For zoo staffers, there’s nothing more exciting than the arrival of a new baby animal. Employees at Chapultepec Zoo in Mexico City are celebrating the birth of a new dromedary, or one humped camel.

The reason why everyone is exceptionally happy about the male’s birth is because he’s the first to be born at the zoo in nearly a decade. Although it was a joyous event, the camel didn’t have the best start to life.

Born on April 5th of this year, his mother named Sahara is a first time mom and she began showing signs of aggression towards the young calf. Fearing she might harm her offspring, staffers were forced to separate the two.

They had to artificially feed the baby; unfortunately taking away that mother and baby bonding time. Nevertheless, the calf managed to thrive.

At birth, he weighed a little over 50 pounds and within two weeks he had nearly doubled his weight. Now zoo employees are making plans to reintroduce the baby camel to his family.

The calf doesn’t yet have a name though, so the first order of business is to pick the perfect one. The zoo is now asking Netizens to help with that decision.
