00:18Operation aimed at fighting drug trafficking and organized crime.
00:31Russia and Cuba signed agreements on cooperation in health and science within the framework
00:36of the 65th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
00:47And the Palestinian Prisoners' Club denounced on Friday that Israeli prison authorities
00:53have increased torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian detainees since the end of the
00:57ceasefire in Gaza on March 18.
01:01Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the TELESUR headquarters
01:12in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:14We begin with the news this week of…
01:30In Venezuela, the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, held a press
01:34conference to report on the progress of the Catatumbo Lighting Operation aimed at fighting
01:41drug trafficking and organized crime.
01:44Precisely, Cabello informed on the seizure of 16,308 kilos of cocaine from Colombia,
01:50adding that the detainees made confessions that allow locating the drug trafficking roads
01:54and seas of boats.
01:56Furthermore, the Minister denounced the role of the extreme right-wing opposition in financing
02:01this operation, fabricating lies regarding crimes in the country, and promoting a false
02:07flag operation to incriminate the armed forces.
02:11He also informed that more than 400 aircraft have been destroyed since Venezuela broke
02:16off relations with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
02:27Adding it all up to 9,000 in the following operations, 9,866 from before, plus the 6,441
02:37that I am announcing now, gives a total of 16,308 kilos and 10 grams of cocaine of the
02:44highest purity.
02:47On Friday morning, 208 Venezuelan migrants arrived in the country as part of the Back
02:52to the Homeland Plan.
02:53With this flight, there are now more than 2,000 Venezuelan nationals that have returned
02:59in 2025 through the humanitarian plan that provides dignity and security.
03:03This is the third flight of migrants landing in the country in the past two days.
03:07It is known that the migrants who arrived in a U.S. plane will go through a process
03:11of criminal and medical check and then be taken home directly.
03:16Let us remember that these migrants who have returned to the country in the last few weeks
03:20have been victims of the fascist plan of the U.S. government, which is developing a plan
03:25of persecution and kidnapping against Venezuelans who are in U.S. soil.
03:39In the United States, a federal judge ruled on Friday that Marilyn Vatter, who was mistakenly
03:43deported to the prison in El Salvador, must be returned to the U.S. by Monday, April 7.
03:49Quilmar Abrego Garcia was deported to a Supermax prison on March 15, despite a prediction
03:55order granted in 2019 that should have kept him from being sent to El Salvador.
04:02He filed a lawsuit against several federal officials demanding to be returned to the
04:07U.S.
04:08The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials blamed an administrative error and
04:14an overseaship for the Abrego Garcia deportation but did not take actions to rectify the mistake.
04:21They argued that the federal government does not have jurisdiction since Abrego Garcia
04:26is in custody of the El Salvador government and maintains that Abrego Garcia is yours
04:33to the community due to the illogical ties.
04:36Abrego Garcia's lawyers have said in court documents that he has no criminal records,
04:42a finding that the government has not contested.
04:52Panamanian teachers' trade unions have rejected the privatization of social security funds
04:58and demand improvements in that system on the second day of their national strike.
05:04On Thursday, April 3, these unions, which gather over 35,000 educators, opposed to the
05:10reform of the social security fund.
05:13Subsequently, educational calls for an indefinite strike as they had no received response from
05:19the government.
05:20In this context, at least six people were reportedly arrested in Panama on Thursday
05:31for demonstrating against the recently approved law of the social security fund.
05:37Two leaders were detained by the national police in the city of Colón while the other
05:41arrests occurred in the area of Catiba.
05:44In this regard, the teachers' unions, the presence of the national police at the mobilization,
05:49have fallen at an act of intimidation.

09:57reached at the 24th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance, held on December 14 in Caracas,
10:02and were associated to the 2030 Strategic Agenda.
10:13The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, affirmed that America is seeking new opportunities
10:17with the tariffs imposed by the U.S.
10:19The Colombian President explained that his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, is coherent
10:23with his national tariff formula, which seeks to develop domestic production.
10:27However, he will have to lower the interest rate in dollars.
10:31In this context, he explained that if the interest rate is high, there will be no productive
10:36investments in the world and that a recessive wave will emerge.
10:41He also added that capitalism in the U.S. now seeks to move towards that kind of national
10:47monopolization of commerce.
10:49The U.S. 10 percent tariff threatens to aggravate the economic crisis in Haiti, putting thousands

11:13to trade agreements such as HOPE and HELP.
11:16These agreements have been instrumental in allowing Haiti to export products duty-free
11:21in 2023.
11:22Closed-in exports account for more than 80 percent of the total supported dozens of jobs
11:28in the country.
11:39U.S. banking fall after China's response to President Donald Trump's tariff ward.
