00:00England starters warming up no sign of Thomas Tuchel just yet out here on the Wembley pitch where we're standing Roy
00:06Did you recognize what he said about England last summer? No identity? No repetition of patterns?
00:11No real excitement about what they were doing more frightened about going out than going further yet
00:16It's a bit harsh that I think because obviously they won a few football matches over
00:19There's a lot of teams who went over that and had a good identity, but they came back before England
00:23So it's well and good talking a good game. They've got a good to perform. Well, yeah, he seems a bit harsh on Gabba
00:29I know where he's coming from. Yeah a certain side of player
00:31They were heavily criticized despite winning lots of football matches
00:33But I still think we should get away from Garrett doing a very good job at England
00:38Do you think he was trying to distance himself from Gareth Southgate in a way with those comments?
00:42I'm not sure. I think I'd probably go more with his
00:46Second language or something. I think he's just very he's very honest. He's brutally honest about what he was saying
00:50I think when you watched us, we remember we changed our midfielder like three times
00:55So maybe that's what he's looking at and he's seen it maybe the way he's he's spoken about it doesn't make doesn't sound great
01:00But I think that he was he was right
01:02We didn't well the time we got to the final we knew Spain exactly how they were gonna play
01:06We wasn't quite sure how we were. So, you know, maybe that's what he was on about. He's got great plan, hasn't he?
01:12He's got a plan. Let's see your pants
01:14Oh, yeah, everyone has a plan till they're punched in the face like Tyson famously said Gabriel's interview certainly set the news agenda
01:19I was really struck about how much he was accentuating the Englishness of English football
01:24And the Premier League my question is do you think it's easier for a German or foreigner to do that than an Englishman?
01:30Do you see what I mean?
01:31Because if an Englishman did that it won't go they're just stereotypical England long road fight to the end
01:35But it take a long time. Yeah, it's almost easier for somebody outside
01:40You can understand what he's saying about the grit and the determination what English football is about what's meant to like the excitement of it
01:45Yes, he probably wants to try and incorporate that in the way he plays. He's met. He's talked about excitement in his game intensity
01:51Yes, and when you watch a good Premier League game English Premier League, it is tight. It's fast
01:55It's very much back and forth and you know getting the ball forward and scoring goals
02:00So you're hoping that they could do that, but you know somebody that in the heat of a world
02:04Exactly. I'll have to change you want every team to have intensity and grit
02:08But again, the challenge is if they qualify for the World Cup
02:11I'm pretty sure they will conditions over there and went to be intense and went to sit back when you're out of possession
02:15That was one of the problems when their phone when they play against the top quality teams particularly teams like Spain
02:20It should be alright in a qualifying group playing with that intensity the conditions
02:23But the bigger picture trying to do it in Mexico or America Canada, obviously be slightly difficult
02:28Yeah, absolutely when it is that hot
02:30I wonder if you think he might work better as an international manager because he is so intense that the players have him for four
02:35Or five days who then we've got three weeks off him rather than 24-7. It might be a bit too much
02:40Yeah, I think he's kind of made that he's got that across himself
02:42I think that is the message he's getting they'd be intense for obviously when there's a double
02:46Two games of the course of eight nine ten days and that might sooner maybe is that right at that stage of his career?
02:50Yeah, he's an intense manager, but he's also said he's obviously calmed down as he got a little bit a bit older
02:55So it's as usual. It's about getting the balance, right? It's very much short-term. What was it?
02:59He was two years at Dortmund 19 months Chelsea. Yeah
03:03But one every time didn't he? Yeah one every time and you know, maybe the international job might suit him
03:08Well, we know that he can fool out with owners and stuff
03:10Maybe the day-to-day dealings is not something that's that that he's he's very what he said
03:14He's Gareth Southgate. It's so many good things for English football off the pitch. Yeah, he's already said Thomas Tuchel
03:19I'm not going anywhere near that. I'm not going anywhere near the politics. Yeah, but you can see that with the fact
03:23He's got 18 months. It's a
03:2860 that's why we probably see more
03:30More yeah, like it's cool. It cool up so that we think well, what's he going on with it?
03:34Because he knows he needs to do it now
03:36Well, he's had an impact already the manager
03:37We think of the first game giving two lads their debuts bringing Russia back and of course bringing Jordan Henderson back in
03:42So clearly he's not worried about what people are thinking. He's there to get results and also be trying when the World Cup
03:47He's already counting it down. There are only 22 training sessions between now and the World Cup
03:51I mean, he is that methodical about what he's doing. Yeah, he's on a high obviously with the week
03:55He's had I think he deserves his opportunity to play for England. He's this least put the yards in in terms of his career
04:00He's doing very well and be interested. He always does tonight the combination with a left-back next. I'm also making his debut
04:06So be it nice challenge for him, but it's very much well-deserved and you know
04:10You wouldn't have a lot of empathy with him. He's been through the lower leagues
04:13He's gonna go here for Yoville town in a playoff match here. Yeah, it was it was it was you kind of got all wrapped up in
04:20The Dan Byrne kind of like vibe about it, you know, we're coming from Bly playing for he's great. He's a
04:26He's team he's team, but like it was great for him, obviously, but like now, you know coming here like Roy said play for England
04:33It's gonna be a tough one for him. We've got some sharp players
04:36It's just it's the way it can change so quickly with football right at the other end of a career Myles Lewis Skelly
04:42You know the young man very well. What sort of character is he? I dare say the beginning of the season
04:46He had a settle for a few Arsenal appearances now
04:48He's gonna play for England
04:49But I think we've seen his character and what's what he's had to go through recently since the time he's come into the team
04:55I don't think his character is anything that I think anyone needs to worry about everything what's going on with him
04:59His ability is obviously there for everyone to see Thomas Tucker
05:03I remember seeing him watching him at City watching him against Spurs two very emotional games and you know
05:08Obviously the bookings people continue talking about stuff, but he's not done anything up to this point
05:12That has not been excellent in the way that he's got into that first team and stayed in there playing the position
05:17That's new to him. Yeah, he's made a few mistakes like a lot of young players
05:20And that's the only way he's going to learn a couple of sending off
05:23She's I've taken off a European game early for getting another booking
05:26But he left to learn from that and again the managers tournament the actual managers played him a big game
05:30There's a bit of trust there. No, he's got it
05:32He's obviously got a bit of trust from the England manager, but he's got to keep in the team
05:34No again, you can't begrudge him the opportunity
05:37I hope he'll take it and Marcus Rashford vindicates his move his low move to Villa at the moment
05:41Does it the way he's playing there and obviously I think so
05:43I don't think he's playing as well as everyone's making. Oh, I think he's got a few assists
05:47He still hasn't scored a goal yet, but he needed it. He needed something new and this he's done it at this level Marcus
05:52There's no surprise. He's getting an opportunity. He's produced it before at this level
05:55But I still think there's a lot more to come for Marcus
05:58You look at the ways it's gone for him at Villa and you can see there's a slow burning of like progression with him
06:03I think this would be a massive boost for him in where he is in where he's playing right now
06:07And obviously a good game back in the England squad, you know, you know
06:10He can carry on the momentum building for him
06:13But I would have to say I think what he's doing is Villa's what he's really good at and he should be doing more
06:16Is that running him behind being a threat that is his strength? He's got a forks on that and do that tonight
06:21What sort of coach does Thomas Tuchel strike you as I think he's one of these
06:26He's a coach he coaches out there he's on there he's very much, you know, we're all the kind of likes things behind the scenes
06:33I've seen him. He's on the pitch with the players on the grass
06:36Talking to them. Obviously, it seems like he's got a nice. He's got a nice way back with the players
06:41It seems like very very firm, but obviously very fair as well. He's intense, isn't it? Yes
06:46Yeah, he admits that he admits that yeah
06:48That's part of his character and obviously I think he'd want his team to play with that play with that intensity
06:53That's the way it comes across and again, he'd be looking for good start tonight
