00:00Coleman, who, you know, rookie season gave you a lot at that spot and yep, probably moving
00:05now.
00:06Yes.
00:07What's the plan there?
00:08He'll go to the right time.
00:09Tackle?
00:10Yes.
00:11Wiley kick in.
00:12Yeah, you're getting way too far down the line.
00:13Like, yeah.
00:14We've got a lot of practice to go still.
00:15So, but yeah, he'll go on, on the right side.
00:20But as far as tackler guard, we'll start at tackle, you know, that's where he's got lots
00:25of experience at and we'll go there first.
00:27So that's, that's the plan.
00:29With Stan Quinn from the owners meetings today in Palm Beach, welcome back to Grant and Danny
00:34on the fan.
00:35Remember in 12 minutes, Craig Lachlan, Caps TV going to join us.
00:39They've got a huge game in Boston tonight.
00:41Not only the great chase being on Ovi, five goals away from Wayne Gretzky, but well, four
00:47goals from Gretzky, five goals from passing him.
00:50But Ryan Leonard's making his debut, the highly anticipated prospect who just got eliminated
00:54from the college tourney at Boston college.
00:56So he's going to make the leap from college hockey to the national hockey league with
01:00the capitals at 20 years old.
01:01As most people do.
01:02Right.
01:03Isn't that a standard thing?
01:04We'll talk to locker about that coming up at three o'clock, four o'clock today, a little
01:08over an hour and 10 minutes from now, we will have a chance for you to win a pair of tickets.
01:14And these are tickets that you can choose what you want to see with pretty cool opportunity.
01:19Wolf trap, pick your own show tickets.
01:22We're giving those away at four o'clock on the fan.
01:25Before we get there, you just heard from DQ on the way in there, Quinn saying, we're moving
01:31Brandon Coleman to right tackle.
01:33There's been a lot of speculation that Coleman would kick right inside the left guard that
01:37we don't have to flip sides and kind of do the mirror drills that you have to do all
01:41off season to relearn footwork and things.
01:43But he's been a tackle way longer than he's been a guard in college.
01:48He played a lot of tackle, played plenty of guard too, but Quinn and the commanders want
01:54him to be on the right side.
01:55And I will say that if you draft the right tackle in the third round and you get a franchise
02:00guy who's there for 10 years, that's an amazing win.
02:03And it's even more value, frankly, than drafting a guard.
02:06That's about where you should find a guard.
02:08That's still a really significant like overdraft.
02:13If you get a tackle there, that the war, so to speak, the value of a third round win at
02:18right tackle way bigger than at right guard agreed.
02:21So my goal setting out this off season is if I had something to do with it, but my hope
02:25was let's improve three offensive line spots that can be done with only a couple of personnel
02:32moves because Brandon Coleman was going to improve potentially two spots.
02:36I think they could do better at right tackle.
02:38See Andrew Wiley.
02:39I think they could do better at left guard.
02:40See Nick Allegretti.
02:41I had Coleman penciled in if they found a left tackle for one of those two spots, they
02:46found a left tackle.
02:47You may have heard about that move.
02:48So now you have Coleman replacing one of those other two guys.
02:51If they think he can do it and this and they called their shot, they were right about him
02:56initially.
02:57A guy that half the league or more thought was a guard, but pretty adequately pretty
03:00plus even at times at left tackle.
03:02If he can be your right tackle, my goodness, you have found something pretty special there.
03:06You have upgraded two spots with one major move, which is hard to do.
03:10So that tells me then that if Wiley's not your right tackle and there's an if here,
03:14he basically says we need to see if he could do it.
03:16We're going to try him there first, meaning there's a chance he doesn't like the right
03:20side or know that it isn't comfortable to him and they put him at left guard and supplant
03:23Allegretti.
03:24And then maybe he'd have to move over to right guard until Cosme comes back.
03:27But I think the way I take this is tonsil at left tackle Coleman at right tackle.
03:33Wiley then moves inside the right guard where he played a bunch in Kansas City has not played
03:37at all here over a few years.
03:39So it's been some time, but I would think you could do it at tackle.
03:41You could do it at guard for the most part as a veteran who's got experience there.
03:44And then Allegretti actually stays, put it left guard for now, because remember, you
03:48don't have Cosme for several weeks, maybe a couple of months at minimum.
03:52When everybody's healthy, now you've got a debate and how everyone's playing and what
03:56they look like and are they 100 percent?
03:58All that's going to factor in.
03:59But when everybody's healthy, I would think then Wiley and Cosme in pencil would be your
04:05starters.
04:06Allegretti would be the first man off the bench.
04:08But maybe if Allegretti is playing really well and Cosme has had some issues, he becomes
04:12a backup.
04:13But it just gives you depth that you have not really had.
04:16Whereas last year, Wiley's your tackle.
04:19Maybe now he ends up on your bench because you've gotten better on the outside at both
04:22spots.
04:23This was the rest of what Quinn had to say about the offensive line.
04:26The addition of Laramie and playing out at tackle, he's had such experience and done
04:31it at a high level.
04:32And so when you can add somebody of that caliber, that's a big deal.
04:36And so adding him right now into our mix, we're really pumped out.
04:41We can't wait to get him here.
04:42It's going to be a fun group to coach.
04:43These are, you know, like the guys we've added, Adam and his staff did an excellent job.
04:48We were very specific about the commanders and who we wanted to have as part of this.
04:53And so Laramie, he's an ideal fit for us.
04:57So we joke when we're grading food or we talk sometimes on the show about the 20-80 scouting
05:03scale in baseball, right?
05:05And the idea is you could simplify it down even more, a two to eight scale.
05:10But five is average.
05:12What would be a 50?
05:13But five is just dead average.
05:16So 45 is a little bit below average.
05:1740 is below average.
05:1935 is well below average.
05:2230 is bad.
05:23You know, that's the idea.
05:2460 is plus.
05:2570 is elite.
05:2680 is top of the scale.
05:27So on a two to eight, I go through and I say, you've got a seven left tackle now, seven
05:32and a half left tackle in Laramie Tunsell probably.
05:36I think Brandon Coleman has the potential to be an awesome right tackle.
05:40He played pretty well at times at left tackle.
05:43There's no reason he can't be a six, six and a half right tackle in my opinion, based on
05:47what I've seen.
05:48That's the ceiling.
05:49It doesn't mean it's a lot, but you could potentially have two well above average plus
05:52or better, one elite, one plus tackles.
05:55We saw Biotish last year.
05:57I would say he was a six center, wouldn't you?
05:59Like he was a well above average player.
06:00For sure.
06:02The guards I'm not as convinced on, Cosme been a six at his best, you need him healthy.
06:06For now, Allegretti's maybe a 45, a 50.
06:09I think, you know, Wiley as a tackle was a 40, 45, a lot, maybe a 50 at his best.
06:16I don't know what he'd be at guard, but I guess my point is they've got two really good
06:19tackles.
06:20If Coleman hits, they've got a really good center.
06:23So now if I'm filling it out, like the way I'd want to in a Madden game, I would start
06:27with tackle center, tackle, and then worry about the guards precisely.
06:31And now that you, now you've got some upside, a tackle getting kicked in usually performs
06:35better than vice versa, right?
06:37Like that's, we've got some pretty good data over the years to that.
06:41So having Cosme be uncertain, and that's not his fault, that's just the timing of the injury.
06:47It's bad luck.
06:48And you know, age and a bunch of things, you know, banged and bruised your, I feel better
06:52about Andrew Wiley at right guard and Allegretti at left guard than I would about who the hell's
06:56going to be my tackle.
06:57Now that if you could solve that by, again, two birds with one stone, this, this tonsil
07:02move, you're improving it.
07:03Two of the three most important positions of that five.
07:05I think that is a win upon, win upon a win.
07:08And that's why I think I'm willing to pay a little bit of a premium to go get a Laramie
07:11tonsil that way.
07:12Cause again, it's, you're not just improving one spot, you're improving multiple.
