Chevron Offers Residents Free Pizza Following Fracking Incident
In order to compensate the locals for the time they spent in fear and under stress following a fracking incident, Chevron blanketed the area with coupons for free pizzas.
Not long ago, a fracking well in Pennsylvania owned by Chevron exploded, shooting flames in the air and causing the homes of nearby residents to shake.
The flames burned on for 5 days, causing area occupants to grow concerned about the threat of airborne toxins.
In order to compensate the locals for the time they spent in fear and under stress, Chevron blanketed the area with coupons for free pizzas.
Each recipient got one voucher, which entitles him or her to a large special combo and a 2-liter soda at a local restaurant.
It’s unclear if ingredient substitutions are allowed.
According to the shop, about 100 of them were issued.
Along with the offer was a letter from the community outreach people at Chevron.
It read, in part, “Chevron recognizes the effect this has had on the community. We value being a responsible member of this community and will continue to strive to achieve incident-free operations.”
To put Chevron’s act of good will into perspective, Philadelphia Daily News pointed out that last year the company made about 21 billion dollars.
