00:57Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
01:01Havana, Cuba.
01:02We begin with the news.
01:15In Venezuela, as part of his electoral campaign, the presidential candidate of the great patriotic
01:20Paul Nicolás Maduro was received by the people of the state of Zulia to accompany his candidacy
01:25for the elections of July 28th.
01:27With a large mobilization, the inhabitants of the municipality of Paraguay Poa expressed
01:32their support for the candidacy of the current Venezuelan president in the fight against
01:37the blockades imposed by the United States and its European allies.
01:40The candidates for the great patriotic Paul thanked the people for their support to defeat
01:45the actions of the extreme right and promised to continue working for the welfare of the
01:50nation.
01:51Maduro also recalled the historic battle of the indigenous communities to defend their
01:55lands from the genocidal European colonialism of 500 years ago when they arrived to the
02:01Venezuelan territory.
02:04500 years ago, colonialism came to all of America.
02:21And in this peninsula and in these territories, the people resisted the genocidal colonialism
02:26of Europe.
02:34They could not eliminate the Guaya culture, nor the ANU.
02:44I can say to the world that these million and a half white and these thousands of ANU
02:48who preserved their lands, their language.
02:56Their culture, their identity, their spirituality are an example for all of America of how a
03:07brave people resisted and was capable of transcending history.
03:13On the other hand, the presidential candidate for the great patriotic Paul reiterated that
03:17the historic violence perpetrated by the European colonialism 500 years ago cannot go back to
03:23the Venezuela of the 21st century.
03:29We must feel proud of the history we have lived.
03:31We must feel proud of our ancestors, because that gives U.S. sense of belonging, roots,
03:41spirit, strength.
03:43What did colonialism do when it arrived in America?
03:51There were 100 million men and women in all the peoples from north to south.
04:01In 50 years, they exterminated 80 million and then enslaved those who survived.
04:09At the end of his electoral campaign, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, led
04:13the inauguration of the Paraguay-Pua Alcoduct Network and Pumping Station, located in the
04:18indigenous Bolivarian municipality of Guajira, in the state of Zulia.
04:22The president affirmed that despite the sanctions imposed by the United States and its European
04:27allies, the potable water restoration project carried out by the revolution will be functional
04:33in the next 15 years.
04:35Maduro also called on the Venezuelan people to vote in the presidential elections of next
04:39July 28th to continue strengthening the country's basic services, which the ultra-right wing
04:45plans to privatize if it comes to power.
04:52For the upcoming presidential elections on July 28th, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela
04:57is using a new strategy to bring out the vote called 1 plus 10 plus 7.
05:03Let's see more details in the following report by our special envoy, Brian Meyer.
05:09With less than two weeks left before Venezuela's presidential elections, supporters of all
05:13ten candidates are working hard to bring out the vote.
05:17The governing Socialist Unity Party has a long history of popular mobilization, but
05:22this year they're using a new strategy to bring out the vote for incumbent president
05:26Nicolás Maduro, called 1 times 10 times 7.
05:32Every one of us is capable of mobilizing ten people and convincing them to find seven more.
05:40And during these days, we have to do it in a way that is objective, clear, precise and
05:45disciplined.
05:50We have to be efficient and effective.
05:54Using an old tactic of asking every party member to convince ten people to vote for
05:58him as a starting point, President Maduro is asking them to ask each person they convince
06:03to vote for him to try to convince seven more.
06:07The number 70, which is the potential number of votes each person can mobilize using the
06:11strategy, is symbolically important.
06:15If former President Hugo Chávez were alive today, he would celebrate his 70th birthday
06:20on election day.
06:23I am raising people's consciousness, including my family, my children, my nephews and my
06:32mom, by reminding them what we have achieved and showing them and explaining things that
06:40the government is doing now, not by making up stories, but by telling the truth.
06:50How well is this new 1 times 10 times 7 strategy going to work?
06:55The world will find out on July 28th, when millions of Venezuelans go to the polls.
07:00Brian Meir, tell us, sir.
07:02Caracas.
07:03In Peru, social organizations call the general strike and marches to demand the resignation
07:09of Dina Boluarte and the dissolution of Parliament.
07:11During the day, the General Confederation of Peruvian Workers, together with trade and
07:16political unions, mobilized from Plaza Dos de Mayo in Lima.
07:21The General Secretary of the Confederation explained that they are also carrying out
07:25a national popular civic strike to defend the rights of the citizens and the popular
07:30classes.
07:31Likewise, the National Human Rights Coordinator joined the movement as an act of protest against
07:36what she described as a corrupt authoritarian and anti-rights coalition of the government
07:41and Congress.
07:51In Nicaragua, thousands of citizens celebrated the 45th anniversary of the triumph of the
07:56Sandinista people's revolution.
07:58The Nicaraguan people commemorated the struggle against the Somoza regime with street decorations.
08:04In this sense, citizens mobilized from the early morning of this Friday through Bolívar
08:08Avenue to Chávez, with the purpose of witnessing the fireworks in commemoration of the date
08:13from the Hugo Chávez traffic circle, while the carriers conducted caravans along the
08:19main roads of the capital.
08:21In this context, the revolutionary triumph in Nicaragua put an end to the Somozista dictatorship,
08:26which remained in power for 45 years under the tutelage of the United States.

08:55In Cuba, the third ordinary legislative session of the National Assembly of People's Power
09:00continues on Friday in Havana as part of its tenth legislature.
09:04With the presence of the first Secretary of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel
09:08Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the Assembly approved the Law of Administrative Procedure, the Law
09:14of Migration and the Law of the System of Honorary Titles and Decorations of the Republic
09:19of Cuba.
09:20According to the Minister of Justice, Óscar Silveira, the Law of Administrative Procedure
09:26constitutes a significant advance in the regulation of administrative law in the country, having
09:31as its premise the absolute defense of the rights of Cuban citizens.
09:41The National Assembly, some in synthesis of the country that we are, voted unanimously
09:46almost all its agreements.
09:48That provokes not a few criticisms from those who do not know that behind that agreement
09:52there are long and intense days of work, debate and search for consensus, based on the collective
10:00interests.
10:01And I think it is worth saying it.
10:03Cuba is not led by one person, not even by a small group of people.
10:07This is the rare dictatorship that the enemies of the revolution will never be able to understand.
10:15The dictatorship of the workers, the dictatorship of the people that those of U.S. gathered
10:20here represent, by popular election.
10:23That is why what we discuss here is a guide.
10:25And what we approve is law.
10:27On Thursday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that a 7.3 magnitude tremor
10:47shook the mining region of Antofagasta, in northern Chile, with no reports of casualties
10:52or material damage.
10:54According to the EMCS, the seism occurred at a depth of 128 km and it was felt in regions
11:01of Bolivia, Peru and Argentina.
11:03However, the probability of damage in Chile is low.
11:07Although no immediate damage was reported, the National Disaster Prevention and Response
11:11Service stated that it was investigating possible damage to people, disruption of basic services
11:17or infrastructure resulting from this earthquake.
11:24In Ecuador, a forest fire affected 120 hectares in the city of Giron and Santisabel, in the
11:30southeast of the jurisdiction, due to the high levels of heat registered in the area.
11:35The authorities at the site activated an emergency operations center to address the damage, while
11:41the fire brigades of the three cities are trying to control the fire.
11:45The Secretariat of Risk Management informed that so far no houses have been affected,
11:49but warned that the fire is still active.
11:53The governmental entity detailed that during this season, the low humidity level in the
11:57atmosphere and the scarce cloudiness, as well as the increase in wind speed and ultraviolet
12:02radiation, favor the creation of forest fires.
12:09The Brazilian government reported that 96% of the fires in the Pantanal Biome have been
12:14controlled or extinguished, but control teams are still mobilizing the area.
12:18The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change reported that 56% of the fires have been extinguished,
12:25while the remaining 40% are in the process of being controlled and 4% are still being
12:30fought.
12:31In this sense, the entity warned about the forecast of a heat wave with low humidity
12:36starting next weekend, increasing the risk of new fires.
12:49In China, floods caused by rains leave at least 5 people dead and 8 missing in the center
12:54of the country.
12:55In Baoji City, Shanxi Province, the rains caused floods, landslides, damage to infrastructure,
13:01among other effects.
13:02Rural roads, as well as 21 bridges, were affected by flooding in several localities.
13:07Rescue teams evacuated more than 7,800 people and managed to restore traffic, communications
13:13and power supply.
13:19The U.S. multinational technology corporation Microsoft presented a massive failure which
13:27caused a worldwide computer system crash.
13:30Several airports, media outlets, banks and hospitals around the world have had to interrupt
13:35their operations as the company assured that some systems could continue to experience
13:40problems.
13:41The flaw was caused by a bug in the CrowdStrike security system update, which caused a critical
13:47error in the operation of the Windows operating system.
13:58The failure generated delays in scheduled flights of several airlines, with incidents
14:02in Australia, Hong Kong, India and Europe.
14:05Likewise, in the United States, all flights of several major airlines were affected due
14:09to the technical problem.
14:11From Spanish airports, an air navigation warned that an incident in the computer system was
14:16producing alterations in the systems and in the airports of the network in the whole
14:20Iberian country.
14:22Gradually, the companies reported that they have been recovering some of their systems.

15:14Welcome back from the South.
15:16In the Netherlands, the International Court of Justice has ruled by 14 votes to 1 that
15:20Israel must immediately cease all new settlements activities and evacuate all settlers from
15:25the occupied Palestinian territories.
15:27Through a public session, the deliberation began after hearing the arguments of the Palestinian
15:32side and 49 member states of the United Nations organization.
15:37In turn, the ICJ found that Israel's legislation and measures constitute a violation of the
15:42International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and
15:47Upper Hate.
15:48The court ruled that all countries should stop recognizing Israel's illegal presence
15:52in occupied Palestinian territories and the regime must provide compensation for damages
15:57to all affected persons in the region.
16:04On Thursday, in Israel, hundreds of citizens marched in Jerusalem to demand measures from
16:09Benjamin Netanyahu's government to warranty the end of the offensive in the Gaza Strip
16:13and the return of Israeli prisoners.
16:16Demonstrations took place in the vicinity of the residence of the Israeli Prime Minister,
16:20whom protesters accused of being the main responsible for the continuation of the conflict
16:26in Gaza.
16:27This way, demonstrators demand that Netanyahu reaches an agreement with the Palestinian
16:31resistance movement Hamas for the liberation of Israelis held in Palestinian territories.
16:37This comes after the head of government provoked the anger of the citizens by stating that
16:42the hostages are suffering but not dying.
16:47Personally, I am protesting to end this war, to end the suffering of our soldiers and to
17:01end the suffering of the Gazan people.
17:04A new briefing claims the Israeli genocidal regime cut down the water supply of the Gaza
17:09Strip by 94%, using water as an everlasting weapon of war against the Palestinian population.
17:16According to the Oxfam non-governmental organization, the Gazan population currently receives less
17:21than 5 milliliters per person per day, a little less than a third of the minimum recommended
17:28in emergency situations.
17:30Israel caused the destruction of Gaza's water and sanitation infrastructure, reinforcing
17:34the United Nations and other human rights organizations' denouncement of the use of
17:39water as a war weapon against Palestinians by the Zionist regime.
17:47In Kenya, the High Court overturned the ban on protests in and around the Nairobi financial
17:53district, a decision taken previously by the country's acting inspector general.
17:57The police order to ban the demonstrations was taken under the pretext of warrantying
18:02public security after alleged attempts of criminal attacks.
18:06The National Human Rights Commission detailed in a report that after days of protests, at
18:10least 53 people died, another 575 were injured and more than 1,200 were detained.
18:18President William Ruto, after the pressure of the protests against his government, validated
18:22the arguments of the demonstrators and invited them to hold a dialogue.
18:31The Nigerian army neutralized terrorist groups in the Tiyaberi region in the northwest of
18:36the country.
18:37The Minister of Defense stated that they captured another 30 members of the armed groups in
18:42three regions bordering Mali and Burkina Faso.
18:45The security department stated that they increased the extension of the army deployment in this
18:50border zone due to the recent escapes from the maximum security prison of Koto Kale,
18:56which caused civilian deaths in Tiyaberi.
19:00They stressed that most of the escaped prisoners are members of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda
19:05and the self-proclaimed Islamic State, representing a threat against military personnel and the
19:11civilian population.
19:17In India, a passenger train derailed nearby the Gonda town, triggering at least two deaths
19:23and some 31 injured.
19:25The incident occurred as the train was covering the route between the cities of Dibrugarh
19:29and Chandigarh in northern India.
19:32In the aftermath of the accident, the Ministry of Railways ordered to pursue a high-level
19:37inquiry into its causes and indicated that the families of the final victims and the
19:42injured will receive compensation.
19:44The passengers who were unharmed were transferred by bus to the nearest town from where a special
19:51train was waiting to take them to their original destination.
