00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was the first to distribute cash gifts to senior citizens today.

00:07The President also encouraged the public to take advantage of the times when your loved ones are still with you.

00:13This is what Kenneth Paciente has to say.

00:18No senior citizen will be left behind.

00:20That is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gave as well as the distribution of cash gifts for the loved ones.

00:27The President himself gave cash grants to the beneficiaries of Republic Act No. 11982 or the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024

00:37where 14 beneficiaries were given cash gifts.

00:40These included three 80-year-olds and three 85-year-olds.

00:44The five 90-year-olds received P10,000.

00:48While the three 100-year-olds received P100,000.

00:53According to the President, this is just a way for the government to recognize the contribution of the elderly

00:59that he became a guide and mentor for many on how to live.

01:03They are our supporters.

01:06They are the ones who brought us into and to understand how to deal with the world and how to deal with life.

01:15And for that, we will all be eternally grateful.

01:20That is why every line on your skin and every strand of white hair is a part of our history.

01:30Fellow countrymen, we are here today to give glory to our elders.

01:37The President also gave the privileges that senior citizens can receive

01:42including discounts on the distribution of water and electricity,

01:45as well as medicines and other necessities.

01:49However, he emphasized that there are many more things that need to be done for senior citizens

01:53that the government is working on,

01:56including social pension, residential care facilities of the DSWD,

02:01and other programs and projects of the National Commission of Senior Citizens.

02:05In the new Philippines, we aspire to bring to life our elders with dignity and dignity.

02:12They deserve nothing less than our love, our care, our protection,

02:18our respect, and our honor.

02:21That is why we are doing our best to make the situation of our senior citizens better.

02:29The Chief Executive also asked the families of senior citizens to be kind.

02:35To the families of our elders,

02:38please take care of each moment they are with you.

02:42Please show compassion because the time will come

02:47that you will also find respect and kindness from your children or grandchildren.

02:53For our youth,

02:56you will be the ones to continue the knowledge taught by our ancestors.

03:04Use it to build a brighter future.

03:13Some senior citizens were pleased to learn about this from the government.

03:17I can buy my medicine and food.

03:23I will just share it with me and my grandchildren who are still young.

03:29Most welcome because it's the first time I will experience this.

03:34And for my age, it's a great help.

03:37Do you have any plans where you will use the money?

03:41Well, so many things to spend for.

03:45You know now everything is going up.

03:47In the end, the President urged the senior citizens not to think that they are no longer important to society.

03:53Today, 1,079 beneficiaries were given the so-called cash gift throughout the country

03:59which is worth 12,050,000 pesos.

04:03But the target of the program this year is to reach more than 275,000 beneficiaries

04:09where it is estimated that 2.9 billion pesos will be distributed.
