Wet and windy for much of Scotland, particularly north of the Central Belt. The rain also reaching Northern Ireland and the far southwest of Scotland later, and accompanied by strengthening winds around western coasts and over the hills and mountains. Drier and brighter across England and Wales, but rather cloudy in the west, with a few spots of patchy drizzle over western hills. Sunniest towards the southeast where it will be feeling warm, but cooler under the cloud and rain further northwest - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 27/03/2025. 00:00Hi there, a marked contrast today across the UK with the south-east enjoying another day
00:06of warm sunny spells, the north-west seeing increasingly unsettled weather, wet, windy
00:11and much cooler weather sweep in because of this area of low pressure that will pass close
00:15to north-west Scotland and introduce these weather fronts which are increasingly turning
00:19the weather unsettled, wet and windy for much of Scotland, particularly north of the central
00:24belt where the wet weather will become heavier and more persistent into the afternoon, the
00:30rain reaching northern Ireland as well and by 4pm Glasgow, the far south-west of Scotland
00:36also seeing that rain arrive. The rain will be accompanied by strong winds, gales for
00:41some exposed coastal parts of north-west Scotland and strong wind gusts over the hills and mountains
00:46as well, so all in all feeling disappointingly cool where that wetter weather affects north-west
00:54Scotland 8-10C in some spots, but further south across much of England and Wales it's
00:59drier, it's brighter, still a lot of cloud though for northern and western England as
01:04well as Wales, a few spots of rain most likely over the hills of the west, but for the Midlands,
01:09East Anglia, the south and south-east, well plenty of sunny spells once again and in that
01:13sunshine temperatures reaching widely the mid-teens and in some spots 18 or even 19C.
01:20Nevertheless, the unsettled weather in the north is going to progress further south-east
01:25during the evening, a spell of heavy rain for northern England, parts of Wales. As the
01:30front comes south it tends to become narrower and the rain becomes more short-lived, but
01:36there could be some heavy bursts on the rain as it moves through during the early hours
01:40along with some gusty winds. Ahead of that it stays dry for much of the night in the
01:44far south-east and under clear skies temperatures could dip to 2-4C. Under the cloud and rain
01:50temperatures remaining in the mid-single figures, but further north we've got colder air arriving
01:56along with fairly lively showers across Scotland, Northern Ireland, some hail and thunder possible
02:02and again gusty winds, but away from the winds temperatures could dip to minus 1C in sheltered
02:09parts of northern Scotland. So a mixed bag as we start off Friday, the first thing we'll
02:14see some rain clearing across the Midlands, south-west England, south Wales. Soon enough
02:19though it will brighten up in these areas as the rain reaches East Anglia and the south-east
02:24during the middle of the morning and then it clears finally the whole of the UK by lunchtime.
02:29Brighter skies, some sunny spells and actually staying mostly dry after the rain clears across
02:33the Midlands, East Anglia and the south-east. But elsewhere we'll see a rush of showers
02:38move in, plenty of downpours for the north-west of the UK with the air cold enough to lead
02:44to snow over the hills of Scotland and some hail as well as some thunder with gusty winds
02:50making it feel particularly cool. So 8, 9, 10, 11C in the north, 12-14C further south
02:58although with less persistent rain in the north-west perhaps a more pleasant day to
03:01come with the gusty winds carrying through showers in the south it will feel markedly
03:06cooler compared with recent days. The showers continue for a time going into the weekend
03:12but what we will see at the same time into the weekend is higher pressure building up
03:17from the south once again so changeable for a time in the north but eventually we're going
03:23to see the weather settling down Sunday onwards with higher pressure becoming much more dominant
03:28once again.
