00:55Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:01We begin with the news.
01:02In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro led a meeting with the Council of State and Defense
01:07of Venezuela to take measures in the face of violent acts by the extreme right wing.
01:12During the meeting, President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of a special commission
01:16to evaluate the country's biosecurity system with the help of Russian and Chinese advisers.

01:26acts of the Venezuelan extreme right.
01:29Likewise, the President also ordered the deployment of the special plan within the framework of
01:35the second phase of the Republic Plan so that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and police
01:41forces developed a patrol and protection plan for the streets, avenues, urbanization, and communities.
02:11And we are denouncing it.
02:15On time, since 2023 and now 2024, they were trying to use the electoral campaign with
02:26the sponsorship of the United States and the Colombian drug dealers to mount an opposition
02:36force to perpetrate criminality and violence and attempt, during, after, before, or after,
02:45to launch an offensive against the peace of the people, against the peace of the citizenship,
02:53against institutions, against all of Venezuela.
03:01President Maduro also announced that the utmost is being done to establish peace in the country.
03:07We're going to extreme all the actions to protect the people, to re-establish the peace,
03:15to capture the people that are criminals, and so that Venezuela in justice and to re-establish
03:22the normality.
03:24We have already talked with the sectors, the economic sectors, so that they progressively
03:30are reopening, reopen their businesses and the supply, and the people can go back to
03:36their normal activities, all the pharmacies, all the activities.
03:45After President Nicolás Maduro led a meeting with the Council of State and Defense of Venezuela
03:50to take measures in the face of violent acts by the extreme right-wing, the head of state
03:54addressed the nation from the People's Balcony of the Miraflores Palace.
03:58During his statements, the President strongly condemned the destabilizing and fascist actions
04:03of the extreme right in the country, and expressed his commitment to ensure citizen security
04:08and the well-being of the people.
04:10Moreover, the Bolivarian leader called on the people to mobilize, starting on Wednesday,
04:14July 31st, in support of the results of the presidential elections of July 28th.
04:20We will defend the flag, the homeland, and the people from fascism, and we will win against
04:35fascism, against hatred.
04:38Meanwhile, hundreds of Venezuelans took to the streets to mobilize in favor of President
04:45Nicolás Maduro after he was re-elected in the elections of last Sunday, July 28th.
04:50Among banners, flags and slogans, the Venezuelan people have concentrated in different points
04:55of the country to defend the votes, peace and sovereignty of the country.
04:59It is worth mentioning that the supporters assure that the National Electoral Council
05:04is a 100% transparent organism, and that the extreme right-wing must accept defeat.
05:14The National Assembly of Venezuela rejected the acts of violence promoted by the far
05:19right in the country.
05:20During the ordinary session of the National Assembly, the deputies expressed their support
05:24to the results issued by the National Electoral Council, which confirmed the victory of President
05:29Nicolás Maduro.
05:30The congressmen backed the decision to withdraw diplomatic personnel from countries that reject
05:35the will of the Venezuelan people, expressed at the polls on July 28th.
05:40They also condemned the violent and terrorist acts financed by the international and national
05:45extreme right-wing that seeks to destabilize the country and destroy the state and its
05:50democratic institutions.
05:57The President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge RodrĂguez, expressed the true intentions
06:02of the extreme right during last Sunday's presidential election campaign.
06:09The plan of these sectors of extremism was not an electoral plan.
06:13They were not participating in elections.
06:15They were not going to cities and towns to win the favor of the voters with their arguments.
06:19They were going to cities and towns to create their violent groups, to give them money,
06:24to distribute the drugs, which were going to be used for the moment in which they decided
06:28to take off their clothes of goodness and religiosity and show themselves as they are.
06:36On the other hand, the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, referred to
06:40acts of terrorism by extreme far-right groups to sabotage the results and transparency of
06:45this election.
06:46In this sense, he pointed out that those acts were controlled by the authorities and those
06:51responsible are being identified.
06:54We provided information through our informative networks about the ones who were accountable
07:08for these actions.
07:10Unfortunately, they used, again, many minors, teenagers, people under the effects of drugs,
07:23who, consecutive, they were to burn down.
07:31They will tell us that it is a peaceful rally, as it happened in the past, but this detainees
07:40and prosecuted people, they will place them on the list of wanted for the government.
07:51The General Attorney of Venezuela also detailed how the public institutions have been assaulted
07:56by these terrorist attacks.
07:59They burned down health centers, they tore down monuments of Venezuela, they tore down
08:18a monument in homage to the Saint Jose, and likewise, they brought back to public venues
08:31as the headquarters of the Electoral Council and the headquarters in Suate, armed people
08:44launching bombs, burning down venues and public centers.
08:51Furthermore, the General Attorney assured that the Public Prosecutor's Office will continue
08:57defending peace, dignity and the Venezuelan people in the face of attempted coups by foreign
09:02powers.
09:03I want to ratify that the Prosecutor's Office, on 24 hours, in midnight, morning, evening,
09:18we are active for a real time to act against these criminals because, as I said initially,
09:27the Prosecutor's Office is different, it is defending peace, dignity and the Venezuelan
09:36people, which I want to congratulate and I give my top support for keeping up our unity
09:47and defending sovereignty and not allow the interference of external powers that want
09:55to invade and glory to the brave Venezuelan people.

11:09As we can see, there is tranquility.
11:16This is the main avenue of the capital.
11:21There's no one on the streets.
11:26This is taking place after the president addressed the people from the balcony of the people
11:33in the Miraflores Palace, following the recent attacks against the country and against the
11:42peace by opposition groups throughout the nation.

12:38wing in the country.
12:55Welcome back.
12:56On Tuesday, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, denounced foreign interference
13:01in Venezuela's presidential elections.
13:03In this way, the Mexican president assured that it is necessary for international powers
13:08to respect the autonomy of Venezuela.
13:10In addition, AMLO reproached the interference of several countries in the elections by breaking
13:15diplomatic relations with Caracas.
13:17On the other hand, Mexican president has stressed that there must be room for political confrontation,
13:23but not for violent actions, assuring that he condemns coup d'etat's attempts.
13:33But for the self-determination of peoples, and don't the governments of other countries,
13:39whether a small, medium or large, have things to do, that they have to interfere in the
13:44affairs of other countries, because it is interference?
13:50In other information, in the United Kingdom, three children died and five were critically
13:54injured after a knife attack in a dance class in Southport, northwest of England.
13:59The incident, that also left two adults with critical injuries, occurred on Monday in a
14:04property that was hosting a Taylor Swift-themed dance class for young children.
14:09According to Merseyside Police, a 17-year-old male has been arrested.
14:14The suspect apparently walked in from the street and started to attack the children.
14:20He was then detained by police officers, who also seized a knife from the scene.
14:24In response to the violent event, whose three victims were girls aged six, seven and nine
14:29years old, singer Taylor Swift stated to be shocked and at a complete loss.
14:34In this context, Merseyside Police Chief Serena Kennedy recounted the attack on a news conference.
14:44When they arrived, they were shocked to find that multiple people, many of whom were children,
14:49had been subjected to a ferocious attack and had suffered serious injuries.
14:55It is understood that the children were attending a Taylor Swift event at a dance school, when
15:00the offender, armed with a knife, walked into the premises and started to attack inside the children.
15:08We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children
15:13who were being attacked.
15:15In the aftermath of the attack, the recently elected UK Prime Minister, Kate Starmer, sent
15:20his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the emergency services for their response.
15:26The events today are just truly awful and I know the whole country is deeply shocked
15:34at what they've seen and what they've heard.
15:37And I know I speak for everybody in the whole country in saying our thoughts and condolences
15:43with the victims, their families, their friends and the wider community and it's almost impossible
15:50to imagine the grief that they're going through and the trauma that they're going through.
15:56I do want to thank the emergency services and Merseyside Police who've had to respond
16:01to the most difficult of circumstances today.
