00:15 Movement ticket, which has been suspended by the Citizens' Registry.
00:22 Storm Hidalgo became the fourth hurricane of the current season as it moves away from
00:27 Cuba, leaving rains in the west of the country.
00:34 And the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has denounced new destabilization attempts of
00:38 the United States, Japan and South Korea in the region.
00:47 From the headquarters of TeleSut English in Havana, Cuba, this is From the South.
00:51 I'm your anchor, Gladys Quesada.
00:53 Let's begin with the news.
01:07 In Guatemala, the highest electoral body confirmed the electoral triumph of the Arevalo Herrera
01:12 presidential formula for the Semilla Movement.
01:15 The electoral court's announcement came only minutes after the Citizens' Registry ruled
01:19 the provisional suspension of the Semilla Movement over an alleged case of forged signatures
01:25 that dates back to 2018.
01:27 For his part, the president-elect, Bernardo Arevalo, during a press conference stated
01:32 they would appeal the annulment while underscoring the importance of the announcement made by
01:37 the electoral top court, which ratifies his win in the elections and respects the sovereign
01:42 decision of the Guatemalan people.
01:44 The Semilla Movement obtained over 60% of the votes in the second round of the presidential
01:50 elections, surpassing Yunus Sandra Torres, who obtained just over 39% of the ballots.
02:00 The results of the second round of elections confirmed the resounding and sovereign decision
02:05 of the people of Guatemala, who have entrusted Karine Herrera and me, Bernardo Arevalo, with
02:11 the leadership of the country.
02:14 As of this moment, nothing can legally prevent me from taking office on January 14, 2024,
02:21 as established in the Constitution.
02:24 On Monday, Ecuador's National Electoral Council has decided to reform the regulations and
02:29 authorize in-person voting.
02:31 The electoral body reformed the regulations of the extraordinary presidential and legislative
02:36 elections in view of the October 15 runoff.
02:39 In this way, Ecuadorians living abroad will vote in person both in the second round of
02:44 the presidential and legislative elections.
02:47 After the problems faced with the electronic vote attributed by the authorities to alleged
02:51 attacks, the measure comes in response to the claims of the Ecuadorian diaspora regarding
02:56 the right to vote for a new president and lawmakers.
03:04 Colombian cargo transporters have lifted their demonstrations and temporarily suspended calls
03:09 for future protests after a dialogue with representatives of the national executive
03:14 branch.
03:15 The Vice Minister of Transport, Eduardo HenrĂquez, and the head of transport and transit portfolio,
03:20 Alejandro Zambrano, met with five representatives of the Cargo Transport Union and defined a
03:26 roadmap.
03:27 The Vice Minister reported that the sector's requests were heard and agreements were reached
03:32 on several of the problems faced by the sector.
03:35 The workers held protests nationwide on Monday, especially in rejection of the continuous
03:39 fuel increases.
03:45 The Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the Argentinian Economy Minister,
03:50 Sergio Maza, met to deepen cooperation ties.
03:54 Da Silva and Maza addressed issues on the bilateral agenda, such as using the Chinese
03:58 currency yuan in their trade exchanges, the opening of agricultural markets, the Biden
04:03 process for the second section of the President's Nestor Kirchner gas pipeline, and Argentina's
04:09 BRICS membership.
04:10 The Argentinian Minister also met with his Brazilian counterpart, Fernando Hudad, with
04:15 whom he discussed a payment mechanism worth $600 million for bilateral trade.
04:26 Colombian President Gustavo Pedro met on Monday with his Costa Rican counterpart, Rodrigo
04:30 Chávez, and with the head of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San José, the capital
04:35 of Costa Rica.
04:37 The meetings took place during a two-day visit by the Colombian President to the Central
04:41 American nation, following an invitation by his Costa Rican counterpart, Rodrigo Chávez.
04:47 The leaders of the two nations agreed to work together to defend their coffee in the world
04:52 market.
04:53 According to Gustavo Pedro, the agreement seeks to obtain greater income for an emblematic
04:57 product of both countries, at a time when the international price of the grain and the
05:02 exports of both nations are falling.
05:04 The presidents also discussed tourism, security and migration issues, which will be addressed
05:09 later in the working commissions headed by the foreign ministers of both countries.
05:15 We discussed very, very strategic matters, such as climate change, peace for the region,
05:35 and taking a huge amount of resources away from the bad people.
05:42 We have discussed even more complex issues, like migration, a new and growing phenomenon
05:49 on which we have to build a common Latin American policy.
05:54 And the government of Mexico supports Haiti in the face of the recent Colorado break on
05:59 the Caribbean nation, and has sent an air force plane with supplies and assistance to
06:04 that country.
06:05 The Mexican delegation was received in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, by the Minister of Foreign
06:10 Affairs and Worship, Jean-Victor Genou, and the Mexican Ambassador, Daniel Camaravalos.
06:16 The mission will deliver 2.25 thousand kilos of calcium hypochlorite, enough to make drinkable
06:23 867,780,000 liters of water.
06:28 Upon its return, the Mexican air force aircraft will transport 110 members of the Haitian
06:33 armed forces to the North American nation to receive training and instruction in drone
06:51 operations.
07:03 And in a new episode of Venezuela on the Move, our colleagues Adriana Sibori and Jesus Romero
07:09 take us to another remote spot in the Venezuelan geography, El Jarrillo in Miranda State.
07:15 There, and this time in the slump of the mountains, local farmers look for new sustainable ways
07:20 to ensure the production, while honoring their traditions and the heritage.
07:25 This is the Venezuela that resists and also grows.
07:29 Let's see.
07:30 The mountain landscape opens and gives way to the fog.
07:35 El Jarrillo is one of the villages in the area that stands out from the heights, and
07:40 the climate does not exceed 18 degrees.
07:45 Jose Adrián was 100% dedicated to flowers, but he was seduced by a new love.
07:52 I am extremely in love with this type of cultivation.
07:57 Mexican coffee is so incredible that every day you find something different, a new flavor,
08:02 a new texture, a new body, and the sweetness of this coffee.
08:06 These are specialty coffee beans.
08:08 The red beans are sweeter than the yellow ones.
08:13 He does all the work himself in the fields, where he spends hours collecting, then he
08:18 cleans the harvest beans to finally roast them.
08:21 This coffee has won the 8th place in international events and he sells it to local inhabitants.
08:27 I will not leave Venezuela even if they take me tied up.
08:30 The neighbor is someone who won't leave either.
08:33 We follow his steps to his farm, where he was also a floriculturist.
08:37 However, due to the difficult economic situation, he was forced to change his line of farming.
08:44 My grandparents were farmers, and by inheritance my parents were farmers as well.
08:50 The farm is a family farm.
08:52 My wife and my daughter help me, but we also have 8 other people who collaborate in the
08:58 cleaning work.
09:01 They are looking for excellence, and one of the vegetables they collect is Romanesco broccoli,
09:06 which is a mix with cauliflower and the interesting thing is that according to experts, they have
09:11 perfect geometry, and they have repeated designs in different sizes.
09:16 These lands are fertile all year long.
09:20 Here you can grow anything you plant.
09:23 El Jarillo is a beautiful place with a wonderful climate.
09:27 This soil is excellent to work with.
09:31 This family farm has been growing vegetables and fruits for 30 years, not only outdoors
09:36 like the typical beaches of the region, but also in the greenhouse where they can control
09:40 the climate.
09:41 There you can see strawberries or tomatoes.
09:44 They have their own irrigation system.
09:47 The village was founded by Germans about 133 years ago, but is now inhabited by Venezuelans.
09:55 There are 23 families in the region dedicated to agriculture.

10:33 Welcome back.
10:48 On Tuesday, Hurricane Idalia became the fourth hurricane of the current season as it moves
10:52 away from Cuba, leaving rains in the west of the country.
10:56 Cuban authorities decreed cyclone alarm phase for the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisia
11:01 and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, and the alert phase for the provinces
11:06 of Havana and Mayabeque as the storm neared the Cape San Antonio, the western most point
11:12 of the island.
11:13 According to the Meteorological Institute, Tropical Storm Idalia became a Category 1
11:19 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h.
11:23 As it continues to move away from Cuba, the probability of heavy rains and intense downpours
11:28 will remain high in the western region.
11:30 Defeating bands of this tropical organism may also cause rains in the central region.
11:39 Poland and the Baltic States, members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, warned
11:44 that they will close their borders with Belarus in the event of any military incident or a
11:48 massive migration push by Minsk.
11:51 The governments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia argued that the warnings were
11:56 due to growing tensions at NATO and European Union borders with Belarus with alleged troops
12:01 which they claim are diverting African and Middle Eastern migrants to Europe despite
12:06 the established barriers.
12:08 The nations demanded that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expel the Wagner mercenaries
12:13 and immigrants from his territory as well as from the border areas.
12:17 The Polish Interior Minister, Mariusz Kaminski, acknowledged that closing all borders with
12:23 Belarus will have negative consequences though.
12:30 On the other hand, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said that if the Lithuanian, Latvian
12:35 and Polish authorities close their borders with Belarus, they will only harm themselves
12:39 and their citizens.
12:41 The head of state stressed that Belarus is a peaceful country and has no pretensions
12:46 towards its western neighbours, reiterating that Belarus does not need Polish, Lithuanian
12:51 or Latvian lands as his country does not work through any of them.
12:59 French President Emmanuel Macron informed that he as ambassador will remain in Niger
13:03 despite the expiration of the interim government's ultimatum.
13:07 The French head of state insisted that Paris condemns the coup and will not change its
13:11 position and asserted that it will continue its full support to President Mohamed Bassem.
13:17 Macron also said that the French ambassador did not heed the ultimatum as he considers
13:21 that the order did not come from legitimate authorities.
13:25 The Nigerian Foreign Ministry issued on Friday a 48-hour deadline for Sylvain Hiet to leave
13:31 the African country after he refused to meet with the new NME leaders.
13:40 We have to be clear, coherent, consistent, otherwise who will listen to us, in which
13:46 African capitals, will they be able to say that we have a policy of partnership with
13:51 the leader if when something like this happens we cannot support him.
13:55 So I think our policy is the right one.
13:57 It is based on the courage of President Bassem and the commitment of our diplomats and our
14:03 ambassador on the ground, who stand firm despite the pressure.
14:08 And the French president also reminded that his country does not recognise or support
14:12 coup-born governments under any circumstances.
14:16 Our policy is simple.
14:18 We do not recognise the budget.
14:21 We support a president who has not resigned, to whom we remain committed, and we support
14:27 the diplomatic actions, and if decided, the military actions of ECOWAS, in a partnership
14:33 approach which is the one I presented last February.
14:37 India's government reported that trade between New Delhi and Moscow grew by 190% in the first
14:43 half of 2023.
14:45 According to New Delhi's Ministry of Trade and Industry, the growth reached $33.5 billion
14:51 between January and July this year.
14:54 During the period, imports of Russian products in India reached $35.5 billion, three times
15:00 more than in the first half of 2022.
15:02 Meanwhile, the supply of crude oil and oil derivatives, the main item of these imports,
15:08 multiplied 4.4 times, reaching $25.2 billion.
15:13 Meanwhile, Indian exports to Russia increased by 70% to $1.9 billion.
15:19 Pharmaceuticals continue to be the most important item, with a sales growth of 4.5% to $84 million.

16:14 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has denounced that the actions of the United States, Japan
16:19 and South Korea are destabilizing the peninsula and are fueling a possible nuclear conflict
16:24 in the region.
16:25 During his remedy held at the Navy Command, the President denounced the reckless moves
16:30 announced by the heads of Washington, Seoul and Tokyo Commands, which he qualified as
16:35 gangs.
16:36 In recent meetings, according to North Korean reports, the three countries announced joint
16:41 and periodic military maneuvers under different names.
16:44 Pyongyang assures that these actions have turned the area into the world's largest concentration
16:49 point of war material, forcing the North's army to equip itself with new weapons.
16:59 The third China-Africa Peace and Security Forum was held on Tuesday in Beijing, with
17:04 the participation of at least 50 delegates from member countries of the African Union.
17:09 Chinese Defense Minister Li Xianfu opened a meeting with the speech in which he called
17:14 for comprehensive cooperation that contributes to promoting non-confrontational dialogue.
17:20 This event, which aims to improve communications in the security and defense sector, seeks
17:25 to play a positive role in community building with a shared future in the new era and reiterates
17:31 China's commitment to African countries and the global and regional interests of peace
17:36 and stability.
17:39 Libya's unity government temporarily suspended its top diplomat, Nasrallah Mangush, after
17:46 her unexpected meeting with her Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen.
17:50 The High Council of State described the meeting as an offense to the rich history of struggle
17:55 by the Libyan people in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
17:59 The government body urged all the competent authorities to take the necessary measures
18:03 and responsibility.
18:05 In the decision, the government authorities announced the launching of an administrative
18:09 investigation to be carried out by a commission presided over by the Minister of Justice.
18:14 The meeting between Mangush and Cohen also sparked social protests in several cities
18:19 against the top diplomat's action.
18:27 In this context, on Monday, the Libyan Prime Minister visited the Palestinian Embassy in
18:31 the capital Tripoli to affirm his country's continued support to the Palestinian cause.
18:36 The visit came after De Beia suspended Foreign Minister Nasrallah Mangush and referred her
18:40 for an investigation over a meeting last week with her Israeli counterpart in Italy.
18:46 Mangush fled the country a day after Israel revealed the visit, news that prompted scattered
18:51 street protests in the chaos-stricken North African nation.
18:55 During his meeting with Palestinian Ambassador Mohamed Rahal, De Beia affirmed his country's
19:00 support of Palestinians and that his previous foreign minister does not represent the government's
19:06 position.
19:10 And on Tuesday, the General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, a chairman of Sudan's ruling Sovereign Council,
19:16 travelled to Egypt where he met with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
19:20 The visit is the first trip abroad since the conflict broke out between the army faction
19:24 Hileids and the rapid support forces under Mohamed Hamdan Diaglo.
19:29 Burhan informed about his trip on Monday in the coastal city of Port Sudan, where he affirmed
19:35 that a military operation in which the three forces took part allows him to leave the country
19:40 safely.
19:41 At the announcement of his departure, he reiterated that he will not make pacts with those he
19:46 considers have betrayed the Sudanese people.
19:54 And we have come to the end of this news brief.
