00:00Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved for the 44th time an extension of the exception
00:15regime to combat criminal group remnants.
00:22In South Korea, Seoul Western District Court rules to overturn arrest warrant for impeach
00:26president Jun Suk-yeo.
00:31And in Palestine, Israeli occupation forces fiercely intensified their attacks on Gaza
00:35amidst truce talks.
00:42Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios in Havana,
00:47Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:49The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved for the 34th time an extension of the exception
00:53regime to combat criminal group remnants.
00:55The measure went into effect on March 27, 2022, and since that date, according to the
01:01authorities, more than 83,900 captures have been reported.
01:06Government legislators, including the president of the body Ernesto Castro, have defended
01:10the application of the measure, assuring a reduction in the homicide rate.
01:14However, human rights organizations in the country, in addition to reporting the abuses
01:17of power protected by the regime, confirmed more than 300 deaths of those deprived of
01:22liberty, many of whom were innocent.
01:29And in Ecuador, on Sunday night, the National Service of Integral Attention for Adults Deprived
01:33of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders informed that former Vice President Jorge Glass was
01:37returned to his cell after an assassination attempt.
01:40According to the authorities, all security protocols were activated before and remain
01:44active.
01:46The response managed to stop incidents that were generated by other prisoners and that
01:50in effect put the life of the former vice president at risk.
01:54The organization points to incidents generated intentionally to destabilize order and peace,
01:59and assures that Jorge Glass enjoys security guarantees.
02:02Despite the measures granted by national and international bodies, the former vice president
02:05has been held in La Roca prison since Ecuadorian forces assaulted the Mexican embassy where
02:11he was in asylum in April 2024.
02:17And in Ecuador, the presidential candidate for the Citizens' Revolution Movement, Luisa
02:20González, officially launched her electoral campaign for the general elections to be held
02:24on February 9th.
02:26During a massive act in the Coliseum of CalderĂłn, in the north of the city of Quito, candidate
02:32González made a brief review of her proposals for the presidency.
02:35At the same time, she questioned the administration of President Obama and the non-fulfillment
02:39of his promises to the Ecuadorian people, highlighting the electricity and security
02:43crisis the country faces.
02:46She also begins electoral campaigns amidst criticisms to President Obama for not requesting
02:51a license established by law, and for the generalized crisis that the country is going
02:55through expressed in the economic situation, the energy deficit, and the alarming insecurity.
03:01With this example, that we can change the destiny of our country with truth, honesty
03:10and transparency, we are here today at the beginning of the campaign for the definitive
03:22change and the dignity of our country.
03:32Presidential candidate Luisa González condemned the Ecuadoran government's lack of interest
03:37in the needs of the people, stressing the crisis facing the country is due to the betrayal
03:41of its leaders.
03:42I challenge any political party to stand in front of us, and not say if they have told
03:52the truth to the people when they present themselves at the polls.
03:55There will be those who say that they have not governed, but they have co-governed with
03:58the worst of those parties that plunged us into disgrace.
04:02They voted in the assembly against the Ecuadoran people, as they have just voted against four
04:16missing children.
04:17That is what they have been, mercenaries of politics, without thinking about the needs
04:21of the people.
04:22When you reflect on what brought us here, remember that what brought us here was the
04:25division of power, the betrayal, and the focus on personal interests and not on the
04:30interests of the great majority.
04:35In the midst of this panorama, candidates qualified by the National Electoral Council
04:38started their campaign from this Sunday until next February 6th.
04:42Among them the current president Daniel Novoa, candidate for the government party, at the
04:46same time Leonidas Issa, indigenous leader, designated by the members of the Extraordinary
04:51Assembly of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador as candidate for
04:54the next general elections, and the presidential candidate for the Popular Unity Party, Jorge
04:59Escala Zambrano.
05:06The National Assembly of Venezuela inaugurated its new session corresponding to the 2025-2026
05:11term and ratifies its authorities for the legislative year to come.
05:15During the installation session of this new legislative term, the Venezuelan deputies
05:19ratified Jorge Rodriguez as the assembly's president, as well as the assembly's board
05:24for this term, including Pedro Infantes as first vice president of the assembly and
05:29America PĂ©rez as second vice president, along with other authorities.
05:32Proposals were brought to the legislature, voted on, and then the approved members were
05:37sworn in for their functions.
05:40The first task to be assumed by the Venezuelan legislature after its installation will be
05:45to swear in President Nicolás Maduro on January 10th, following his victory in the elections
05:50of July 28th, 2024.
05:57On Sunday, the University of Havana celebrated its 297th anniversary, paying tribute to the
06:02distinguished figures and reflecting on their historical and current importance.
06:07The university director Miriam Nicado highlighted the university's commitment to the history
06:12of the Cuban Revolution in relation to its important contributions to politics, culture
06:16and science.
06:17Nicado reaffirmed the commitment to dedication and excellence, in addition to the construction
06:22of ideas that deserve to be transferred to the leadership of the country to contribute
06:27to the homeland.
06:28The university institution, in addition to its educational work, also performs social,
06:32economic and defense activities in the country.

07:09Welcome back.
07:10The Dominican Republic encourages citizens' participation in the collection of recyclable
07:14plastic material by organizing a Plastic for Toys Exchange Day the day before the Three
07:19Kings Day.
07:20Let's see.
07:21The municipality of Santo Domingo organizes a day of exchange of plastic for toys just
07:28before the Day of the Three Kings, a useful and environmentally friendly initiative that
07:33promotes recycling and will allow hundreds of Dominicans to receive bicycles and dolls,
07:39while emphasizing the municipality's commitment to environmental care.
07:43Some citizens highlighted the importance of this initiative that seeks to keep the
07:47municipality clean and healthy.
07:50It is greatly appreciated because when it rains heavily, the drains get clogged.
07:58By preventing this contamination, it truly makes a difference and is something that is
08:02genuinely valued.
08:08Authorities have recognized the importance of recycled plastic, not only for the cleanliness
08:13and health of the city, but also for the local micro- and macro-economy, and all the
08:18actors that use plastic to develop some kind of economic activity.
08:26Year after year, these plastics are handled by foundations that work on the disposal and
08:31conversion of plastic materials, giving them a new life cycle.
08:34On one hand, they are sent to some foundations, while other institutions use them to create
08:39various types of furniture for parks.
08:45This was the fifth edition of this Plastics for Toys program promoted by the Mayor's Office
08:50of Santo Domingo.
08:52According to members of the event's organizers, on this occasion, 3.7 million bottles were
08:57collected this time, and according to the City Council, 14 million bottles had been
09:01collected in previous editions of the project, figures that favorably highlight the community's
09:06commitment to the initiative.
09:11In Spain, children who have been forced to migrate have already received a visit from
09:15the Three Wise Kings in solidarity, thanks to donations from citizens.
09:19They have delivered almost 2,000 toys, so that no child is left without a gift.
09:24More information from our colleague Lucia Muñoz Lucena.
09:27The most awaited day of the year for children has finally arrived, the day of the three
09:36kings.
09:37Omishai Anom arrived in Spain from Nigeria 20 years ago.
09:40Amidst nerves, he accompanies his daughter and son to collect the gifts left for them
09:45by the kings in solidarity.
09:50We are here so that the children have toys, because it is very important that the children
09:54have toys, because on this date, when the children don't have toys, it is like a seal
10:01for life.
10:06The Kings of Solidarity is an initiative of the Integration for Life Collective.
10:10The objective is that no child in a situation of social exclusion is left without a gift.
10:15There are many families who, like Mercedes from Bolivia, left their country behind when
10:19they migrated, but the illusion always travels with them.
10:26This day is very important.
10:28We are waiting here for the kings to come and the children too, those who do not have
10:32toys can come here and receive a gift, because there are many, so that all the children do
10:36not lack any gift.
10:43The inflation in basic needs such as food and in rights such as housing, which families
10:48have to face every day, leaves no margin to buy gifts on this special day.
10:52For this reason, Integration for Life assists hundreds of families in social exclusion and
10:58thanks to donations from the public, they can maintain the magic of Christmas.
11:04We also consider that it is a basic need for the child to have a toy.
11:08Many times the families don't thank us, even though it's like if we didn't give them that,
11:13they wouldn't have anything to give them.
11:15Some of them do have relatives and people close to them who can help them, but many
11:18of them are waiting for this day to put a gift under the tree and give it to them on
11:22the 6th.
11:23Sometimes they don't even let the children open it here, because they want to save it
11:27for the 6th.
11:28Or many of them do open it knowing that it is the only thing they are going to receive.
11:37That no child is left without a toy.
11:40This is the mission of the kings and kings in solidarity.
11:44They have come here with more than 1,950 gifts donated on a day, when they are still waiting
11:49for the most exciting night of the year.
11:55After making it through the East, the wise men are already walking the streets of half
12:00the world.
12:01These migrant kings not only bring gifts to the little ones and those who are not so little
12:06anymore, but also remind us that the magic lies in being in solidarity with others and
12:11achieving peace.

12:56In South Korea, Seoul Western District Court rules to overturn arrest warrant for impeached
13:01President Jun Suk-Jae-ho.
13:02The arrest was requested by the high-ranking official's corruption investigation bureau,
13:07charging Jun with planning and organizing the declaration of martial law, as well as orchestrating
13:12an insurrection and abusing his power.
13:14His legal team previously requested the invalidation of the order and supported the request on
13:18the grounds that only the prosecution can request the arrest.
13:22Thousands of South Koreans have rallied outside Jun's residence in support of his arrest,
13:26while others reject his detention.
13:28It is important to highlight the fact that Jun has ignored three summons to be questioned.
13:38The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Monday morning that Southern troops have completely
13:43liberated one of the key cities in Donbass.
13:45It is about the largest populated southwestern Kurakhovo.
13:49In their first reconnaissance of the area, they estimate that Ukrainian forces have lost
13:53over 12,000 troops in the battlefield, that is 80 percent of their personnel and about
13:583,000 units of various weapons and military equipment, including about 40 tanks and other
14:03armored vehicles.
14:04The defense office attached importance to Kurakhovo as the area has become a powerful
14:09fortified area with a developed network of long-range firing points and subway communications
14:14in the past 10 years.
14:19The Israeli occupation forces have fiercely intensified their attacks on Gaza, while Israel
14:43and Hamas' resistance movement have been discussing a possible truce.
14:47Authorities reported on Monday morning eight deaths in Sheikh Rahwan and numerous injuries
14:51in northern Gaza.
14:52In addition, they informed people went missing after a bombing on a house nearby the Omari

15:02to Monday.
15:03Meanwhile, the resistance movement from northern Gaza fired missiles at Sederot, hitting to
15:08death at least three settlers in northeastern West Bank.
15:12Moreover, the Palestinian movement mounted a raid against a bus in which six Israeli
15:17settlers were injured.
15:18In Palestine, the ongoing Israeli blockade of Gaza has led to a critical shortage of
15:27medications severely impacting health care services in the region.
15:31The blockade has restricted the import of vital medical supplies, exacerbating an already
15:35dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
15:37The local Ministry of Health reports that about 20 drugs used to treat cancer are completely
15:42out of stock.
15:43Health care provision is on the verge of collapse due to ongoing Israeli attacks on hospitals
15:48and medical facilities, which has left only 16 of 36 hospitals partially operating, according
15:54to the World Health Organization.
15:56The Indonesian hospital and Kamal Adwan Hospital, two of the main medical centers in northern
16:00Gaza, have been severely affected by the attacks, with the former paralyzed and the latter set
16:05on fire after being evacuated.
16:12And local activists denounce alarming increases in sectarian violence in western Syria, where
16:16500 people have been arbitrarily arrested in the last three days.
16:20The operations are carried out specifically in Latakia and Tartus, in the province of
16:24Homs.
16:25They denounce that the public security forces seem to act in accordance with the law, and
16:29their parliamentary groups do not do the dirty work.
16:32They arrest Alawite Muslims and subject them to humiliating treatment.
16:37Ranking officers are forced to flee and to crawl, often without clothes.
16:41The current location of most of the detainees is unknown, while western governments reached
16:47agreements with terrorists.
16:48The sister and the aunt of the artist, Baha al-Yusuf, were killed by the new rulers.
16:59A new attack on a gas station south of Khartoum, capital of Sudan, in the context of the conflict
17:03between the Sudanese army and the rapid support forces, has left at least 10 people dead and
17:0830 injured.
17:09The emergency room of the Southern Sun detailed that the injured were transferred to the Bashar
17:13Hospital.
17:14At least five of them are in critical condition due to first-degree burns.
17:18Activists have stated that the area is very crowded as locals come to do their shopping.
17:23This is the third attack in less than a month.
17:39A powerful winter storm, dubbed Blair, is impacting over 60 million people across the
17:56United States, stretching from Kansas to New Jersey.
18:00In Louisville, Kentucky, residents are experiencing hazardous conditions as snowfall accumulates
18:04with predictions of an additional one to three inches overnight.
18:09The storm has already caused significant travel disruptions, leading to nearly 2,200 flight
18:13cancellations and 25,000 delays nationwide.
18:17Authorities have declared emergencies in several states, urging residents to stay off the roads
18:21due to icy conditions and multi-vehicle accidents reported on major highways.

18:31of blizzard conditions and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph.
