00:00So I really want to go back to the phones, but can I read read a couple things to you that are fun?
00:04I would love to hear something fun. All right. All right, so so
00:08Uh director of sports puts it. Uh, lucas alexander puts it on twitter
00:11The quote is if you're exhausted where the hell is that going? There's no room for i'm tired
00:18How are you supposed to do what you're trying to do if you're too tired to do it?
00:22That is a general response to the word
00:26Exhaustion based on what the warriors are trying to do. It's a great take it is it's a great take. Thank you very much
00:31Really really appreciate it. Well written
00:33Yeah, so, um, apparently I now hate steph curry. Let's let's let's dip our toe in the water and hear some of the
00:40response tweets
00:43Um that uh that we've got on twitter here at 95 7 the game
00:47Uh, here's one from the last dance
00:49Imagine you're one of the best ever at what you do and you have a bad day and some random person tells you to change
00:55Your sleep schedule on your off days to perform better
01:00Okay, random mark willard. I'd also say tonight is not one of your off days. It's actually a work day. But anyway
01:07um
01:09Let's see, uh, it's one game. Don't get your panties in a knot. Oh panties panties call out
01:16They've lost two games since jimmy
01:19I know you guys got to say outlandish things for clickbait
01:23But whatever credibility you think you have
01:27Is rapidly diminishing go on
01:30Panties and credibility. That's a two-piece. I want to say hello to emad
01:35Willard sucks at his job
01:38Almost feel like everyone on air won a contest to get on
01:42Why is guru gotta get strays? Yeah, he's not even here catching strays. What the hell?
01:49Yeah, that's not okay. I'm not okay. Uh dark ma. Shut up. There's a reason why no one is listening to that station
01:58Say hello to someone who has not been getting the ratings lately. Oh, um, hello
02:04Look at you the scoreboard little flex. It's bothering me
02:07Me
02:09um, let's see what else we got, uh
02:13Soul from the o says one game hold your horses. They weren't going to go undefeated the rest of the season
02:19Sigh, yeah, hold your horses over there. Yeah
02:22Well, i'm i've been sighing the whole show. Oh and then carlos said willard is the goat
02:27This was one person. That's nice
02:31Thank you carlos on the payroll
02:33Yeah
02:35So that's what we're getting that's what we're getting
02:37He's the gemo. That's what we're getting from me. Essentially saying I don't think you get
02:43unfortunately
02:44The situation that you're in does not allow for we're gonna have to sit down the stretch because we're tired
02:50It just like I it's not gonna work. It's not gonna work
02:53You like you are in a situation where you have got to go win
02:58Almost all of the games not all but almost all you don't know that it's not going to work
03:04And what you also don't know is that resting a player
03:08It might actually portend to him playing better when he gets back on the court
03:12and that's something that I will defer to the great doctor rick celebrini and
03:18In his wisdom because yes
03:20They understand that steph curry is their best player and they understand that having him play and play decent
03:26Leads to them winning basketball games
03:28but if you look at what he did last night and how he played and if you think that he is exhausted and that he
03:35would benefit from
03:36Tuesday off wednesday off then you play thursday
03:40Then you get what friday off again, and then I don't know one game in five nights
03:44If you think that that's going to help him play better on thursday, then i'm all for him. Okay?
03:48Yeah, but again his words i'm fine. I want to play of course. Those are his words
03:55Those are his words, but he doesn't he doesn't get to make that choice
03:58I I think he should have a say you think tjd is is well rested right now
04:02I mean, I don't even know why that's relevant. It's relevant because he i'm sure is saying he's fine
04:07Right is not that great of a basketball player when compared to steph curry
04:11So, I mean, I guess what if I said this look they're coming off of an off night
04:17why would taking tonight and tomorrow off suddenly mean that steph is just
04:21Bouncy and refreshed on thursday, why did he have an off night last night?
04:25I don't know. You've been making the point that he's had a bunch of bad off nights
04:29Well, he's had five straight games where he hasn't been as effective as he had been in the previous 10
04:34So 48 hours from now, he's suddenly going to be totally healed. He might be maybe he sits out thursday, too
04:40Yeah, I don't know what his ailments are. I just know this when you have
04:45a coaching staff and a medical team that has been
04:49pretty damn awesome with
04:51managing
04:51Steph curry's minutes and also managing the roster
04:54I give them more than the benefit of the doubt and you're your guy who's always about giving benefit of the doubt
05:00I'm, not not giving them the benefit. I know and I understand you're talking about urgency word
05:05exhaustion
05:06Doesn't fit what they're trying to do in my opinion
05:10Well, you could be exhausted on a monday and you could be fresher on a thursday if you get three days off
05:16You know you could and i'm not saying he's going to come back bouncy and hang 56
05:21But I just look at the way he's played over the last four or five and he hasn't looked as bouncy
05:27He hasn't been as explosive and last night for me
05:31Was a pretty stark example, of course steph's going to say he wants to play
05:35He's not going to ever go to the podium and say you know what i'm exhausted and I can't wait to fake an injury
05:41He also dismissed the idea that last night was because of exhaustion again listen to what he said I feel fine
05:49Obviously I didn't play
05:50Great at all. So everybody's gonna including coach is gonna try to figure out why and mostly the turnovers
05:57Dumb plays all night, but had a really good run. You expect to have a level of consistency and whatnot
06:04So when it doesn't happen becomes a question
06:06I feel like more more of my back when I was dealing with the last couple of days see how that responds tomorrow
06:12Otherwise feel feel pretty solid. Yeah, I mean
06:14Steph to me is insinuating there that like I know that I had a bad game
06:18So you're looking for a reason why but that ain't it. I just played bad and I accept that
06:23He's steph curry. He's allowed an off night
06:26but whether or not
06:28It's because something's physically wrong or because he's out of gas
06:32I like I I can't know that he's saying that's not it
06:36Like right. Those are his words, right?
06:39He I mean and he's an athlete and he is a soldier and he's a guy who's gonna go out there
06:44And he wants to compete so I don't think that he's ever going to come out and say short of having an actual
06:51Injury, and i'm reading it here on espn. He's been ruled out to manage a back issue according to anthony slater of the athletics
06:58So it's rest, but it's also to manage the back issue
07:03Maybe he woke up today and the back didn't feel 100%
07:06So they're going to be precautionary and they're just going to sit him out. Let's go to mike and hayward. Hi mike
07:11Thanks for calling. We're taking your calls 888-957-9570. Hey mike
07:16Yeah, you guys you know you guys already said that they weren't going to put out nobody's going to win every game
07:21They played it last week. What team was going to do that? Maybe oklahoma
07:25No
07:26And if the thing is if it's game by game and who stayed home
07:30Curry's engines backs been bothered. He was out there trying to play the way. Yeah, it was probably bothered
07:36You probably should have rested last night
07:39Right, but he did
07:41So, you know, you got injuries all these little my engines and it was as far as draymond green come up
07:46And I have to stuff the draymond greens. I don't hardly even listen to him while he's exhausted
07:50So what he's just saying stuff that nobody else is going to say on them other teams are trying to get it trying to make
07:55It to the playoffs. So we it's just two things that really count
07:59How many games they win and how healthy each team stays each each team each team is the last 14 games
08:05There's nothing nobody else to discuss
08:08Watch every game
08:10Because as soon as they lose a game, oh, well, we don't know what we don't know. We never do nobody
08:15Didn't even go with all these games two months ago, right?
08:18Okay, you can't predict you really can't predict how many games any team is going to win
08:23And in the last 14 games, I don't know what the odds are predicting that is but they're pretty low
08:28So I think we just watch like Steph said every game is a game and you're going to have the same thing going on
08:34The last 14 games you have during the breaking season people are going to be hurt
08:37There's going to be there's going to be arresting all that still goes off. So draymond green talking about the exhaustive
08:42So what great I don't use to draymond green says too much people. He's just saying stuff that nobody else will say
08:49There's another players that will probably say they're exhausted and they probably are
08:53Because they're older the older players are probably are exhausted
08:56They're not the young guys running around if they got a guard they play with a bunch of young guys
09:01So you can expect them to be tired
09:03Okay, so so the conversation is how long can they win?
09:07And stay healthy and not be and not be so-called exhausted. All right, that's all I gotta say
09:13Yeah, mike. I don't I don't disagree with anything that he just said
09:16but to me that's like
09:19That that's what we're coming down to
09:21If the conversation since jimmy butler joined the warriors and I think largely it has been
09:27It's been about belief right? It's been about their belief. It's been about our belief
09:32It's like are you in or you out on the idea?
09:36Of the warriors making a run you you've openly stated you've reached the point of you would be disappointed
09:42If they didn't at least advance out of the first round of the playoffs. Well, that's an expectation
09:49Yeah, and and it's been raised and my my response to that is if you've reached a point in the season where now
09:57Exhaustion is going to be a part of the conversation
10:00I don't know how you can expect anything
10:03I don't know how we can expect this team to advance in the playoffs if they're going to get to late march
10:10And and say you know, this is this is this is just too it's too much
10:15It's too much because unfortunately, there's no wiggle room they've not been able in the first
10:21Whatever 65 to 70 some odd games of the year. They've not been able to create any breathing room
10:27So, how does that all blend together? No breathing room and exhaustion?
10:31Well, they've got breathing room as far as being out of the play-in
10:36And they're almost assured to be in the play-in right now. Yes. Yes. Yes
10:40When you say out of the play-in you mean they're not going to be the 11th seed, right?
10:44They have a seven and a half game lead on phoenix right now
10:46So and they've got 14 to go and they're up by seven and a half on phoenix. So that is some wiggle room
10:52It's not ideal. It's not anything that anybody really wants draymond said it. We don't want to be in the play-in
10:59Steve has said it the goal is to succeed
11:01So when you're trying to get to the six seed and you've got 14 games left to go you may not be able to play
11:08Everybody balls to the wall all 14 games and we've talked about steph curry at 37
11:14And you know steph can say, you know, I feel fine. I just played badly
11:18I I don't you know, I don't feel tired or whatever and they could look at it in a different way and say
11:22Yeah, what we see is five straight games where you haven't been hitting your shot. You've been turning it over more often
11:29You haven't looked great
11:30Maybe one game would do you some good and you come back on thursday a little bit more refreshed and I do think that
11:37Exhaustion is not a permanent
11:40Affliction it's temporary and if he is
11:44Exhausted and he doesn't think so, but maybe rick celebrini and the front office and the medical people
11:49They do think that I think that you can you can mitigate that with a few days off. I mean, what's different?
11:55Why why like if you're gonna put it that way?
11:58um
11:59And hold for a second you're listening to 95 7 the game kgmz fm and hd1 san francisco and odyssey sports station
12:05That's doing very well
12:06By the way, always live on the free odyssey app and now come to you live from the laughing monk studios
12:12Thank you laughing and I am laughing. Um, okay
12:16What's what's new?
12:19Like these guys have been through this journey many many many times before
12:23and sure
12:25There is calculated rest
12:27But that's often come at times when there's wiggle room
12:31Um, why why suddenly exhausted now and if your answer is
12:38Well, he's 37
12:40Then then that's my response then expect the warriors to go out and play well tonight without him
12:45I think they can win the game
12:47So they can win the game and he could come back thursday and we could end up never talking about this again
12:52That's one scenario in terms of how this plays out
12:55But I think everybody has held the same concern coming down the stretch which is are these old bodies going to hold up
13:03And well, I'd argue the conversation that took place last night is not a good one
13:07If that's the number one concern, I think you can look at it both ways and you have a 37 year old and
13:14If you look at the minutes, he's played five games on the road five games at home
13:19They've had 10 games since the end of february 10 games in roughly 20 days in six different cities and he's had to play
13:2734 35 minutes a night and he's had to kind of carry the load
13:31He had 56 at orlando. You needed every one of those points
13:35He had to dig deep against brooklyn in a game where you fell down 27 to 5
13:40And he wound up with 32 in that one. He had actually had 40 in brooklyn. I'm, sorry. He had 28 in new york
13:46He's had to carry a pretty heavy burden and he's come home and the last five games I watch him play
13:53And he hasn't been as good as he was in the road trip. No
13:57But I mean, this is what he does
13:59He's like, I don't know sometimes it sounds like all of a sudden we're like this is totally new that steph has to carry the warriors
14:06No, but it's this is what nba ones do and it's what he's done brilliantly for over a decade
14:11But he's 37 and find me another 37 year old nba one who doesn't sit out games. Well, lebron
14:19Is down in la chilling?
14:21He's going to his kids high school game instead of playing basketball. Did he actually get hurt?
14:25Did he I don't know nor do I but I know this I don't know if steph is either
14:30I know this lebron's not playing basketball or didn't he hadn't been well, then then that can be restful
14:36Okay, but then if that's and this is my point if that's your answer
14:40If well, hold on mark, they're 37 and 40 respectively. Well, then pop the brakes on this
14:46They're going to all meet in the western conference finals and somebody's going to go to try to win a championship
14:52No, then you're not going to beat oklahoma city if that's your answer
14:55Well, you might if you're more rested if you're not exhausted if you're exhausted, you probably won't beat
15:00I just I don't I don't even know how how are they going to get there?
15:05If they've all like look what the lakers have done in the standing since lebron took this rest
15:11They've gone from like two to five
15:13Yeah, well another four right now, but four
15:16Yeah, but they they have a little bit more of a cushion so they can play around with it
15:20The warriors don't maybe maybe the lakers are three and a half up on the seven-seated minnesota
15:26So they have a cushion and they've got lakers have 15 games left to go
15:31So you're playing with fire a little bit you sure are but you got a cushion the warriors don't have that cushion exactly
15:37Well at the same time you do want to have the best version of steph that you can no question
15:42And this as you mentioned tonight will be game four and six nights
15:48If i'm not mistaken, right and you know, he's 37
15:51So it's it's okay to maybe give the 37 year old guy a game off
15:56Yeah, but you know what thursday night is that will be four games in six nine four and six nights, right?
16:02It's just but not not for him
16:04Great that's the point great and and and so if i'm to believe
16:08That one extra night off, which is not even all that abnormal on the nba schedule is going to change his physicality
16:16Wonderful, then yes do it and again i i've said this over and over that's their decision
16:22They're educated on it. They're with him. They know he knows so this is not a criticism of the decision
16:28This is a curiosity based on the words chosen by steve kerr last night
16:34which is the idea of
16:36Exhaustion and and and where that fits in to what the warriors are trying to do
16:41When other warriors steph included are saying this is urgent. This is every night. These all feel like playoff games
16:49We desperately want to avoid the play-in tournament. I just don't know where that fits
16:54You know again if the back hurts the back hurts, what do you do?
16:57Then you sit and maybe that's actually what's going on. I leave open for that
17:01I just don't know and it to me. It's actually what draymond said
17:05Hey, steph's tired. We're all tired. You figure it out
17:09You got to figure it out. It's you know, if it sounds like tough love, okay
17:13That's not what i'm trying to have it sound like but that's sort of the assignment
17:18You got to go do it somehow
17:20um
17:21Joe in san jose. Hey, joe. Thanks for calling
17:24Hey guys, thanks for taking my call
17:26um
17:28Uh, the warriors were in that game. They had a shot at winning that game. I mean
17:33And they came down. I I just think that the warriors beat themselves with the turnovers killed them
17:39Even though curry had a bad night
17:41If you don't get those turnovers, who knows that the warriors could have won that game, but that was a really good game
17:47They fought hard
17:49and about that, um about
17:52Exhausted he get paid
17:54There's no excuse if you get his paycheck his paycheck doesn't say where we're not gonna pay you because you're exhausted
17:59So he get paid. So what do you guys think about that? Well, uh, joe, uh, thanks very much
18:05It's paid. Anyway, right play player. Don't play exhausted or fresh or the rest of it
18:10I just say it this way because you know
18:12We we've all had a lot of conversations about load management the last few years and it doesn't sit well with fans
18:19I think most of us have sort of made peace with it because we have no choice
18:23But it does it's interesting to me that we get to a conversation like this
18:28And and so many fans who criticize load management throughout the year
18:34Then when it sort of lands with their favorite player
18:37Then they'll defend it
18:38And and I want to be careful here because i'm not going to call this load management. I don't know what it is
18:45You know last night. He said his back has been bothering him. All right, that's not load management
18:50That's my back hurts and so we're going to sit out a game and and and and you know, take caution
18:56That's that's fine
18:58But it is funny to me how many people it's like you you all hate load management
19:03We've gotten a lot of texts from people who are on their way to the game tonight. They're super bummed
19:08Yeah, stef curry's not playing yannis tonight. That was the thought no doubt, you know and same last night
19:14You were the first to say dude huge bummer
19:17Big time that yo kitchen murray aren't playing tonight's a bummer as well. And what jamal murray did last night's a joke
19:24It's a joke. There should be dynamic pricing on your way out of the arena
19:29Not even just pricing like how about the net dynamic pricing for espn?
19:33How much do they pay for a contract to broadcast games the guys won't play in? Yeah
19:39Like it's a total joke
19:42But when it comes to your neighborhood, we still we defend it now all we need we need a night off
19:47Well, it just depends on the situation
19:49Of course and I look at stef curry and what he's done this year and he's played in
19:53I want to get the number right 59 games. So
19:56For me if you have a player who's played in 59 of 60
20:00What 65 games 68? He's done a great job. He's played in all but nine
20:05So if he wants to take a night off I get it that my problem with load management is when it's done
20:11On moss where you sit like three and four guys all together and the league has tried to eradicate that you mentioned before
20:18Kobe and michael and I just wanted to refresh my own memory
20:22Kobe's last year was when he was 37 and that was the i'm gonna shoot every time down the floor here
20:28You covered that team michael. Jordan actually didn't play when he was 35 36 or 37
20:34His 38 and 39 year old years were with washington. Sure. So those were years that were largely
20:40Ceremonial anyway, so was so was kobe's head completely
20:44Playing for a good team that was trying to do something, right?
20:47And so I do think that in this case players are playing longer and so stef's in not completely uncharted territory
20:54But as a runaround athlete who is expected to do as much as he is
21:00I'm gonna i'm willing to give him i'm giving him the benefit even though it's milwaukee and it's a big game
21:05These are totally fair points. They're totally fair points
21:08I think that that's it's subtle but that's sort of different than than what i'm getting at and I know
21:15Apparently i'm failing wildly at this. Are you buried the guy on twitter to make this not about stef?
21:21It's about the idea of exhaustion
21:24And if you're going to say that that's in our space if a head coach is going to be like
21:31Exhaustion there's exhaustion in the room with our best player right now on march 17th. If you're going to say that
21:38That's fine
21:39I can't argue with you
21:41But I can certainly change my expectation
21:44In terms of where this is going next
21:46I don't know how you say
21:48Hey, we're gonna we're hoping we're definitely thinking we can play till may we're hoping that we can play till june
21:56if if you sit here today
21:59and and
22:00on some level
22:02Express that you're your top players out of gas
22:05That's all
22:06It's fair. It's fair to think that but much like all of us in our life
22:10Some days you're exhausted and you get nine hours of sleep and you wake up and you're like, yeah
22:15I feel better, you know, or maybe you have an off day or you have a stretch three or a stretch four where
22:20you know, I kind of created that where you have the monday off on a
22:24Company holiday and you take the friday before it's a stretch four and sometimes you get back on that tuesday
22:28It's like yeah, i'm not exhausted anymore. I can't wait to hear mark willard bury stef curry again
22:37What I do
22:39Go to twitter. Yeah, willard's down in the chef. Okay. I know
