00:00 Hello, it's a bank holiday weekend for many of us and the weather looks mixed.
00:04 There will be some heavy showers, especially on Saturday, but there will also be some sunshine
00:09 around.
00:10 Tantalisingly, high pressure is nearby.
00:13 It's trying to move in, but it's not really succeeding.
00:16 Low pressure, the dominant feature of our weather as it has been for much of this week.
00:21 And just edging around that low, we've got some heavy and thundery showers.
00:25 Slow moving in some locations, so potentially causing some disruption.
00:29 We do have a Met Office warning in place across southeast Scotland through the night and into
00:33 Saturday morning.
00:35 Heavy showers elsewhere will feed into northwest England and north Wales and will keep things
00:40 fairly soggy and blustery across northern Scotland.
00:43 Further south, the showers will tend to fade away.
00:45 There'll be some clearer spells over the Midlands and it may just start a little misty in some
00:49 spots as a result.
00:51 It'll also start on the cool side with temperatures in rural spots into single figures, towns
00:55 and cities, what, 10 to 12 degrees.
00:58 OK, on to Saturday and yes, for some, we'll start with a bit of sunshine, parts of the
01:02 Midlands, eastern England, for example.
01:05 But we will see showers developing.
01:06 We'll already have some heavy ones over southeastern Scotland and northern Scotland.
01:10 Plenty of showers for north Wales.
01:12 Just look at this, by the afternoon, those showers widespread.
01:16 One or two areas may not see too many.
01:18 The central belt of Scotland, southwest Scotland, may avoid most of the downpours.
01:22 Decent chance of some sunny spells here and elsewhere.
01:25 As you can see, there will be some sunshine, but you will have to dodge those downpours.
01:29 Quite breezy too around western coasts, particularly the western side of Scotland and the north
01:34 coast of Northern Ireland.
01:36 Elsewhere further east, the winds will be lighter, which means the showers could be
01:39 quite slow moving.
01:41 That means there could be some lengthier spells of sunshine.
01:43 You get a bit of sun and the east temperatures will creep up over 20 Celsius, but generally
01:47 high teens and for most, these temperatures are below average for the end of August.
01:52 So it isn't going to be a warm weekend.
01:55 These don't really warm up as we go through the weekend either.
01:58 Still some heavy showers around.
01:59 You've got plans on Saturday evening.
02:01 Again, be aware there could be some heavy showers around.
02:05 Through the night, the showers will tend to fade for many inland areas, but we'll keep
02:08 some going in northern Scotland and through parts of Wales.
02:12 And then Sunday, again, it's sunshine and showers.
02:15 And again, a good chunk of the country, particularly central and eastern England, likely to start
02:19 dry and remain fine and sunny for most of the morning.
02:22 In the afternoon, we will see more showers developing.
02:25 Southern Scotland, the Midlands, down across central and the eastern parts of England.
02:29 They will again be scattered.
02:30 There will again be some sunshine and then we're likely to have a slice of drier weather
02:34 across parts of the west.
02:36 Wales, southwest England, much of western Scotland through the afternoon, but clouding
02:40 over further west for Northern Ireland and western Scotland with some rain trickling
02:44 in here late in the day.
02:46 That is a weather front.
02:47 It's not particularly active.
02:48 The rain won't be very heavy, but it will cloud over here.
02:51 So kind of splitting into three zones come Sunday afternoon.
02:55 Again, it'll be in east where we have the highest temperatures.
02:57 But again, for most high teens at best and below average for the time of year.
03:03 That weather front in the west will be fairly weak anyway, but continuing to weaken during
03:08 Sunday night as it moves its way in, kind of breaking up as we head into Monday.
03:12 As I said, a bank holiday for many.
03:14 And look at this.
03:15 There's a little ridge of high pressure trying to topple in.
03:17 So the remnants of that weather front bringing cloud and maybe some light rain and drizzle
03:21 early on, but should break up.
03:24 So just really the odd shower come the afternoon for a good chunk of the country.
03:28 Actually, Monday will be dry.
03:30 Can't promise a huge amount of sunshine, fairly cloudy.
03:33 We should see some blue sky coming through at times and just signs of temperatures creeping
03:37 up a little bit.
03:38 Still only around about average and still for many only in the teens.
03:42 But if we see a bit more sunshine on Monday, those temperatures might just be a little
03:45 bit higher and the winds will be a little bit lighter as well.
03:48 So as I said, it is a fairly mixed long weekend.
