A woman living in Denver, Colorado has reportedly discovered a shard of metal in her prescription medication tablet.

Michelle Baker had been prescribed the generic version of a drug called Buspar for anxiety and she was breaking the pills in half to regulate the dose.

Baker is quoted as saying: "I'm on my second week and as I was splitting the pill in half it poked me and stuck to my finger. When I looked closely with a magnifying glass there was a metal shard stuck in the pill."

She hadn’t noticed anything unusual when taking the pill before, but now she is concerned that she might have been swallowing small pieces of metal for nearly two weeks because of taking something that was prescribed to her by a medical professional.

The manufacturers of the pill, Teva pharmaceuticals, refused to comment until there have been further investigations into the matter.

Baker says she will seek another form of treatment for her anxiety problems, but medical experts say that consuming a small amount of metal shouldn’t cause any serious harm unless it contains poisonous heavy metals like mercury.
