Here are 5 news stories from around the world 100 years ago.

What was happening in the world one hundred years ago? Hi this is Matt and here are 5 New York Times headlines from March 15th, 1913.

Number 5 - One of the biggest stories on March 15th covered John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s trip to Cuba. He ended up at the wrong Havana dock. And he got to the hotel only after being helped by an African American.

Number 4 - How did the young boys keep themselves busy in New Jersey back then? Apparently, by having a huge stone fight. Due to that fight, 'all traffic over the canal bridge was stopped and trolley cars were tied up for
more than half an hour.'

Number 3 - Hey - up for a soda in 1913? There was a half price sale going. Among the more interesting flavors - Phosphates, yes that's right - phosphates for 5 cents and then you could get a plain soda with syrup and cream, also for 5 cents.

Number 2 - Here's an update on some fashion news from a hundred years ago. Dickeys were getting popular in Germany and so were the detachable cuffs. The report noted - "The majority of laborers and clerks on small salaries there wear the dickey."

Number 1 - The National Housewives League was concerned about the high cost of living and in particular meat prices. In their view, farmers were not raising enough animals and they were appealing to the farming industry to increase supply.
