Free Agent Frenzy has finally cooled off, but the Eagles are always up to something. Today, we react to a proposed mock trade involving the Eagles & Lions. Not only would trading this player help the construction of the roster in the present, but it would also signal a mindset shift moving forward that we are already seeing implemented by Howie Roseman and the front office. In other news, another Eagles Super Bowl champion is heading elsewhere. Today, RB discusses all of this and more!

00:00So free agency has finally cooled off,
00:03but the Philadelphia Eagles never stopped working.
00:06And today we have a proposed mock trade that would send
00:09one of the Eagles highest paid players to an NFC juggernaut.
00:13The question is, should they actually pull the trigger?
00:15Well, we'll go over all the details of the trade,
00:17but I think this move would not only change the landscape
00:20of the current team for years to come,
00:22but it would represent an overall mindset shift
00:26that we are currently seeing implemented.
00:28So we'll get into it all and talk about
00:30when we could potentially see this happen.
00:32We'll break it down, but welcome into A to Z Philly.
00:34I'm RB, do me a favor, like this video,
00:36go down below and subscribe to the channel.
00:39Help us continue to grow.
00:40You know, the Eagles are just such a special team.
00:42Like this year, this franchise's 2024-25 Eagles
00:48will forever be remembered, man.
00:50They were so special.
00:51And the crazy part about it is that they're being built
00:53to go back and do it again this next season.
00:56It's been a very interesting off-season so far,
00:59but I think we are seeing the blueprint laid out
01:02for the grand master plan laid out by Howie Roseman.
01:05Now, we'll start it off with a team
01:07that doesn't have any grand master plan,
01:09and that is the New York Giants,
01:10who have signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal.
01:13Right, we're hearing about Russell Wilson,
01:15we're hearing about Aaron Rodgers.
01:17Rodgers goes and visits with Pittsburgh,
01:19then he probably went on like a darkness retreat
01:21and got high or something, I don't know.
01:22And the Giants thought it was a great, wonderful idea
01:26to sign Jameis Winston.
01:27No knock on Jameis, right?
01:29He's still a serviceable quarterback.
01:31You know, he's a really good guy.
01:33He's matured a lot during his career.
01:35He's funny, his personality is must-see TV.
01:38But we were literally at Super Bowl Media Week
01:40watching Saquon get asked by Jameis, where should I sign?
01:45Saquon told him the Giants.
01:46Saquon is the gift that never stops giving.
01:49And he sent Jameis Winston to the New York Giants.
01:53They gave him a two-year, $8 million deal.
01:55Every time I think I can get a good laugh
01:56from the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants just swoop right in.
01:59The Cowboys are like the same original joke
02:02that's still funny, but it doesn't hit
02:03the same way it did the first time.
02:05You know, whereas the Giants just keep on doing things
02:08like this that make me laugh.
02:10And even if the Giants go out and draft a quarterback,
02:13which they probably will now,
02:14I still think they're going to play Jameis Winston
02:17on day one, because that is how incompetent
02:20that organization is.
02:21And I'm gonna laugh all the way to the bank
02:23when the Eagles go out there and eviscerate them,
02:25force them into a ton of bad throws.
02:28Two easy wins coming up on the schedule next year.
02:31But let's talk about a Philadelphia Eagle
02:35that is headed on his way out.
02:36And speaking of the Detroit Lions,
02:38which we'll get into here in a few minutes,
02:40they have signed away Avante Maddox on a one-year deal.
02:44Avante is a Detroit native, so he goes home.
02:47And believe it or not, you know,
02:48he feels like he's older, but he's only 28.
02:50And I give a lot of credit.
02:51I tip my cap to Avante Maddox,
02:54because this guy was a pro's pro.
02:57Speaking of Super Bowl media week,
02:58we heard Christian Parker, the Eagles DB's coach,
03:01talk about Avante Maddox in a really good, praising manner.
03:05He said that he was one of the best players
03:07he's ever coached in his entire life.
03:09And you think about Avante.
03:10I mean, at one point, I thought this guy
03:12was gonna switch from nickel corner to safety
03:14and just be the future safety of the team.
03:17But then he had like five, six, seven injuries
03:19that racked up over a couple years.
03:22Then he was cut two or three times.
03:23He was benched this year, and he never complained.
03:25He just did his job, did his role.
03:27And I'm super happy that after seven years
03:30with this franchise, after being a fourth-round pick,
03:32he goes in and makes one of the biggest plays
03:34in the Super Bowl on a fourth down stop,
03:37and he ends up getting a ring.
03:38So very, very happy for Avante Maddox,
03:41and I wish him the best in his future.
03:43But we have to stay on the Detroit Lions,
03:46because they have been linked in a potential trade
03:49with our Philadelphia Eagles.
03:52Here's a report that came out a couple weeks ago.
03:54We already talked about this, right?
03:55Jordan Schultz said the Eagles were open to trade talks
03:58involving Dallas Goddard and Bryce Huff.
04:00Still don't know what's going on with Goddard,
04:02but Bryce Huff is starting to make some airways, okay?
04:05And here was the proposed trade
04:06that was put out by Bleacher Report.
04:09The Lions would receive Bryce Huff,
04:11and the Eagles would receive a fourth-round pick
04:13and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft.
04:18What do we think?
04:20Let me know your thoughts down below.
04:22Is Bryce Huff going to be a Philadelphia Eagle
04:26in this upcoming season?
04:28Now, Bryce Huff put this on his own Instagram story
04:31a couple weeks ago.
04:32It was a guy holding up a poster
04:35that says the beginning is near.
04:37What does he mean, a new beginning?
04:39Does he mean he's on his way out?
04:40I mean, I can't blame him if he does, all right?
04:42And if we go over and look at this article
04:45where this proposed trade was put out,
04:47let's talk about this, right?
04:49Vic Fangio used Bryce Huff very sparingly.
04:53He only played over 47% of the snaps
04:56in only three of his 12 appearances,
04:59and he did not suit up for the Super Bowl.
05:02He got his ring, he did what he had to do, got a bag.
05:05But right now, it seems like it's going to be very smart
05:08to move on from Bryce Huff.
05:10Eagles signed the Memphis product
05:11to a sizable deal a year ago.
05:13He has a $7.5 million cap number this year
05:16and no guaranteed money left on the deal after 2025.
05:21Now, let's look at a little bit
05:22of a breakdown from that, okay?
05:24Shout out to Jake Rabbiteye here on Twitter
05:27putting this out.
05:28Per Eagles Xs and Os on Twitter who did the math,
05:31if Bryce Huff is traded today,
05:33the Eagles will incur a dead cap charge of $12.9 million.
05:38His current cap hit is $7.5 million.
05:41So if you subtract the two,
05:42you get a loss of $5.4 million cap space in 2025.
05:47However, there's a bunch of intricacies here.
05:50If there's a guaranteed option bonus
05:52and there's other stuff, could be more.
05:55But it was originally being reported
05:56that there was a dead cap hit of $29 million.
05:59That's why in the last week or two,
06:01some people were saying there's no way in heck
06:03how he's going to get off Bryce Huff.
06:04But according to Eagles Xs and Os here,
06:07the loss on the cap space would only be 5.4 million.
06:10So where does that take my mind?
06:13Well, I think the Eagles are kind of waiting
06:16and seeing what they do in the draft.
06:18Do they go with an edge early?
06:19Do they go in the first couple rounds?
06:21I'm sure they will.
06:23And that is exactly why the Eagles
06:25need to trade Bryce Huff.
06:27Now, the cap is a very confusing thing.
06:29And for somebody that also covers basketball,
06:32it's like trying to rewire your brain.
06:34It's two different things.
06:35And how he does cap magic,
06:37he reworks these things in so many different ways.
06:41It's like void years and bonuses,
06:43and he just knows how to manipulate it perfectly.
06:45That's why he's so damn good at his job.
06:47But if this is true,
06:49and the Philadelphia Eagles can get off of Bryce Huff,
06:52and they can find a team,
06:53even if it's the Detroit Lions
06:55who are willing to take on Bryce Huff,
06:57I think they have to do it.
06:58And I think it speaks to more of a mindset shift, right?
07:03As it says here in the article,
07:04the Philadelphia Eagles had to sit
07:07their highest-paid player in the Super Bowl
07:10as a healthy scratch.
07:12Now, I'm not saying he's washed.
07:13I'm not saying he's the worst player in the world.
07:15He's still in his mid-20s.
07:16He's very young.
07:18But Bryce Huff making $17 million per year
07:21on a team where his skillset is not maximized, right?
07:25If he goes somewhere else,
07:26I'm sure he can be a serviceable player.
07:28But you think about the system,
07:30the philosophy that Vic Fangio has built,
07:33and it's like there's just no meeting in the middle.
07:35Bryce Huff is not fit for Vic Fangio's system.
07:39Even go back the year before when the Eagles signed him,
07:41Bryce Huff had a double-digit sack year
07:44for the New York Jets,
07:45but he was more of a pass rush specialist.
07:47He still didn't play a lot of snaps with the New York Jets.
07:51He was more of a third-down pass rusher,
07:53and he's not really stout at being able to stop the run.
07:56And to be in Vic Fangio's system,
07:58you have to be versatile, you have to be dynamic,
08:01and really good at everything.
08:03Honestly, it made me respect Vic Fangio a lot
08:05because early on, he was benching Bryce Huff.
08:09He wasn't one of those coaches that just says,
08:11hey, you're the highest-paid player on the cap sheet,
08:14so you have to play the most snaps.
08:15No, he went and did what optimized the team.
08:19And you look at the Philadelphia Eagles
08:21snap counts this year,
08:23I mean, Bryce Huff only played a total of 27% of the snaps.
08:27And honestly, that number is kind of inflated
08:30because you think about the last game of the season
08:32where he played over 80% of the snaps,
08:34and like the article said, he only had three games this year
08:37where he played over, what, 45% of the snaps?
08:39The guy did not fit the system.
08:42I understand the Eagles lost a couple defensive linemen,
08:44they're gonna need some edge rushers,
08:46but honestly, I just don't see it working here
08:48with Bryce Huff.
08:49I think he's kind of off the ship at this point.
08:52He started to get a little bit of momentum
08:54late in the season, then he got hurt again,
08:56and like I said, he just never fit the mold.
08:58So I think what Harry Roseman is going to do
09:01is go in the draft and say,
09:02hey, I just showed that the formula worked, right?
09:05I drafted Jalex Hunt the year before I drafted Nolan Smith.
09:08I know how to draft these guys from the good schools,
09:11and these guys are going to save me money
09:13because I won't have to pay them for a couple years.
09:16So I think he's gonna go out,
09:17draft a couple more in this draft,
09:19and find a way to move on from Bryce Huff.
09:21And I think it makes total sense.
09:23And overall, again, it kind of embodies that mindset shift
09:27where the Eagles are just trying to get younger
09:29and not have to worry about paying all these guys
09:31at the same time and not have the James Bradbury's
09:35and the Bryce Huff's of the world
09:36on the contract books for the next couple years.
09:39So that's where I'm at with that.
09:41Give me your thoughts down below.
09:43Lastly, a quick shout out to Devante Smith.
09:46He was on this 7 p.m. in Brooklyn podcast.
09:49Here's a quote about Jalen Hurts.
09:50He says, when we talk to each other like that,
09:52we feed off of one another's energy.
09:54Jalen Hurts loves when we tell him what we're seeing
09:56and people think it's us getting on him,
09:58but it's not, showing that Jalen Hurts
10:00knows how to take criticism
10:01and has a good relationship with his receivers,
10:03which we all know, but the outside world tries
10:05to paint it in a different picture.
10:08Also, Devante literally utters the same quote
10:10Jalen had this year.
10:12Just because we didn't pass the ball last season
10:14doesn't mean we could not pass the ball.
10:17It's just about utilizing what is most effective.
10:20And I love that these guys are on the same page.
10:22And I love even like that clip after the Super Bowl
10:24where AJ and Jalen come together and just have that moment.
10:28I mean, it just shows a lot of maturity from these guys.
10:30And I'm sure it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows,
10:33but they're professionals, they want to win,
10:35and they're locked in.
10:36And lastly, just to speak on the whole vibe
10:38of this off season with a lot of guys like AJ Brown
10:41saying they're not satisfied,
10:42Devante Smith agrees with AJ Brown
10:45that winning a Super Bowl is eh,
10:47but he says there is no better feeling
10:49than seeing a defensive back look defeated.
10:51So this guy's pure domination.
10:53He has achieved so much in his mid-20s.
10:56I mean, a Heisman, a National Championship,
10:58and a Super Bowl, and he's always been the underdog here
11:02because of AJ Brown, except for that first year.
11:04But shout out to Devante, shout out to the Birds.
11:06We'll see what happens moving forward.
11:08I love this team.
11:09And I think they're destined to go back for another one.
11:12So give me all your thoughts down below
11:14in the comment section.
11:15As always, appreciate everybody for tapping in.
11:17Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe.
11:19And I'll catch you all in the next one.
11:20I'll catch you all in the next one.
