Opinions on marriage vary from person to person. Some stick to traditional views, while others take the ‘whatever floats their boat’ approach.

A notary in Sao Paulo sparked a fierce debate after she accepted a ‘civil union’ between three people.

According to BBC, the trio consists of one man and two women who have been together for three years, residing in Rio de Janeiro and splitting bills.

The notary defended the three-way domestic association, claiming there is no law against it and states “For better or worse, it doesn't matter, but what we considered a family before isn't necessarily what we would consider a family today.”

Local residents and officials are in an uproar, saying the union is not legal and calling it “unacceptable which goes against Brazilian values and morals.”.

Several years ago, The Netherlands encountered a three-way union. A 46-year-old man “married” two women, both in their 30s. The new husband stated, “We went to the notary in our marriage costume and exchanged rings. We consider this to be just an ordinary marriage.”
