitely going to be having some more statue reviews coming your way in the pipeline, so
09:36 of course, keeping your peepers peeled, as always guys, thanks for watching, see you
09:40 guys next time.
