00:00 Hello and welcome to our latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04 So there's been plenty of heavy rain and showers and even the odd thunderstorm throughout this
00:09 weekend but let's have a look at the detail for this evening.
00:12 Well, rain across Scotland and North East England will slowly pull away into the North
00:17 Sea with some further patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing for a time.
00:22 Showers will continue to feed into southern and western coasts and could bring the odd
00:26 rumble of thunder through tonight and will be fairly frequent across southern parts of
00:31 Wales and South East England.
00:33 There will be some clearer skies though especially across central and eastern parts of England
00:38 as well as Scotland so we could see the odd patch of mist and fog tonight and across sheltered
00:43 north-western parts of Scotland maybe even a touch of frost to start the new week.
00:49 So Monday brings some drier and brighter conditions for some, especially across Scotland, but
00:54 showers continuing for many, especially across the south and west.
00:59 Heavy for a time, especially across southern parts of Wales and southern coasts of England.
01:03 A little bit more in the way of sunshine here though than what we've seen throughout the
01:07 weekend.
01:08 So temperatures varying a little bit better with highs of 15 to 16 here but notice those
01:14 winds across Scotland are now coming from a northerly direction.
01:17 So despite the sunny skies here, temperatures only just getting into the double figures.
01:23 Now into the rest of Monday afternoon and showers pushing into Northern Ireland will
01:27 come a little bit more organised so bringing some persistent and heavy rain here that could
01:32 bring some localised disruption.
01:35 This band of showers will slowly start to make its way into southern parts of England
01:39 and Wales into the early hours of Tuesday but generally dry with some clear skies to
01:45 the north-east of this.
01:46 Again we could see some mist and fog to start Tuesday morning.
01:50 Generally a cool night but not much of a frost around for many, maybe just the sheltered
01:55 glens of Scotland seeing some patchy frost to start Tuesday.
02:00 Now for many, Tuesday's not going to be that bad of a day.
02:02 We've got this band of showers making its way north-eastwards, fizzling out though as
02:06 it does so.
02:07 So to the north and east of this, the driest conditions, brightest weather will be across
02:12 Scotland.
02:13 Bit of respite as well for Northern Ireland and south-western parts of England and Wales
02:18 but that is ahead of this next system moving in as we go through the latter part of Tuesday
02:23 afternoon and into Wednesday.
02:26 Temperatures fairing fairly well on Tuesday though still cool in the north with those
02:30 highs only getting to around 9 or 10.
02:34 Now let's just take a zoom out for now and have a look at the bigger picture.
02:37 So this is the pressure pattern that we've got to start at the end of Tuesday.
02:41 You'll notice low pressure is still around and the isobars are starting to tighten up.
02:46 Well that is ahead of Storm Ciaran that's going to move north-eastwards across the UK
02:51 throughout Wednesday evening and through the day on Thursday bringing some disruptive wind
02:56 and rain especially to southern parts of the UK but we will also see some strong winds
03:01 and outbreaks of rain further north too.
