Thinking about signing up for a Supercross Futures round? We headed out to the pits in Oakland and for this "Ask A Racer" on some Supercross Futures tips.
Transcript
00:00So my tip would be to kind of expect the, you know, steep faces, a little bit more jumpy
00:10rhythms and, you know, kind of set your bike up for it.
00:13You don't want to show up on a complete soft setting or something and then, you know, hop
00:18into that supercross thing.
00:19So just be ready for it.
00:20If I had to give one piece of advice to the future kids that are racing the, yeah, the
00:26future supercross deal, now bear with me here because I know this is coming from me,
00:31but just calm down.
00:32Just calm down.
00:33What's up, everyone?
00:34If I was going to give you guys a tip for the supercross future, it would just be learn
00:40the track, take your time with it.
00:42I know you guys don't have a whole lot of time, but, you know, get the track dialed
00:46in.
00:47Really, you know, mentally prepare yourself for that.
00:49Maybe even run a few laps just kind of in your mind before you go out there and race.
00:53It just helps that first lap and those nerves, you know, kind of just calm down because,
00:59you know, being in a stadium environment, you know, it can make you nervous at times.
01:03So get that track dialed in and just know the line you're going to take that first lap.
01:09So a tip for somebody tomorrow racing amateurs, don't do anything stupid because the track's
01:14going to be really fast and pretty easy for some of the fast guys.
01:17So the main thing is be safe.
01:19Honestly, I would say the biggest thing is just try to calm yourself.
01:24Don't be nervous.
01:25It's just another track.
01:26And then just being smooth.
01:28Don't try to overextend yourself.
01:29Those big jumps, you know, they don't really matter.
01:33If you do a double here instead of a triple, you're going to be able to make up the time
01:36if you go through those rhythm sections really smooth.
01:39And with all the technology that we have, we've actually learned that sometimes jumping
01:42a little bit lower can be faster.
01:44So don't worry about doing all the big jumps and all the steep stuff.
01:48Do ride within your means and focus on attacking the track.
01:51I think just go out there, have some fun.
01:53Try not to override the track because it seems like that's what's happened with a few kids
01:57the last few weekends.
01:58So go out there, not charge too hard, just let the track come to you and go have fun.
02:02I think I remember me when I was a kid, I wish somebody can tell me that and use it.
02:09Is to be really focused on the race and don't go in the paddock with friends, ride the scooter
02:15or do, you know, hang out.
02:19Don't do that.
02:20Just stay at the track, rest your leg and when it's time to race, focus and have all
02:24the energy focusing on the racing and not on all the activity you can find on the paddock.
02:29I know it's tough when you're a kid, you want to see your friends and hang out, but yeah,
02:34it's not a good idea for a race.
02:37I'd say starts are huge and then going and getting your practice in at the AME Mini Cross.
02:42It's the most realistic thing you're going to get to that.
02:45Make you comfortable and the only thing that's going to change at that point is the stadium
02:48and everything, which you got to go deal with when you get there, but yeah, go get some
02:52reps in.
02:53Perfect.
02:54Really good.
02:55What do you think?
02:56What do you think?
02:57That was a good answer.
02:58I didn't tell him to say that.
02:59That was awesome though.
03:00Shameless sponsor.
03:01He gets an A plus for that.
