A talented jeweler transforms watch parts into unusual things.

A man in Chicago creates stunning art in an unusual way.

JM Gershenson-Gates uses recycled watch parts to create jewelry and small one-of-a-kind artistic pieces.

He states “I take dead old watches from the top drawers of the world, disassemble and clean them, then rearrange their bits and widgets into whimsical designs.”

His works vary greatly: from intricate spiders or scorpions constructed of watch pieces, to feminine heart pendants with layered gears residing inside. He has also created a hand necklace, which utilized watch stems for finger bones.

It was molded into a claw like grasp and soldered onto an old watch plate. Another piece is called ‘Slide’ which is a vintage watch face that was cut into three pieces and gives an open appearance revealing the underlying gears.

Gates sums up his work stating “My aim is to show the beauty of the mechanical world, a place generally hidden from the public behind metal and glass.”
