A new study out of Stanford University and the University of Cambridge suggests that a computer may understand you better than your friends do.

When put to the test, an algorithm designed to pinpoint an individual’s personality based on their Facebook likes proved more accurate than questionnaires filled out by pals and family members.

Spouses were the exception, performing slightly better than the program.

The participants who were being evaluated completed a personality test that determined the five key personality traits of openness, conscientiousness, how neurotic they are, if they’re agreeable, and their level of extraversion.

As part of the testing agreement, those individuals also granted permission for the researchers to access their Facebook accounts.
