00:00 Hello and welcome to our latest guide to 5 things to do and as we continue to hurtle
00:10 through September at the speed of sound, it's important to remember to relax, to take a
00:14 break and enjoy yourself, perhaps with one of these 5 things happening next week.
00:20 We start gently with some calming poetry because the weekend of the 22nd to the 24th sees the
00:25 return of the Morecambe Poetry Festival. A host of world-class names have been announced
00:30 for the festival which is back for a second year after winning plaudits from poets and
00:34 audiences alike for its inaugural event. Taking place at Morecambe's Winter Gardens across
00:39 three days, the festival features a packed bill of acclaimed poets including Carol Ann
00:44 Duffy, Jackie Kay, Brian Bilston, Roger McGough, Henry Normal and Attila the Stockbroker.
00:51 This year the festival is working with poetry organisation Big White Shed to offer poetry
00:56 performance workshops in the local community in the run-up to the event and they promise
01:00 the most exciting vibrant spoken word being produced today in the UK. Weekend tickets
01:06 offer access to all shows with standard seating priced at £65 plus booking fees and gold
01:12 passes offer priority seating priced at £75.
01:17 Now then, all aboard for a wee tipple on a tram, partnering with local brewery West Coast
01:21 Rock to create a unique ale experience you'll only get in Blackpool. Take a 60 minute tour
01:26 on a heritage tram while enjoying two bottles of locally brewed craft ale. You'll take a
01:31 trip along Blackpool's coastline from North Pier to Little Bisbam with your chilled craft
01:35 ale in hand. From there you'll travel all the way south to the Pleasure Beach before
01:39 returning to North Pier. When booking your tour you can opt in to visit the West Coast
01:44 Rock Brewery after your tram ride for an exclusive look behind the scenes at how the ale you
01:48 just drank is made. It's on the 23rd of September and it'll cost you £12.
01:55 We stay in Blackpool now because on Saturday, September 23rd it will be exactly 50 years
01:59 since Wigan Casino opened their doors and in that time has touched the lives of hundreds
02:04 of thousands of Northern Soul fans. The Winter Gardens in Blackpool are celebrating this
02:08 golden anniversary of these amazing sessions with a unique Wigan Casino 50th anniversary
02:13 weekender over three days. Lined up are many of the original DJs to appear at the weekender
02:19 from both Wigan Casino and its sister venue, the much loved Oldies Room, Mr M's. You can
02:24 dance the night away from the 22nd to the 24th of September and weekend tickets are
02:28 priced at £77.40.
02:32 Now also on Saturday 23rd is Preston Pride. Year on year this event delivers an inclusive
02:37 celebration which promotes cohesion and celebrates diversity. Established in 2012 this year will
02:43 mark the 10th annual Preston Pride event. The festival will see a variety of music,
02:48 market stalls, family friendly fun activities and a community expo area all based around
02:53 the flag market in the city.
02:56 Lastly we turn to comedy as Mark Watson brings his one man show to the Atkinson Theatre in
03:01 Southport. Mark Watson's 12 year old son has just got a phone and his 70 year old dad has
03:06 been through the most frightening experience of his life. Both a dad and a kid himself
03:10 around the midpoint of his life the Taskmaster star, multiple award winner, now also famous
03:15 for one third of YouTube, cult sensation No More Jockeys returns. He'll consider the search
03:21 for meaning that we're all on, with or without Google. There'll be a lot of jokes and he
03:25 promises a show that's very different every night. He's on the 22nd of September and tickets
03:31 are priced at £20.
03:32 There you are then, you just need to take your pick out of that little lot and go and
03:36 enjoy yourselves.
03:37 Join me next time for another Five Things To Do but until then have a fantastic week
03:41 and I'll see you next time.
