Inside The Americas - Peru’s Organic Foods Movement

In Peru, the growing organic food movement relies on ancestral agricultural methods. It has expanded from small neighborhood markets to health product stores. Grains such as quinua, kiwicha and canigua have been used for 6,000 years in Peru and provides us with all the proteins and amino acids our bodies need. We visit the Santa Natura and Campos de Vida health food stores that offer healthy foods native to the country and also educate customers on the health benefits of the products. At Campos de Vida, for example, you can find quinua tamales, shakes with Andean grains, green soup, vegetable pastries and cakes without gluten. We also visit the only fully certified organic restaurant in the country, El Almacen, where the head chef shows us how to make a delicious creamy sauce from a kind of pumpkin called loche and other vegetables. He also expresses his respect for the farm workers, who have kept the organic cultivation methods alive. teleSUR
