00:00The NFL rumors are swirling as we approach the draft next week and one defensive superstar could
00:07potentially be on the trade block. Wow. And the Eagles, surprisingly enough, have been linked as
00:12a potential destination, but does it actually make sense? Would they even consider the idea?
00:18We'll break down all the details, discuss the pros and cons and a whole bunch more,
00:22but welcome into A to Z Philly. I'm RB. Do me a favor, like this video, go down below,
00:26subscribe to the channel and be sure to stay up to date with all of our Eagles coverage.
00:31We started off with Jalen Hurts, who has been selected to the 2025 time 100, an annual list
00:39of the hundred most influential people in the world, man. Look at that smile. Look at the
00:44confetti raining down. I'm so happy for Jalen, man. I mean, think about the struggles he went through
00:49in college, being benched, coming back, having a transfer and getting drafted in the second round
00:55with all this noise because of Carson Wentz fighting through that whole situation, having
01:00the ups, having the downs. 2023 collapse comes back and he's a Superbowl champion. He's in his
01:05mid twenties. He probably can win a couple more and man, he's just living on top of the world.
01:10He's in that dream tour mode right now. And I'm so happy for him. I'm so happy. This is the
01:15franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. He deserves all of it and more. And he's always
01:20stuck the course, man. He's always stayed on his journey. So shout out to Jalen Hurts.
01:26And speaking of another Superbowl champion for the Eagles, Dallas Goddard, apparently trying to
01:31be poached by the New York giants. What? The giants have reached out to the Eagles to inquire about
01:37Dallas Goddard in a potential trade per Jordan ran. And man, this is just insane. Like have some
01:43damn shame giants. We know you're a pathetic organization, but you know what the giants are like?
01:49They're like the broke guy who goes to the people that he screwed over and screwed out of money
01:55and stole money from, and then asks them for a loan because he's out of money. You know what I mean?
02:00Like, come on giants have some damn shame. Are you kidding me? You're coming to the Eagles for
02:04Dallas Goddard. Look, I know he's in his prime and I know he just had a great season and a great
02:09Superbowl, but come on, man, go get your tight end somewhere else. Why are you coming to the Eagles?
02:14That's just sad. That's pitiful. Shame on you giants. We know you stink,
02:18but we're not giving you any handouts. All right, go build your team the right way and get rid of
02:22that dumb GM that got Saquon up out of there, man. I love it though. It's funny. It's comedy.
02:28Thank you for providing the Eagles with all of this comedy. Okay, let's go ahead and get into the
02:34real matter today. And that is this. Okay. Per USA today, Eagles listed as a team that could
02:42potentially trade for Steelers star TJ Watt. What TJ Watt on the trade block. Hold up now.
02:50And I know what you're thinking. This isn't realistic. It's not going to happen. It's the
02:55off season. We're just spurting out rumors. I get it. Okay. But let's keep something in mind.
03:00Here was an article that was put out last year from TJ Watt and it was published by Michael David
03:06Smith of PFT TJ Watt reflects on his career last year saying quote, for me, it's all about no playoff
03:14wins. And in this piece, he admits that, yeah, I'm probably going to be one of the best defensive
03:19players of all time when it's all said and done, but it doesn't matter because I want to win
03:23something. How about we start off with one playoff game? Can I get one playoff win? Steelers were
03:28bounced again in their first playoff game this year. And TJ Watt, despite the stats has never won a
03:35playoff game, which is insane. He's been in the league, what eight years now. And here's what TJ
03:40Watt put on his Instagram story a few days ago. Uh, he just posts a picture of himself with a peace
03:47sign, which is now sending rage into a bunch of Steelers fans. Cause they think, okay, that means
03:52peace out. I'm gone. Well, could it maybe, maybe if we go and we look at an article here, uh, TJ Watt,
03:59it says posted a critic message on Instagram that seemingly indicated he and the Steelers were
04:05not in a good place. That led to multiple reports saying that the two sides had friction
04:09and that Pittsburgh was not expecting the price tag for Watt to be so high. I don't know why they
04:15wouldn't. I mean, this is an absolute superstar and he has been the best in the league. He's probably
04:21the best defensive player in the entire NFL. And of course you're going to have to negotiate a
04:26contract extension. And you just saw what a guy like Miles Garrett got, you know, in obviously
04:31different situations, entirely kind of different positions, I guess you could say, uh, technically,
04:36but you know, I mean, this is the price you're going to have to pay. It's all about resetting
04:40the market. And it says what is entering the 2025 season as a 30 year old has yet to win a playoff
04:46game. That's a lingering topic revolving around the former defensive player of the year.
04:50The Steelers don't seem to be getting any closer to breaking the streak as they get strung along by
04:54Aaron Rogers. Steelers and Watt went into negotiations and things have not gone as planned.
04:58Pittsburgh did not expect Watt to remove any hometown discount, but maybe they should have
05:02thought of that before they gave DK Metcalf $150 million. Then you see an article here on Yahoo
05:09Sports naming the Eagles as a potential contender in a TJ Watt trade. And this starts to get pretty
05:16interesting. All right. The Philadelphia Eagles have the third best odds, according to bet online
05:22to land TJ Watt via trade, trailing the new England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
05:28Watt is still under contract. He's entering the final year of his current deal and is seeking
05:32an extension, potentially pushing Pittsburgh to weigh their options. Philly has a glaring need on
05:37the edge after losing Josh sweat and free agency and seeing franchise legend BG retire, right?
05:43Don't forget Milton Williams as well. Like they lost some key defensive pieces. Sure. You got the
05:47young guys cycling in cycling through and they've already developed, but I mean, TJ Watt completely
05:52changes your defense. What a seven time pro bowler, four time first team, all pro has established
05:58himself as arguably the league's most dominant defensive player. He recorded 11 and a half sacks
06:03and led the league with six force fumbles and 24 further cementing his status as a future hall of
06:08famer. Spot track projects his deal at four years, one 46. Wow. That is a lot of money. And it says the
06:17Eagles are uniquely positioned to make a move 20 draft picks over the next two years. General manager,
06:22Howie Roseman has the ammunition to build a compelling offer. So we know the Eagles, um,
06:29didn't go for the miles Garrett stuff. Matter of fact, nobody did right. Because miles Garrett lied
06:33and said that he was all about winning. And then he goes back to Cleveland because they paid him 40 plus
06:38per year. So would they try to, I guess, have a second chance here by getting TJ Watt? You look
06:45at the stats. I mean, it's self-explanatory. I don't have to tell you how insane of a player he is.
06:50First, he's a Watt brother. They're all really good. But TJ Watt, I mean that the numbers every year of
06:56his career are there plays almost every single game. He's an absolute dog, but I do think people have
07:03fair concerns because in the playoffs, he's been in four different playoff games and he's lost every
07:08one. He doesn't really put up many stats. He only has one sack in four playoff games. So that's
07:13something to keep your mind on. Obviously the Eagles need edge rushers. They need linebackers,
07:19whatever, wherever you want to play this guy. I mean, he could do everything. I mean, he's an
07:22absolute dog, forced fumbles, pokes the ball away. Vic Fangio would love him. I mean, I don't have to
07:27sell TJ Watt to the fan base, right? But it all comes down to the monetary figure.
07:32And do I think Howie Roseman would go out and pay TJ Watt this amount of money? No, I do not.
07:38I don't. And we don't know if they would have had interest in Miles Garrett. The one thing that does
07:43concern me a bit is that some of the other teams listed that could be potential suitors for Watt
07:48include the commanders who also were in on Miles Garrett. No, I would not want to see TJ Watt
07:53come to the Washington commanders. Now, again, he is getting older, but still playing at a very high
07:57level and with better defensive players around him in Philly, I think he would also elevate his
08:03game to that next level yet again. But I just don't see Howie doing this. I think Howie Roseman's
08:09mentality is we would much rather go in and try to draft five guys at that position and hopefully hit
08:16on three of them rather than go trade for and pay TJ Watt. Keep in mind, you're going to have to give up
08:23a haul to get TJ Watt to begin with and then you're going to have to pay him and the Eagles are already
08:29restricted in a bunch of ways on the cap. They're already limited with their flexibility. That's
08:34why they had to trade some guys away this offseason and figure that whole thing out. Sure, Howie Roseman
08:39could find some loopholes. He could stretch this contract out, have void years, all that type of
08:44stuff. But do I think he wants to do that for the next four years with TJ Watt? No, I don't.
08:49I think Howie would much rather bank in the NFL draft and try to go land a player that can develop
08:56in year one and year two and maybe become a really good Pro Bowl type of player one day.
09:02I mean, we saw it with Jalex Hunt this past year. We've seen it with Nolan Smith. Howie is much more
09:06likely and he feels confident in his abilities to hit in on the draft. I understand why the Eagles are
09:12being mentioned given their unique situation and obviously they're primed to make another big time
09:18run and TJ Watt wants to win, but it just doesn't seem worth it to me, especially for a 30 year old
09:24at this point. So that's kind of where I'm at with this whole conversation. But what do you think?
09:28I mean, is TJ Watt actually going to get traded? Maybe the Steelers finally just meet his figure.
09:33They keep him in Pittsburgh for life and you know, he's just a Steeler, right? And he's not going
09:38anywhere. That's what I would probably lean towards happening. The most likely outcome, but you never
09:44know what these things, you know, guys can get pissed off. We saw Myles Garrett have a change of
09:48heart and go back to Cleveland, even though he knows he's not winning anything. And it'll be
09:52interesting to see how Pittsburgh approaches this situation. But give me your thoughts down below.
09:56Do you think the Eagles should try to go in for one of the best defensive players in the league
10:01based on what it would cost to get them? Or should they just rely on their draft capabilities?
10:06Give me your thoughts down below. Appreciate everybody for tapping in. Be sure to like,
10:09comment and subscribe. And as always, I'll catch you on the next one.
10:14I'll catch you on the next one.
