Matar paneer, also known as mattar paneer, and mutter paneer is a vegetarian North Indian dish consisting of peas and paneer in a tomato-based sauce, spiced with garam masala. It is often served with jeera rice and Butter Naan.

Ingredients for Paste:
(Serves 4)
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 Onions(chopped)
- 8 Garlic Cloves
- 1 inch Ginger
- 3 Tomatoes(chopped)
- 1/4 cup Cashew Nuts
- 1/2 cup Water
Ingredients for Matar Paneer:
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Seeds Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Fenugreek Leaves Powder
- 1 1/2 cup Green Peas(boiled)
- Salt
- 1 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
- 1 cup Water
- 150 gms Paneer(cubes)
Method:
1. Take oil in a pan and let it heat
2. Now, add roughly chopped onions to it and saute it till the onions slightly change its color
3. Add garlic cloves, ginger, chopped tomatoes, cashew nuts and 1/2 cup water to the pan and saute it
4. Cover the pan with its lid and let it cook for around 5 minutes, so the tomatoes become soft
5. Let this mixture cool down and add some water and grind it, to make the paste
6. Take a pan again and heat it
7. Add oil to it and let it heat
8. Now, add cumin seeds, and once the cumin seeds have spluttered, lower the heat
9. Start adding red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander seeds powder, garam masala, fenugreek leaves powder and saute it
10. Now, add in the paste that was made earlier and mix it
11. After mixing add in boiled green peas(matar) and mix it
12. Add salt and tomato ketchup, and mix it
13. Now, add 1 cup water; mix it and wait till it boils
14. Once it starts boiling, add paneer to the gravy
15. Mix it and let it cook for around 5 minutes
16. Once cooked, take it out in a serving bowl and serve it hot
