Lea Tahuhu shares her opinions on how her side can bounce back after this tough game.
Transcript
00:00Lea, just these tough sort of fielding, bowling experience up there this afternoon?
00:05Yeah, you can say that. I think we know that the, I guess, dimensions here are always a little bit tricky for bowlers.
00:13And look, I think the way that Australia came out in that power play was quite something.
00:17Their ball striking there, I think they were 70 odd after six overs.
00:20So as bowlers, we obviously missed our lines a bit and gave them a little bit too much to be able to hit.
00:24None of the batting is your responsibility, but did it come pretty quickly apparent that you'd probably come in under par?
00:30Yeah, I think we knew we'd come under par straight away, to be fair.
00:33You know, we're always looking to try and push that scoring rate and we probably left a few too many runs out there.
00:38What do you have to do against the short turnaround? Are you still ready to go again on Sunday?
00:42Yeah, really short turnaround. We're obviously travelling to Tauranga tomorrow.
00:45We'll have a bit of a meeting and I guess sort of break that down and have a look at areas that we can improve heading into that next game on Sunday.
00:54Nice to see Melie and Sophie back and through most of the innings. Yeah, I guess a positive going forward?
01:01Yeah, definitely. I think it was really great to see them both out there.
01:04You know, obviously Melie's been playing a lot of cricket lately and that really showed.
01:08I mean, she got into her innings there and then was able to kick on a little bit at the back end.
01:11And look, we know the experience that they bring to our team
01:14and I think they're just going to keep getting better in these next two games as well.
01:17You mentioned the uniqueness of Eden Park.
01:19What did you make of the conditions, both the pitch but also, I guess, playing out there?
01:25Yeah, it's always nice to get to play there, to be fair.
01:27Probably as a pace bowler, you don't enjoy it as much.
01:29But yeah, look, I think we probably just missed our lines a little bit, got hit back over our heads to a 50 metre boundary.
01:35And that's something that we needed to adjust to quicker and we didn't.
01:38But we're obviously playing at a new venue on Sunday.
01:40So, you know, we'll go and we'll discuss the dimensions there and how we want to go about things for that game.
01:46This team's talked about in the past their kind of levelness, whether they're succeeding in winning World Cups or having tougher games.
01:51I guess, yeah, how do they go about, as you mentioned, transitioning into that second match?
01:57Yeah, we've got a really experienced group there.
01:59I think, you know, our leadership group will make sure that we sort of keep it on a level playing field.
02:04It's a very quick turnaround so you can't dwell too much.
02:07Day over, whistle ground?
02:09Yeah, love it. It's nothing like playing up the mountain there.
02:11We've played a lot of games there, so yeah, I think, to be fair, so have the Aussies.
02:15They'll know the conditions as well.
02:16It's just about adapting and adjusting as quick as we can.
02:19How difficult is it to bowl to a player like Beth Mooney?
02:22Yeah, I think she was in a real mood today, wasn't she?
02:24She was dancing down the wicket and sort of hitting it everywhere.
02:26It didn't matter where you put it.
02:27So, look, we know that she's a classy player.
02:29You don't play 200 games for your country for no reason.
02:32And she came out there today and really showed that.
02:34And you've probably seen a bit of Georgia bowl before, but what have you made of her as a player?
02:38Yeah, I think the way that she's sort of come into the Aussie team.
02:41The Aussie team obviously kept an eye on things from over here,
02:43and she's sort of just seemed to fit in seamlessly, hasn't she?
02:46She's got a lot of power, and yeah.
