Becoming My Father (Poem with Music)

Lyrics:

Becoming My Father

I found that I was becoming my father
I had started off as the weird kid
I was trying to navigate the edge of the curb
A piece of metal flew into his eyelid
His voice echoed through the wooden halls
While I couldn’t quit staring at the patch
I stay up at night with my eyes closed
Because my whole life is afraid of the scratch

I found that I was becoming my father
My goals are no longer my own
He puts his finger in my chest and tells me to pay
Stay away from your friends to earn a loan
I promise to him to do a little better
And submit an application for his old job
But when they called him he said don’t hire me
Because my whole life the place will rob

I found that I was becoming my father
I can’t believe the words that I speak
The phrases and tones are inherited
I can’t control the authority that I seek
The children all cower away in fear
The temperature is rising in my brain
My volume and sternness steadily increases
I’m wondering what my whole life has to gain
