03:13As every year, the great mosques of Morocco have welcomed thousands of faithful
03:18who have come to accomplish the prayer of Aïd El-Fitr,
03:21a celebration held in an atmosphere of spirituality and conviviality,
03:26as explained to us by Mohammed Richi and Dinam Rini.
03:34Aïd El-Fitr, the prayer of Aïd El-Fitr
03:47This Monday morning, hundreds of faithful gathered at the Syrian Mosque in Tangier
03:53to accomplish the prayer of Aïd El-Fitr.
03:56The Takbir and prayers resonating throughout the space
04:04have created a solemn and inspiring atmosphere.
04:11A warm and convivial atmosphere marks this day of Eid.
04:14I wish all Moroccans a happy holiday with all my wishes of health and happiness.
04:20I wish all Moroccans a happy holiday with all my wishes of health and happiness.
04:24I wish all Moroccans a happy holiday with all my wishes of health and happiness.
04:27I wish all Moroccans a happy holiday with all my wishes of health and happiness.
04:33Happy Eid Mubarak to all Moroccans.
04:36The celebration of Eid takes place in a warm and convivial atmosphere here in Tangier.
04:40Today, the beautiful weather has allowed the faithful to come to the mosque in large numbers.
04:44God bless.
04:44Ramadan has brought with it this year rain and several riches.
04:50Yes, Alhamdulillah. Ramadan has brought with it this year rain and several riches.
04:57In this scene of spiritual grandeur,
05:00the expanses of the Syrian Mosque are full of faithful of all generations.
05:05Men, women and children eagerly awaited the call to prayer.
05:10The organizers, in their concern to welcome the faithful as best as possible,
05:13have arranged two separate spaces, one reserved for men and the other for women,
05:19adapting to the size of the place of prayer
05:21and making sure to create easy paths to allow everyone to easily access it.
05:37The day of Eid takes place in a special atmosphere in Morocco.
05:40This is not the first time I celebrate Eid here.
05:43I am impressed by the diversity of Moroccan cultural heritage and very rich traditional clothing.
05:48Between Djelaba, Djabadour and Kaftan,
05:51I am wearing a Moroccan Djelaba today, where I have printed my two countries,
05:54Egypt, my home country, and Morocco, my country of heart, where I live.
06:07This is a great moment of reception for these thousands of Moroccans
06:11who have moved to perform this prayer.
06:14In this atmosphere where the richness of religion is reflected,
06:17the faithful have joyfully saluted each other,
06:20exchanging warm wishes and sincere blessings.
06:25Eid El Fitr is also celebrated today by many Muslim countries around the world.
06:31This is the case of Egypt, Syria, Iraq,
06:35Jordan, Tunisia, Indonesia, or even the Sultanate of Oman.
06:40In Asia, thousands of faithful went out early this morning
06:43to go to the places of prayer
06:46and celebrate this holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
06:50Several other countries, including some of the Gulf,
06:53such as Saudi Arabia, have already celebrated Eid El Fitr since yesterday.
07:01The news leads us to the international.
07:03It is one of the political news in France.
07:07Marine Le Pen was declared ineligible for the 2027 presidential election,
07:11with immediate effect, for having been found guilty
07:15of defrauding public funds by the justice system.
07:18In addition to her five years of ineligibility,
07:21Madame Le Pen was also convicted of a four-year imprisonment,
07:26including two years in prison,
07:27arranged under the electronic bracelet of Elon Musk.
07:31Billionaire and close adviser to Donald Trump
07:33denounced an abuse of the judicial system,
07:36putting on guard against a return of the baton,
07:39while the Kremlin had rather deplored a violation of democratic norms.
07:45Raja Hengo for more details.
07:49Marine Le Pen's political future is stopped by a decision of justice on Monday.
07:55The president of the National Assembly's group of deputies
07:59and one of the favorites of the 2027 presidential election
08:02was found guilty in the trial of parliamentary assistants,
08:06collaborators who were actually working for the far-right party
08:11and were held accountable by the European Parliament.
08:14In the judgment's statement,
08:15the court highlighted Marine Le Pen's central role
08:19in this system set up to divert money from the European Parliament.
08:24It is an absolutely vicious circle,
08:27and I find fundamentally that the blow that has been given today
08:31is a blow, for once, I repeat the court's terms,
08:34a blow to democracy.
08:35Concretely, this sentence means that Marine Le Pen remains a deputy,
08:39but that she will not be able to present herself to the French presidential election
08:43for the next five years.
08:44She has also been sentenced to four years in prison,
08:47including two sentences,
08:48arranged under an electronic bracelet,
08:50as well as 100,000 euros in fines.
08:53So there was not, for the court,
08:55a single discussion, a single hesitation.
08:58As far as the statement of guilt is concerned,
09:01and in my place, that's what I was looking for.
09:06Well, I consider the Paris Judiciary Tribunal
09:08to be at risk of recidivism,
09:10and therefore I apply the provisional execution
09:12on the additional penalty of ineligibility.
09:14This decision compromises Marine Le Pen's candidacy
09:17for the 2027 presidential election
09:20and the next legislative session.
09:22Guilty of public fund embezzlement
09:24and complicity with public fund embezzlement,
09:27the court has estimated that the total loss
09:30was 2.9 million euros.
09:32What recidivism of Marine Le Pen is no longer a European deputy?
09:35It's been 10 years since the European Parliament has reproached us for anything.
09:38From the moment it told us that it was not,
09:40that it did not have the same conception as us,
09:41parliamentary collaborators,
09:43we can see that there is a political will behind it
09:46and that we are well beyond simply saying the law.
09:49Others, close to the ex-boss of the RN,
09:51have also been convicted in this case.
09:54The mayor of Perpignan was sentenced to 6 months in prison
09:57and 3 years of ineligibility.
09:59MEP Catherine Chrissé,
10:02Marine Le Pen's long-time cabinet chief,
10:04was also sentenced to 12 months in prison with exception
10:07and 2 years of ineligibility
10:09for public fund embezzlement.
10:13Trump made a statement yesterday
10:15about his outrage against Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
10:19The American president expressed his frustration
10:22against the blockade for an agreement to cease fire between the two countries.
10:26According to an interview given on Sunday on NBC,
10:29the White House host threatened to impose secondary customs rights
10:34on all oil coming out of Russia.
10:37Threats that have pushed oil prices to progress, he said.
10:45As always, French Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Algerian Abdelmajid Tebboune
10:50made a phone call
10:53to rekindle relations between their two countries
10:57after months of crisis,
10:59with a resumption of security and migratory cooperation,
11:02according to a joint statement.
11:04The head of the French state also reiterated his confidence
11:08in the clarity of his Algerian counterpart
11:10and called for a gesture of mercy and humanity
11:14towards the French-Algerian writer Boalem Sansal,
11:17sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison by an Algerian tribunal.
11:23Volodymyr Zelensky called on Russia to preserve unity on Monday.
11:28About three years after a massacre of six cities in Bucha
11:31and at a time when calls for a ceasefire are becoming increasingly urgent,
11:36during a commemorative summit in Kiev's suburbs,
11:41the Ukrainian president asked his allies to continue to support
11:45the defense of Ukraine against the Russian invasion,
11:47which began in February 2022.
11:50He also said that more than 183,000 crimes related to the Russian invasion
11:55had already been documented by his country.
12:02Vladimir Putin remains open to any contact
12:05with his American counterpart, Donald Trump,
12:08who today signed the Kremlin after criticism
12:11of the White House host
12:12at the meeting of the Russian president,
12:14despite the close ties that had been established for several weeks.
12:18Donald Trump told the American NBC channel
12:21to be angry and even furious with his Russian counterpart
12:26after the latter had mentioned the idea of a transitional administration in Ukraine
12:31without its current president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
12:34As a reminder, Vladimir Putin rejected this month
12:37Donald Trump's proposal to end the unconditional fire in Ukraine
12:42that Kiev had yet to accept under American pressure.
12:48This time in Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
12:52promised a firm response from Iran
12:55if the country was bombed as Donald Trump threatened it
12:59in case of a failure of diplomacy on the issue of nuclear.
13:04The American president also assured in an interview
13:08with the NBC channel published yesterday
13:10that there would be bombings in Iran
13:12in the absence of an agreement on Iranian nuclear
13:15if he does not sign an agreement.
13:17There will be bombings, he insisted, as a sign of protest.
13:21Iran has indicated that it has summoned
13:23the business manager of the Swiss embassy in Tehran,
13:26who represents American interests in the country.
13:32Transition to Syria with the president of the interim army,
13:35Dajar al-Shari, who assured that he wanted to reach a consensus
13:39in the reconstruction of the country after the fall of Bashar al-Assad,
13:43but warned that he could not satisfy everyone.
13:47The new Syrian government,
13:49whose coalition overthrew Bashar al-Assad last December,
13:53took power in Damascus after nearly 14 years of civil war
13:57and is dominated by the faithful of the interim president.
14:00Made up of 23 members, without a prime minister,
14:03there are four ministers from the Syrian minority,
14:07a Christian, a Druze, a Kurd, and an Alawite,
14:11but none occupy a key portfolio.
14:21During this time in the Middle East,
14:22the Ministry of Health of Hamas for the Gaza Strip
14:25said today that 1,001 people had been killed
14:30in the Palestinian territory since the resumption
14:32of Israeli bombings on March 18.
14:35The ministry said in a statement
14:38that 80 people had been killed in the last 48 hours,
14:42with a total of 50,357 dead since the start of the war
14:49on October 7, 2023.
14:54In Gabon, the presidential campaign has started this weekend.
14:57The Gabonese are called to the polls on April 12,
15:01to elect and put an end to a 18-month transition period.
15:06The people hope for a new page of prosperity for their country.
15:12The subject is signed by Kevin Oswald of Loukaga.
15:16A few weeks before the presidential election on April 12,
15:20in the middle of an electoral campaign,
15:22the Gabonese are turning to a promoting political future.
15:26This election is considered a historic turning point,
15:29with the hope of a real alternation and profound reforms.
15:34As a Gabonese, I am waiting for this republic to change.
15:40There is a housing problem, there is a job problem.
15:44I am waiting, first of all, for health,
15:48because health is more expensive.
15:50And take care of the old people, no one.
15:53We want Gabon to be up to what Gabon was before.
15:58That's all we're waiting for.
15:59The Gabonese are waiting for concrete measures to reduce unemployment
16:03and improve living conditions,
16:06especially in rural areas,
16:08where poverty is three times more severe than in the city.
16:12The citizens hope for a modernization of essential infrastructures
16:17to boost the economy and, above all, improve the quality of life.
16:20They use all these young people who are in the neighborhood,
16:23who do nothing in the big free cities and in Gabon in general,
16:27to exploit their energy in order to build Gabon in their own image.
16:30There is the field of health, national education, everything is fine.
16:34We want now, for Gabonese people like us,
16:39we want change.
16:40We want family allocations to come back.
16:44That is, each Gabonese has the right to receive family allocations at home,
16:49especially from numerous families,
16:51because the Gabonese mother suffers enormously.
16:54The Gabonese are waiting for a president capable of responding to major economic and social challenges
17:00while establishing a more democratic and transparent government.
17:05This election is perceived as an opportunity to fill with the past
17:09and build a more equitable and prosperous future.
17:14The presidential election in Gabon arouses many expectations among the population.
17:19These expectations vary according to the country's political, economic and social issues.
17:24To talk about this, ladies and gentlemen, we find ourselves in the office of Gwenaëlle Otondo,
17:29President of the Citizens' Expertise Association in Africa and Europe.
17:34Good evening to you and thank you for responding to our invitation.
17:37Good evening and thank you for inviting me.
17:39It is a pleasure to participate in your newspaper.
17:42So, what are the expectations of the Gabonese for this presidential election,
17:49especially in terms of governance, electoral transparency
17:52and, above all, economic and social reforms?
17:57Well, listen, as you heard earlier in the report, there are many expectations.
18:02So, the presidential campaign, which was launched on March 29,
18:08will be very short but very intense in terms of the different issues and themes to be addressed,
18:14namely economic development, land development, energy issues,
18:20everything related to income-generating activities, unemployment.
18:23I come from a very kind economic capital that used to be very prosperous
18:29thanks to oil maintenance.
18:31But today, we have an unemployment rate,
18:33especially among young people, close to 40%.
18:36So, there are many expectations.
18:38And precisely, the candidates are really waiting for these different issues.
18:45And Mr. Odingi, Brice Clotaire, Odingi Nguema,
18:49said earlier in his last interview that his opponent is young people's unemployment.
18:54So, these issues are widely expected by the population
18:58and we are waiting for the different candidates around these different issues.
19:03And what are the major socio-political factors
19:06that influence the results of the presidential elections in Gabon
19:09and how have they evolved recently?
19:13Well, listen, at the end of the coup d'état or the coup de libération on August 30,
19:23we had the Gabonese who were at the same time very, very enthusiastic
19:31because they were coming out of a period that was not very bright.
19:38And at the same time, we still had some doubts,
19:42doubts about the commitment, about the transition process,
19:50doubts about the commitment held afterwards and doubts also,
19:55especially in relation to the ability of the actors of the transition
19:58to lead the port of Gabon well.
20:01But we can see that in the end, we are now coming to the end of this transition,
20:05we can see that the timetable for the transition has been respected.
20:11We had a national dialogue that included all the different living forces of the nation,
20:17which also included political actors, civil society,
20:20academics, religious people, so it was still quite inclusive.
20:24We had a referendum, we had a reform of the electoral code
20:29with the creation of a new structure for access,
20:31which is autonomous, which is also in charge of the control of these different actions
20:36and with, in particular, an enrichment at the level of transparency
20:45because from now on, we will have the different procedures
20:49that will be displayed on the different polling stations.
20:52So we see that there is still an evolution,
20:54a reform and institutional reforms that are going in the right direction.
20:59And also, what are the main challenges that Gabon is facing
21:04in terms of the management of presidential elections
21:06and what reforms would be necessary, in your opinion, to improve this process?
21:11So, the different challenges, I see mainly four.
21:16First, the challenge, we talked about it earlier,
21:18the challenge related to the development of the country
21:21and to the credibility of Gabon as a result of its partners.
21:28So, the challenge related to development.
21:30We have the challenge related to security,
21:34but we can see it well, we saw it during the election,
21:37the condition, we still noticed a certain maturity of the institutions
21:42and of the Gabonese people, which shows well,
21:44which consolidates a little this image of Gabon
21:46as being a level of peace and stability.
21:50We have the challenge related to security,
22:00it is also related to stability.
22:04From this point of view, we can see that we have had a management
22:08that has appeased this transition with a strong adhesion
22:13of the different leaders of the opposition, of the old regime,
22:17who have almost all adhered to the project of the actors of the transition.
22:25And we see it in the campaign, which still announces
22:30a strong enthusiasm of the population in relation to this election.
22:38So, important challenges, of course,
22:41but with great confidence as to the outcome of this election,
22:51given the reforms that have been put in place.
22:55And in this same dynamic,
22:56so how do international observers play a crucial role
23:00during the presidential elections in Gabon?
23:02Was their presence a real influence on the outcome of the elections as well?
23:09Well, international actors are already present,
23:12they are already in place in Gabon.
23:14They are important because they are still important neutral observers
23:19who also participate in the credibility and the process of this election.
23:30So, their view is important.
23:33If we ever see again flaws in the system,
23:41their denunciation, their role will be important.
23:44And besides, we invite them, they are already on site
23:51and so, as usual, they will have an important role to play
23:56also during this election.
23:58So, an important look ahead to this presidential election in Gabon,
24:01scheduled for April 12th.
24:03Thank you again, Mrs. Gouanel Otondo.
24:06I remind you that you are the president
24:08of the Citizens' Expertise Association in Africa and Europe.
24:15And it is on this point of the news that this newspaper ends.
24:18The news returns on May 11th, TV Africa.
