New research has found that chewing gum could help to prevent earworms--which are songs that play continuously in people’s heads--or it could at least shorten the play cycle.

The frustrating phenomenon of having a song play repeatedly in your head--also called an earworm--could be helped with one simple trick. 
According to recent research, chewing gum reduces the likelihood of the song loop from even happening, and if it does start, the cycle time could be shortened by about a third.
The jaw motion is thought to interrupt the mechanisms in the brain that involve unwanted thoughts.
