The Triple E is capable of hauling 18 thousand 20 foot long containers, and at a quarter mile long it uses eight times more steel than the Eiffel Tower.
Only a handful of ports have ship yards large enough to handle the capacity of the Triple E, and the water displaced by the enormous ship can force other docked ships to become untied.
Shipping carriers have been struggling to remain profitable in recent years due to vessel overcapacity and lower demand.
Maersk is the largest container carrier company in the world, operating 6 hundred ships with a combined capacity of over 2 and a half million standard containers.
At any time, around 20 percent of all cargo containers in the world are empty.
