McCarthy discussed how Dallas’ familiarity with Washington’s coaches, players and defensive schemes helped them prepare for Sunday. 00:22pretty much what he was doing here as much as you're, you know, allowed to, I know you're
00:28allowed, but as much as you're willing to say about it, scheme-wise, is it looking like
00:31really, really familiar to the Cowboy days?
00:33Yeah, the foundation of it is, you know, the starting point, you know, particularly in
00:38the sub-packages.
00:39You know, philosophically, you know, Joe Witt is really pivoted off of, you know, what was
00:45done here.
00:46You know, Joe was involved in the construction of the defense here, so now, just like all
00:51of us, when you do get a chance to coordinate, you take it, you know, the direction you truly
00:56believe in.
00:57I think Joe's done a really good job there, but yeah, there's, you know, there's a lot
01:01of the similar concepts, but the variations in how it's being called is definitely tailored
01:07more to Joe.
01:08Coach, a lot of your depth had departed this off-season and ended up in Washington on offense
01:13and defense with Tyler Piadish, even former players like Noah Brown over there now, Noah
01:18Igbenagany, just different guys.
01:19Which is more advantageous for you guys, do you feel like, at times?
01:22Is it the familiarity with the scheme and the coaches or the familiarity with some of
01:26those players on the other side?
01:30I think they go hand-in-hand, frankly, you know, I think like anything, you know, you
01:36really break them down separately at the beginning of the week, you know, the first thing we
01:39do on Monday, you know, we get together there at dinnertime as we, you know, we have a personnel
01:44meeting and our, you know, our personnel department does an excellent job of coming in and giving
01:49us a, you know, a forecast of what they've seen in the most recent update to, you know,
01:54the past game.
01:55So, you know, and then with that, you know, the coaches have already really started their
02:01pre-prep, you know, probably, you know, Thursday, Friday, the week before, and you tie it together.
02:06But they're both very important and I think it helps when you do have, you know, a connection
02:13to the players and also to the schemes that they're running.
