00:00And on its anniversary, we wanted to celebrate you.
00:04Thank you, Maxie. This is over-the-top kind.
00:08Uh, do you guys mind helping me hand them out?
00:11Of course not.
00:12When I didn't see you downstairs, I thought I might find you up here.
00:32Why is that?
00:34Gregory's Bench, the Port of Maine crypt, this memorial wall.
00:40You spend a lot of time in places where you can honor your loved ones.
00:45And if you're not nice to me, I'm going to tell everyone that Tracy Port of Maine is a sentimental softy at heart.
00:51They'll never believe you.
00:56I like the quiet here.
01:00And as opposed to at home, these loved ones can't talk back.
01:08Yeah.
01:10Monica, can't make it today.
01:14Oh no, she's still not feeling well.
01:17This whole year's been a struggle, that's why I tried to keep those kids around her, so it would give her a reason to get up in the morning.
01:22A reason to keep going.
01:24And some days it worked perfectly.
01:26Yeah, but as soon as she rallies, she has another setback.
01:30It's a shame she has to miss the unveiling. It's in her honor.
01:35You know, I don't think this hospital would be standing if it weren't for my sister-in-law.
01:40She should definitely be here.
01:42Well, thank goodness for cell phones.
01:44You can record the dedication and show her the whole thing.
01:47Yeah, it's not the same thing.
01:52You did an amazing job.
01:54It's perfect.
01:55Oh, I'm glad you like it.
01:56My kids were born here.
01:58This is where my appendix made its last stand.
02:01Wow.
02:02That's all I could do for the place.
02:07The whole place is beautiful.
02:10I can't wait for Monica to see this.
02:12Can you imagine having your name on something so groundbreaking?
02:15Well, Monica deserves it. She was an amazing chief of staff.
02:19She took a real chance on me.
02:22She took a chance on both of us.
02:25You know, Monica inspires me to try and be just a little bit better.
02:30Not just as a doctor.
02:31I mean, that's all we can do, right?
02:33Try to make Monica proud.
02:35And do what's right by this hospital.
02:37The backbone of the ball is the general hospital staff.
02:41The nurses, the doctors, the aides.
02:43And we even have regular Port Charles citizens that get up on that stage
02:47and they give it their all for the most worthy of causes.
02:52Lucy, the cause, what is it?
02:56I didn't say.
02:58Not yet.
02:59Huh.
03:01Well, then I am absolutely glad you asked.
03:04Hey, I was hoping I'd see you today.
03:07Right.
03:08Hi.
03:09I just left a meeting and I thought I'd stick around for the unveiling.
03:12You know, Curtis, this cardiac center is going to be so good for Port Charles.
03:18People are going to be able to get care here that they can't get anywhere else.
03:23Well, its opening is a big deal, and not only am I going to be here,
03:27but someone from Aurora Media is going to be here too.
03:29Okay, that's great.
03:30Oh, I really wish Kevin was going to be done with his seminar in time to be here with me for this.
03:37No such luck.
03:38No, not this time.
03:40I'm sorry.
03:41Yeah, well, I'll fill him in on everything.
03:43He'll feel like he was here.
03:46So sit for a minute with me.
03:48Tell me, is Portia thrilled?
03:52Oh, Portia, she'll be thrilled when the cardiac care center is finally open.
03:57I think she's low-key afraid that there's going to be some kind of delay.
04:01Ah, yes, well, we did have more than a few on the way, but it's happening today.
04:07We're opening.
04:09I heard that there was an anonymous donor.
04:12That's true.
04:15It had to be someone that the hospital helped.
04:18Well, if I had to take a guess at who the mystery donor is,
04:21I'd say it's probably someone who had sort of a contentious relationship with Monica for years,
04:27but also admired and respected her at the same time.
04:33Maybe somebody who knew some of the same people that Monica knows.
04:40Okay, look, maybe someone who is the business partner of someone who Monica loves a lot.
04:49Hmm.
04:51Sounds like this mystery donor isn't much of a mystery to you.
04:55Well, I don't think it's a mystery to Monica either.
04:59And I think it's a great relief to her that they left their name off this project
05:05so that it's not tied to hers forever.
05:09Okay, so if Monica wants to distance herself from the donor, then maybe it's smart to follow suit.
05:15Being attached to the wrong people can often hurt as much as it can sometimes help.
05:21That's true.
05:23But you know the great thing about General Hospital is that without even trying,
05:28it brings out the best in everyone.
05:39What are you doing? I thought you'd be downstairs. That's where the ceremony is.
05:43Yeah, I thought I'd come up, see a few friends, remember some things, count my blessings.
05:49Sometimes it feels impossible to do, doesn't it?
05:52Well, your blessings are always there. You just got to dig through the lost ones and you'll find them.
05:57And then you dig even deeper.
06:00Are you here for a dedication?
06:02Well, I came for an AA meeting, but I thought I'd stay for the unveiling.
06:07I heard the cardiac care center is cutting edge.
06:11The atrium is stunning.
06:13Then you should know that because you're an anonymous donor.
06:18Before you get upset, I just happened to see the paperwork on Diane's desk.
06:22Don't go all sunny on her. She doesn't know that I saw it.
06:26However, it is surprising because Monica is not your biggest fan.
06:31No, she hates me, but I respect the hell out of her.
06:34Why not take all the credit?
06:36Well, I don't want to force Monica to have to see our names linked together when she goes to her own wing.
06:43What do you think I am, some kind of monster?
06:45Yeah, but you're a very nice and generous one.
06:50Are you taking a walk down? Oh, sorry. You're going down memory lane here.
06:55I was just appreciating all of this and this is a very exciting day for the hospital and for Monica.
07:02Yeah, I hope she's proud when she hears about it.
07:05She's not going to be there? No, unfortunately, she is not feeling up to it.
07:09Oh, I'm so sorry. I was really looking forward to seeing her.
07:13I know. I mean, I could postpone the unveiling, but nobody would hate that more than Monica.
07:19I know. Yeah.
07:21So, um, Lulu mentioned to me that she ran into you at the...
07:27PCCD. Yes, yes.
07:30I was completely surprised to run into her there.
07:33Yeah.
07:35I meant what I said to her.
07:39I'm so happy that she's doing well.
07:41Oh, gosh. I just don't know how to...
07:44What?
07:46Well, I know that I have expressed my sorrow and my gratitude for Sam's gift to Lulu.
07:51Yes, you have. Many times. And you even added to that with your really generous donation in her name. I appreciated that.
07:58Yeah, but it's not enough, you know? And it will never be enough.
08:03I mean, how do you...
08:06How do you thank someone for giving your child their life back?
08:11How do you attempt to fill the void for such an unfathomable loss?
08:15I don't know that a void like that is ever able to be filled.
08:20I'm sorry. I'm not saying this right at all.
08:22Don't be sorry.
08:23But I am.
08:25I am so sorry.
08:28I really am.
08:31For you. For your whole family.
08:35I just don't know how to adequately convey that.
08:41Laura, listen to me.
08:45Sam didn't die so Lulu could live. It wasn't an exchange.
08:49One thing had nothing to do with the other.
08:52Yeah, I know, but she was in the hospital because...
08:55She chose to donate her organ to Lulu.
08:59It's what she wanted to do. And it was very successful.
09:04And what happened after that is beyond anyone's control, which is why it is so important to me that we focus just on her bravery.
09:14And that she didn't die in vain.
09:17And that her children and her gift to Lulu is what she left behind.
09:22It's what made her life really valuable and made her a hero on Earth.
09:28Yes, she was. She was a hero. She was.
09:33Let's not focus on her death, just her life, okay?
09:36Because all of that love that she gave to her children and to Lulu and to everyone is what matters.
09:46Yeah.
09:51And that is exactly how we will honor Sam going forward.
09:57There you go.
09:58Thanks.
10:00I can't believe this is all ours.
10:03And it's free!
10:05This is really above and beyond. Thank you.
10:08The brightening mist? I love this stuff. It gives me the dewiest glow.
10:13That's kind of the point.
10:15Do you know how much this costs?
10:16Nope.
10:17You want to?
10:18Nope.
10:19Well, let's just say these bags are worth a lot.
10:22Not as much as the nurses at GH.
10:25You guys, and that's a collective you guys, have taken care of me more times than I can count.
10:31And I've not always been my best when I've been here.
10:34Not many people are at their best at a hospital.
10:37Yeah, but you guys are taking care of my kids now.
10:40And nobody gets paid enough to take care of James.
10:43When I heard he broke his arm, I didn't even panic.
10:46Okay, I panicked a little, but I knew he was being treated at GH, so I knew he was going to be fine.
10:51Until the next time he did something really stupid.
10:54Which he will.
10:56Thank you for taking care of my family.
10:58That's the idea.
11:00Max, you bought presents for the hospital's anniversary?
11:03I did.
11:04All that is very thoughtful of you.
11:06And expensive.
11:08Would you please stop focusing on the cost?
11:11I'm sorry, but good skin care is putting me into debt.
11:13I mean, it's obviously worth it, but still.
11:16Liquid gold, I tell ya.
11:19Were any extras around for, say, I don't know, a couple of patient advocates?
11:23You were asking for some friends, of course.
11:26I think I can make that happen.
11:28There you go.
11:32Laura, good. I'm glad I found you.
11:34Listen, I wanted to apologize for giving you a hard time about the anonymous donor.
11:39Especially today.
11:41Oh, no, no, no. Really, you didn't.
11:44You had concerns. I respect that. I respect Monica, too.
11:47Hey, can I be honest with you?
11:49Yeah.
11:50I'm actually really nervous right now about giving my speech now that I know that Monica's not going to be here to hear it.
11:56I wasn't aware she wasn't going to be here.
11:58Ah, yeah, she's got these respiratory issues and she hasn't been able to kick it.
12:02But now I'm a little worried about doing that same speech without her here.
12:07No worries, Aurora. Media will cover every word and I will make sure she gets a copy.
12:13Excuse me.
12:14Hi.
12:15Oh, you know what? We're not just celebrating the opening of the cardiac care center.
12:20It is also this hospital's 62nd anniversary.
12:24Wow.
12:26You know, it's hard to believe anything sticks around for 62 years.
12:31I thank God every night that this place did, though.
12:34If it weren't for the doctors and the specialists here, you know, there's a good chance I'd still be in that wheelchair.
12:41But you know something? Your strength and your courage were a big part of your recovery.
12:48Thank you for saying that.
12:50But I got to say, I worked with some doctors and some specialists that, you know, even the physical therapists, they were there for me.
12:58They didn't make me any promises about my recovery.
13:01They just, they just listened.
13:04They made me feel like I mattered.
13:07Because you do matter. A lot.
13:10What's so silly for you to say?
13:12Oh, thank you for telling me that. That was beautiful.
13:15Let me guess. You and your brother have an inside joke.
13:19Despite the fact that we fought like cats and dogs, we did have a few.
13:24You and Alan loved each other.
13:29Very much.
13:30In your own distinctly unique way.
13:35The quartermain way?
13:38Yes.
13:39So, Daddy used to like to pit me and Alan against each other.
13:44I think he thought we would get stronger, and I don't know, maybe we did. I don't know.
13:49But what my father did not count on was Alan's ultimate act of betrayal.
13:55Becoming a doctor.
13:58It took guts. Branching out on his own.
14:01Fusing to follow in his father's footsteps.
14:05I was jealous.
14:07You were?
14:09Not that I ever told Alan.
14:12Right or wrong, he always followed his dreams.
14:16If he wanted to become a doctor, he did.
14:18If he wanted to marry Monica...
14:20He did. With a little sight of Lucy Coe.
14:25I gave him such grief for those two choices.
14:29I was wrong.
14:32I'm sorry. What did you say?
14:35I was wrong.
14:38Those two choices got us intertwined with this hospital in ways I never could have imagined.
14:44So much of what exists here at GH is because of my brother and my sister-in-law's shared legacy.
14:54You're absolutely right.
14:56Alan and Monica got us here today.
15:00In fact, when we go home, we should go upstairs and tell Monica that.
15:06I'm going to do nothing of the kind. What has gotten into everybody today?
15:11Never change, Mother.
15:13Why would I?
15:16You know, the Nurses Ball was conceived as a fundraiser for research and care in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
15:27And I know today it doesn't quite seem as pressing. I mean, not here, but globally, it still is.
15:33But you have to remember, in 1994, we were in the darkest days of the AIDS crisis and we really didn't see any hope for a cure.
15:43Did you have people close to you struggling with the disease?
15:48I did. There was this beautiful young man named Stone Cates.
15:52You know, he actually performed in the first Nurses Ball.
15:56He was diagnosed right after and he went pretty fast.
16:00You know, he wasn't around. He passed away before our third ball.
16:04So sorry.
16:07He also, um, his girlfriend at the time, Robin, she was diagnosed also, but she was much more lucky.
16:13Fortunately, she is still here with us.
16:17I can't say the same thing about my dear friend and co-chair of the ball, John Hanley.
16:23You know, it's funny, I still have his card in my old Rolodex.
16:30There's a little heart right by his name.
16:34And I wish I could say he was the only one, but unfortunately I can't count how many people I lost to that horrible disease.
16:40And that is why I do the Nurses Ball and I put my whole heart and soul in it to make it a success, even after all these years.
16:51For all the little hearts in your Rolodex?
16:56Yeah, for all the little hearts in my Rolodex.

17:35It might even be hotter than the Spicy Chicken Sandwich itself, with its flavorful blend of spices and fresh toppings.
17:42But hurry, a deal this hot won't last.
17:47You know, retirement doesn't have to mean giving something up.

20:45Uh-huh.
20:46You know, he's getting better every day.
20:50I got to talk to him on the phone. He made a joke.
20:54Sounds like Michael.
20:57I'm going to go say a prayer for Michael.
21:00Okay.
21:01He would love that.
21:07You okay?
21:08Yeah. Yeah.
21:11I was just thinking about all the times that I've been here, you know.
21:14In this chapel?
21:16Well, in the hospital in general.
21:22I had a lot of conversations with God in this chapel.
21:27Made a lot of bargains.
21:29Yeah.
21:31Have you kept any?
21:33I've tried.
21:35I don't.
21:39You know, it's funny.
21:42When you think about all the suffering that goes on here, I don't associate general hospital with pain.
21:53When I think about everything that goes on in these walls, this slideshow starts running through my mind.
22:03I see my mom at the nurse's station.
22:08I'm going to have my babies here.
22:11You walking again.
22:14And the doctors and the nurses saving Michael's life so he has a fighting chance, you know.
22:21A fight he's going to win.
22:23Yes, yes, because of this hospital.
22:25No, because of you.
22:28I would never bet against Carly Spencer in a fight.
22:35It's because of us.
22:39And for the record, I wouldn't bet against you either.
22:44Sounds like a beautiful moving cause.
22:50So beautiful and moving you want to contribute?
22:54I mean, this could really be a big opportunity for you, you know.
22:57Everybody who's very affluent in Port Charles, they contribute to underwriting the ball.
23:03And I think this could be wonderful for you.
23:05You could change people's perception of you, you know, leave your mark if you help out with the ball.
23:10Yes.
23:12What?
23:13I mean.
23:15Okay. Yay. I mean, that's amazing.
23:18And you will not regret it, I swear.
23:21But I do have one condition.
23:25Of course you do.
23:43I will solely underwrite the entire nurses' ball.
23:49You're saying that you want to float the whole thing yourself?
23:55Those are my terms. Take it or leave it.
24:00Portia, should we get started soon? People are starting to gather.
24:05Well, we can't get started without Monica.
24:08I'm afraid we're going to have to.
24:10Monica's not coming.

25:05Did you get a penalty so you can eat Gold Bears too?

25:53How's that going?
25:55And whose idea was it to commit these heinous crimes?
25:58It was Scotty's.
26:00For all the money, which two brothers invented the airplane?
26:04Scotty's.
26:07Stay quiet.
26:10Scotty's.
26:12Oops.
26:14Scotty's.

27:16Hi.
27:18Hey.
27:20I spoke to Robin today.
27:23She wishes she could be here to visit Stone's Plaque and celebrate the cardiac center.
27:31Yeah, I wish she was here and we could both remember Stone.
27:38He was such a young man and he left a real impact.
27:43He changed my life.
27:47So did Robin.
27:53This hospital has given her so much.
27:56Her career, her life, her family, you know?
28:02It's amazing. We were so scared that she wasn't going to get any of these things.
28:08Thank God we were wrong.
28:11But it was clear on the stage at the nurses' bowl in front of all the poor children.
28:18She said, this is the face of HIV.
28:26So beautiful and brave.
28:32I hate that I wasn't here for her during that time.
28:36We're almost taken care of.
28:39In large part by you.
28:45You know, despite our differences, I will always be very grateful to you for that.
28:54With all my heart.
28:58It was my pleasure.
29:04Oh, Sonny.
29:08Robin asked me if I would see you.
29:12I was supposed to give you something.
29:25Yeah.
29:37Thank you all for being here today.
29:40We are thrilled to officially unveil the Monica Quartermain Cardiac Care Center and Atrium.
29:48Monica, unfortunately, won't be able to be with us in person, but she'll be here in spirit.
29:53It's hard to avoid her because Monica is this hospital.
29:57She's been the ultimate example of what a chief of staff should be.
30:01In fact, Portia and I often find ourselves asking each other, W-W-M-D.
30:08What would Monica do?
30:11She is, without a doubt, our guiding light.
30:14Our constant reminder to keep going.
30:17To move forward. To bet on the future and not the past.
30:20Which is exactly what this new cardiac care center is all about.
30:25Helping future patients meet their medical needs, and in the process, saving lives.
30:30And we are so very lucky that our mayor has made time for us.
30:35And she's going to celebrate with us.
30:37And given how busy she is, I don't want to keep her waiting.
30:40Please, Mayor Collins.
30:45Thank you so much, Dr. Robinson and Dr. Randolph.
30:49I am truly honored to be here to celebrate the opening of the Dr. Monica Quartermain Cardiac Care Center.
31:01And also to commemorate 62 amazing years of General Hospital.
31:11It is truly remarkable.
31:13You know, I think that General Hospital is a place where people from all walks of life come together to give and receive care.
31:22It's also a place where we put our differences behind us.
31:26And we focus on what is truly important.
31:30Supporting each other.
31:32As family, as friends, as neighbors, as a community.
31:37And with its staff of amazing doctors and nurses and specialists, technicians, and even volunteers.
31:47I believe that General Hospital represents us at our best.
31:53And, not to toot my own horn too much.
31:57Well, I think General Hospital is a place where you can start out as a somewhat mediocre candy striper and wind up the mayor of the town.
32:13For so many of us, General Hospital feels like home.
32:19The people in it, our family.
32:23Embrace that.
32:26Cherish that.
32:28And with the opening of this new cardiac care center, we honor that.
32:35Please.
32:59Hi, guys.
33:01Okay, this is perfect that you're all here because I have a great big announcement to make.
33:06Jens Sidwell, who has generously agreed to be the sole underwriter for the 2025 Nurses Ball.
33:15Okay, all of you who want to volunteer to be up on the stage in May, you know who to talk to.
33:21Come find me, you know where I am.
33:23And, happy 62nd anniversary.
