A man in Texas recently pleaded guilty to deliberately driving his Bugatti Veyron into Gulf waters as part of an insurance scam.

On Tuesday, it was announced that 39-year-old Andy House admitted to committing wire mail fraud. According to court officials, House purchased the super fast 2006 Bugatti for $1 million in 2009 and promptly had it insured for $2.2 million.
The crash occurred not long after it was bought. Following the accident in November, House told first responders he was reaching for his cell phone when he looked up and saw a pelican.
He claimed to have swerved to the right, which caused the vehicle to plummet into the water. What House didn’t know at the time was that another motorist had videoed the accident and the moments leading up to it.
It shows the car steadily traveling down the road before subtly turning off onto land leading to the lagoon. There weren't any abrupt maneuvers.
No pelican was seen either. House wasn’t hurt and was reportedly calm after the crash.
The video which quickly went viral and the insurance claim that was double what the car was worth were red flags to investigators.
House’s sentencing hearing has not been set but he faces up to 20 years behind bars.
