JP and BMitch reflect on one of the biggest acquisitions of the Commanders offseason.
Transcript
00:00You gave up a lot to solidify your left tackle spot, right?
00:04Well, you've got a young quarterback
00:05and that's your most important thing.
00:07And you are going to have to pay Tunsell.
00:08Maybe it happens this summer.
00:10Maybe it's not till next year,
00:11but you're going to have to pay him.
00:13But this move is not a one for one.
00:16They didn't just shore up left tackle.
00:18If Brandon Coleman beats out Andrew Wiley at right tackle,
00:23then you've improved two positions.
00:25Or if they get through camp or even OTAs
00:28and they realize, listen, man, we love Coleman.
00:31Maybe people are right and he will be better as a guard.
00:34And then he replaces Cosby till Cosby's ready.
00:37And then he goes to Allegretti's spot.
00:40Like, it's entirely possible this move,
00:42Brandon Coleman to me,
00:44showed that he is an NFL offensive lineman.
00:48Now, he might've also showed
00:51that he's not necessarily a left tackle,
00:53but that doesn't mean he can't help you
00:55elsewhere on the line.
00:56I also say this, Jay.
00:56I think, just like we were talking about
01:00being too soon to judge Dylan
01:05Cruz.
01:06Cruz.
01:06All right.
01:08That dude played a whole year at left tackle as a rookie.
01:13Which guys that's been in the league five, six, seven years
01:17have, they struggle at left tackle.
01:19And we say that those guys are great.
01:21He was a rookie stepping in here.
01:23I think he did a remarkable job
01:25and could develop to be a great one.
01:28But if they can get somebody
01:32better, like a tonsil,
01:34and then you move it to another position
01:35where he can now stand up where
01:37he's not playing the toughest position in sports.
01:40You know what I mean?
01:41On the offensive line.
01:43He's passed that test.
01:45It wasn't like he was a first rounder.
01:48You know, he steps in and I think he played very good
01:51as a rookie and better than I've seen some left tackles
01:54that have been around for a long time play.
01:56I think at various moments, he was very good.
02:00And then I think some injuries piled up.
02:02He also hit a rookie wall.
02:03Like I think his second half of the season
02:06didn't touch the first
02:07and that should kind of be expected.
02:10But that's the thing that goes down with even guys.
02:12We watch guys once they get injured
02:14and they've been playing 10 years,
02:15they look worse in the second half.
02:16But my point with the tonsil thing is
02:20I don't consider it just a trade for tonsil.
02:22I think tonsil makes you way better
02:24at left tackle right away
02:26and helps you figure out the rest of your O-line
02:29taking the whole group up a notch.
02:31So I'm with you.
02:32I think it's an A.
02:33I think you got a lot.
02:36You're gonna have to pay them.
02:37That's the way of the world.
02:38Good teams pay good players.
02:40I think if you look at the two big trades,
02:45honestly, the three big trades they've made at this point,
02:48the Lattimore one is the one with the most pressure on it
02:50to perform.
02:51And that's, you gotta hope their health evaluation
02:55can be proven correct.
02:56True.
