5 Unusual Sea Creatures - as part of the travel series by GeoBeats.

Here are 5 of the world's creepiest sea creatures:

Number 5 is the Vampire Squid. Their cape like skin which connects their 8 arms, gives them an appearance of a vampire. The body of a vampire squid is covered with light producing photophores over which they have incredible control. Using their light organs, squids can become completely invisible in the dark waters or can flash intricate light patterns to distract their predators.

Number 4 is the Longhorn Cow Fish. This fish has two pairs of horns on its head, like a cow and two on the bottom rear of the body. These horns make it hard to swallow by the predators. Longhorn Cow fish may also release toxins from their skin as a defense mechanism.

Number 3 is the Leafy Sea Dragon. With their golden-brown weed like appearance, these creatures are well camouflaged and hard to distinguish from the floating sea weeds they live in. Interestingly, the male sea dragons incubate the fertilized eggs. They have a spongy brood patch on the surface of their tails where females deposit eggs during mating.

Number 2 is the Blobfish. Found off the coast of Australia, this slimy looking fish lives so deep in the ocean that the pressure there is almost 8 times higher than at sea level. Such conditions make life impossible for any other fish; however, Bobfish's gelatinous body keeps it from sinking at such depths.

Number 1 is the axolotl. Native to the freshwater lakes of Mexico city, these creatures are on the brink of extinction in the wild due to city's rapid expansion. However, they are capable of re-growing their limbs completely. Given their wide use in scientific research, there's a good chance of their survival in captivity.
