The Eagles re-signed All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun to a 3-year deal worth $17 million annually. While Howie Roseman retained the biggest priority before the opening of free agency, he certainly isn't done yet. Today, we get a report about another Eagle that could have interest in re-signing with the Super Bowl champs. In other news, a bit of Eagles social media drama has the fanbase picking sides... but it ultimately doesn't matter. Today, RB discusses all of this and more!

00:00The Philadelphia Eagles are winning free agency before free agency even begins and I'm here
00:07to tell you that they are not done yet.
00:09Howie Houdini has a couple more tricks up the sleeve, including another big re-signing
00:14that could be on the way very soon.
00:17We'll talk about that and the Eagles have a little bit of drama in the locker room,
00:21but I'm here to tell you why it does not matter.
00:24We'll get into it all, but welcome into A to Z Philly.
00:27I'm RB.
00:28Do me a favor.

00:32You can check me out on my socials at RBPhillyTake, but I cover the birds every single day and
00:38of course yesterday, as soon as I was out for the day, boom, they make another move.
00:43Let me tell you something, ladies and gentlemen, the last three days they've made big moves
00:47when I'm not home.
00:48So maybe I need to go on a road trip or something, but nonetheless, Howie is working, all right?
00:55And as you probably have all heard by now, I did make a quick reaction reel in the car
01:01on the road, but the Eagles re-signed all pro linebackers, Zach Bond, to a three year
01:06$51 million contract.
01:08They keep around their guy and Zach Bond is the only player in the NFL to have 30 plus
01:14tackles, two plus INTs and a forced fumble in a single postseason.
01:20He's also the first player to have 150 plus tackles and five forced fumbles in a season.
01:27I mean, from a numbers standpoint, this makes all the sense in the world.
01:31The guy was absolutely unbelievable, right?
01:33Insane story.
01:34He comes over from New Orleans as a special teamers.
01:37You move them to inside linebacker, Vic Fangio sees a little something in them.
01:41And from what a minimum contract to $17 million per year, all pro Superbowl champion.
01:48But beyond the numbers, if you go back and you watch the mic'd up version of the Superbowl,
01:54just hearing the guy's leadership, just hearing how much of a good personality and just an
01:58energy, a vibes bringer he is to this team, I mean, it's just the right move.
02:03And it speaks to me beyond the move itself.
02:07It tells me two things about Howie Roseman, okay?
02:10Number one is that he lives and he learns and he watches others and he learns as well.
02:17If you go back a year ago to the Giants and the mistake they made in letting Saquon go
02:21out and talk to teams and hit the free agent market, you would have known that, hey, there's
02:26a chance here that Zach Bond goes and talks to one of the worst teams and gets a huge
02:31massive deal and never returns, right?
02:34So Howie Roseman looked at a couple other situations and said, there is absolutely no
02:40way that I can let Zach Bond go.
02:43There was that video that surfaced a month ago where he was talking them up.
02:48Howie Roseman was not going to let Zach Bond leave.
02:50He made it the priority and that speaks to number two for me is that Howie Roseman is
02:56just so situationally aware of everything going on and I really do think that he listens
03:01in to some of the local outlets, whether it's radio, podcasts, whatever.
03:07He never used to do that and he was heavily criticized, but if you notice over the years,
03:12the players that he's brought in, the players that Eagle fans love and want to see, I mean,
03:17he's really kind of like aligned himself with the fan base.
03:20Now I'm not saying that he should do that all the time and that he needs to listen to
03:24the fans to do his job because he's obviously a highly ranked executive and individual,
03:30but you know, when there are these players and there are these obvious moves that sometimes
03:34teams overthink, it's like Howie always makes the right decision and you know, Zach Bond,
03:40I mean, the guy was incredible.
03:42You get him at 17 a year, he's the fourth highest paid linebacker now.
03:45I mean, you know, obviously it's a high price tag.
03:48He's 28 years old and this is his first big contract.
03:51You could also look at it as, hey, he's fresh, but nonetheless, even let's say the last year
03:56that deal ends up bad, Howie did not let him go out and get 20 a year from some team that
04:01was willing to overpay.
04:02So the free agency period doesn't open up until next Wednesday, tampering periods on
04:07Monday and he made that the priority to get it done.
04:10And here are some of the extensions that he's made over the past couple of years and just
04:14incredible work by Howie to lock these guys in, um, you know, even earlier than expected.
04:19Even with Saquon the other day, it's just brilliant GM work and I think he's done so
04:23well in this area for a long time, but also he's gotten so much better in the balancing
04:29act, right?
04:3013 draft picks in the top three rounds from 21 to 24.
04:34Look at these names, man.
04:35I mean, he has been automatic on every single player and I think nowadays, you know, given
04:42the salary cap restraints, when you can balance the young players and the prospects and let
04:46them contribute now, like the Eagles did this year, but also have that ability to sign those
04:52vets and, you know, find those hidden gems.
04:55I mean, look at the team that you can create.
04:57Now another player that the Eagles probably are going to try to bring back, even I don't
05:02know if it's possible now is Makai Becton.
05:05However, this certainly helps.
05:06All right.
05:07Brandon Lee Gallatin of Bleeding Green Nation puts out an article and reports that Makai
05:12Becton prefers to return to the Philadelphia Eagles.
05:17And if we go over to this article, he says here, I'm told the preference for Becton is
05:22to re-sign with the Eagles and free agency as he is comfortable with the franchise that
05:27helped him reclaim his career.
05:29However, it's a matter of whether Philly can fit him in the budget.
05:33It may take a while for Becton to sign with the team.
05:35Hence, I don't see something happening immediately once free agency opens.
05:40Now, you know, there's a lot of situations like this over the years, right?
05:44Guys take hometown discounts.
05:46If he doesn't want to take one, I'm not mad at him, right?
05:48He got his ring.
05:49He revived his career.
05:51Maybe a team's willing to pay him, you know, 10 times with the Eagles or I don't know.
05:56There are desperate teams out there that need offensive line help and especially when you
06:00look at how the Eagles were so dominant in the trenches, maybe a team's willing to invest
06:05more in that now.
06:06But nonetheless, I think Becton reclaiming his career is very important, right?
06:10They called him a bust with the Jets.
06:12They said he was fat and lazy and that he would never make anything of his career.
06:17And he comes here and here's the quote that he had earlier this season about this Eagles
06:21team.
06:22Quote, the offensive line bleeped the whole team.
06:24And they welcomed me as if I've been here for my whole career.
06:28It's just made things easier to just have people that put their arm around you and say,
06:32Hey, come on, you got it.
06:33We're here with you.
06:34You don't have to do it alone.
06:36You don't have to go through anything alone.
06:38So you know, he's had many comments and interviews and press conferences about Jeff Stoutland
06:44and he loves the way that, you know, his magic just gets put onto these guys and they become
06:49pro bowl guards and tackles and centers.
06:52So, you know, I would not be surprised if Becton's willing to take a little bit of a
06:56pay cut to stay here because there's something about really having that love for your craft
07:00and being able to, you know, find that again.
07:03And I think he has that here.
07:04I really do.
07:05And I think as long as the Eagles don't cut his pay in half and try to, you know, cheap
07:09them out.
07:10I mean, I, these were real tears he had after the super bowl.
07:13So I think he'll want to stay here and I think that's your next big priority.
07:16I'm not ready to put the crown on Howie for the whole off season, but the fact he's making
07:21these moves already and we're not even at free agency yet, right?
07:24The Saquon extension, you know, cutting slay, apparently they might be able to bring them
07:28back getting rid of Bradbury and now they're trying to get Becton back.
07:32Who knows what's happens, you know, with Milton Williams and Josh Swett.
07:36But I feel like guys in the trenches like that are much more replaceable than a Zach
07:40Bowen.
07:41Like Zach Bowen is the commander in chief of the defense.
07:44He's the leader.
07:45He runs everything.
07:47And Howie Roseman did not make the same mistake that he did two years ago by letting TJ Edwards
07:52walk to the bears and he had a tremendous season the next year.
07:56Another guy's Isaiah Rogers and what a quote by Isaiah Rogers here on Twitter.
07:59He says, when I'm driving, I wonder if people understand they just drove by a super bowl
08:04champion.
08:05I love it, man.
08:06I love it.
08:07He's confident.
08:08He's happy in himself.
08:09And, um, this guy might be able to come back and have a chance for a starting job here
08:13in Philly.
08:14Again, just great work from Howie to even pick him up for nothing when he was suspended.
08:19Now, lastly, just want to highlight there's a drama going on today with the Eagles locker
08:26room, I guess, or, or, you know, things that were said.
08:29And honestly, this is why I said earlier in the season that it's not always a good thing
08:34to have these players doing their podcasts and media stuff.
08:37And now, you know, almost trying to be the new media in a way, some of it's very good,
08:42but some of it leads to stuff like this, where Darius Slay on his own podcast was talking
08:47one about the Eagle secondary and who the leader will be if he ends up leaving.
08:52And he said, re-blankenship being around me and a lot of vets, I'm sure he could lead
08:56that group the right way.
08:58That's who I feel would be leading the group.
09:00If I'm not in the building, he's a great damn leader.
09:02Now he was trying to give re-blankenship a lot of credit here and say that he believes
09:07in them.
09:08At the same time, CJ Gardner Johnson apparently took it offensive or people on Twitter are
09:13now debating and discussing.
09:16And these tweets were ended up deleted in just a couple hours.
09:19But CJ went on a whole rant, a whole vent about him and Quinion and Cooper and, you
09:26know, re-blankenship and I, he's not putting anybody down, but he says last vet that replaced
09:30me helped you all get to the door in the wild card round.
09:33And, you know, CJ's went at it before with the Eagles fans.
09:36I just don't like all the drama.
09:38And honestly, I don't care.
09:39This team is Superbowl champions.
09:41They won.
09:42Who cares about what they're saying here on their podcast?
09:45Now the other thing that set it over the ledge a little bit was Darius Slay saying that Joe
09:50Burrow, Pat Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen are the elite quarterbacks, and he didn't
09:55put Jalen Hurts in that list.
09:57Now, again, the good thing here is that they already won the Superbowl.
10:01There's nothing left to prove with this season with this cast, but Darius Slay may be on
10:05the way out as well.
10:07So if he is, you know, it is what it is.
10:09Thank you for your service and, you know, go play one more year elsewhere earlier in
10:13the season.
10:14I said that he shouldn't be on a podcast during an Eagles Cowboys week with Micah Parsons.
10:19He blocked me on Twitter.
10:20He blocked anybody that had that opinion.
10:23And you know, again, these are some of the reasons as to why this stuff gets in the way
10:28a little bit, just a little bit.
10:29Do I think this is going to mess up the chemistry in the locker room?
10:32No, but guys talk about these things.
10:34If A.J. Brown was responding on Twitter, going at the Eagles community, then he deleted
10:39his tweets.
10:40It's just too much drama back and forth from these players, you know, talking about these
10:44other players and their teammates.
10:46So anyway, at the end of the day, I don't care one bit.
10:50Slay can say whatever he wants, whether he's here or not.
10:52We'll see what happens.
10:53Jalen Hurts is an elite quarterback.
10:55This is an elite team, and they're coming back trying to win again next season.
10:59But the next priority is to get Mekhi Becton back.
11:02If they cannot bring him back, if they cannot bring Sweat and Milton Williams back, I think
11:08Howie will do a very good job in the draft and just bring in a couple more mammoths into
11:13this building.
11:14So those are my thoughts.
11:15Give me yours down below.
11:16How do you feel about the bond resigning and who do you think's next?
11:19Give me your thoughts.
11:20Appreciate everybody for tapping in.
11:22Be sure to like, comment and subscribe, and I'll catch you on the next one.
