Robin Hood to open Cannes Film Festival

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe, will open the Cannes Film Festival 2010.

The new adaptation of the folklore tale also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion.

The production encountered a number of setbacks and changes since filming began. At one point Crowe was touted to be playing both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Instead, the villain of the story will now be played by Matthew McFadyen.

Crowe and Scott have worked together on four movies, their most successful collaboration being Gladiator, which picked up five Academy Awards including Best Actor and Best Picture.
