00:00I listen to this quote from Shams quote
00:03He does feel like this organization is better than any other
00:08Organization he's been a part of but I'm telling you it's different this time
00:11I haven't sensed the same feeling he's had when he went to Philly when he went to Miami
00:16This is different for Jimmy Butler going to Golden State. He's staying late for shootarounds
00:23He's staying late for practices. He's spending so much time in the training room the meal room
00:29He's going above and beyond to ingratiate himself with the Warriors right now and quote
00:37Yeah, I mean the honeymoon is
00:40Like we're knee-deep and and and I get that that's wonderful. I'm not taking a shot at it
00:45Is that gonna last I don't know but I don't know but to me that's worthwhile to enter into this conversation
00:51it is and I think about a presidency, maybe not this one, but a
00:57Presidency we talked about the first hundred days
00:59And so the first hundred days of Jimmy Butler would take us through the end of the regular season
01:05And you know, we don't normally judge a presidency or at least we used to not do this nowadays and social media
01:11It's like, you know, ah day one. You're a bum. I love you. You're my guy
01:16MAGA
01:18Impeachment whatever you want to do now, we do it after like 12 minutes, but it used to be a hundred days
01:24So for Jimmy Butler a hundred days would be the end of this year
01:28And then we can take a deep breath and take a look and see
01:31What it was like and the honeymoon and all the rest of it, but so far they are winning
01:36Yeah, he's playing great. The other guys around him are also playing great. The vibes are great
01:42You're moving up the standings like what more do you want?
01:45well
01:45and again to respond to the the the comments that we just played from Steve Ashburner of NBA calm and NBA TV when he said
01:53Basically and we had a bunch of text come in say that was a horrible analogy
01:57When he likened the Warriors to a spouse that undercuts his or her spouse
02:04like when one what like a mom or dad is trying to punish a kid and
02:08And the other parent comes in and goes. Oh, no, they didn't do anything wrong. It's fine
02:13Forget that the Warriors in heat are not married. They compete with one another
02:19So on one hand he says boy the Warriors is a low-class move
02:24To undercut the heat because of Jimmy's behavior in the next breath
02:29He's got the goal to say this. Yeah, I mean from a basketball standpoint. I mean, I gotta be honest
02:35I mean, I think it's a very good fit and if he's motivated and he's showing up and actually playing games
02:39I mean his nights off became an issue with the heat as well. But if he's after playing games
02:44I mean, I think he's a great fit there. He's a nice compliment
02:47You know for a team that gets a lot of attention for its three-point game and has so for you know
02:51The better part of a decade. I'm glad it didn't but the interview should have ended there. That's it. Thanks Dave
02:57Appreciate it. That's what we're here to do
03:00That's what we're here to do. Now. If the guy is out here committing crimes in the streets. We have a different conversation
03:06But the Golden State Warriors are not in the business of punishing themselves
03:11Because somebody halfway across the world is in a fight with Pat Riley
03:17What an odd odd way to look at sports, right? Right? I mean, it's not a
03:23Fraternity in terms of like how do I make myself better?
03:26Well, we can't make ourselves better because they're mad at Jimmy Butler and Jimmy's holding them hostage
03:32So we can't possibly trade for Jimmy Butler and here's the other idea. All right, Jimmy wants out so badly and
03:40Phoenix won't work because you know
03:43Beal won't move and KD won't come here and all the other things that broke down and you get into the the final day of
03:51Negotiations and it's like well Miami is still desperate to move him and we are still
03:56Desperate. Yeah to get better. So what can we do?
04:00Wiggins and three other guys and a pick and you know
04:04We're gonna bring in this team and we're gonna trade Dennis Schroeder four different times and sorry Dennis
04:09You get your frequent flyer miles, but you're going to Utah and you're going to Miami and you're going to wherever he wound up
04:15I think you want to
04:17He's a player too. Yeah, they're playing they beat those Clippers last night
04:22Yeah, thanks Dennis. And do they still have Detroit on the schedule or the Warriors? Yeah, have they played him twice already?
04:28Uh, you know what? Oh, no, they I know they do March 8th
04:32Saturday March 8th Detroit is here Schroeder revenge game Schroeder video. Yeah, like I mean or tribute video
04:38We got Luka tonight and then Schroeder on March 8th the biggest revenge games remaining on the NBA schedule, right?
04:45And and I wonder like, you know, and this is a question for Raven Ritter at what level do you give a guy a
04:52Tribute video ladies and gentlemen, welcome back for the first time Dennis Schroeder
04:57Schroeder they could literally play all of his 20 games. Yeah and fit it into the video
05:04Actually, we're gonna play his entire career if you come early we'll show you all of Dennis's shots and I wonder
05:11He doesn't get the video
05:13but I wonder if he at least gets a
05:15like at the first time out in the first quarter what your fans just for the first time if you could sit down and
05:22quietly nod for Dennis Schroeder
05:26No, I don't think he does. I don't think the Warriors. I mean, we don't have to put our hands together
05:30But no, can we at least like, you know, he's getting minutes out there. Yeah, he's getting some minutes minutes everywhere
05:36Let me let me see what he did last night for the Pistons by helping the Warriors with a win by nine
05:42Over the Clippers shooter had 19 minutes off the bench. Oh and he filled it up with seven points
05:48Okay, five of them from the three-point line or a free-throw line. He was a plucky one for six from the field
05:55Dennis Schroeder two rebounds four assists. Shout-out Christy your fiance for plucky. Yeah, she'll love that
06:01Yes, not one of her later. I'm not listening to this hour. But anyway, we'll go to Leo. Let's go to Leo
06:07He's on 880 on Willard and Dave's 888-957-9570. How's this all hitting you Butler's history his attitude?
06:14There's some Draymond sound about this whole thing that we really have to play for you. We'll do it in a second
06:19But hey Leo, what's up? Thanks for calling
06:22Hey, thanks for taking my call, you know, and I guess I saw this totally different from that other caller because
06:28what I always thought all along is this was Golden State Warriors and
06:35Butler
06:36Co I don't want to use the word colluding but colluding to drive down
06:40the assets Golden State had to give away to get Butler because
06:46Look feel wasn't ever going to be moved from anybody on Phoenix
06:50So that wasn't practical you're gonna move Kevin Durant and you're not gonna ask him like Steph Curry's not gonna text him
06:56Do you want to come here? That was a joke what they were doing with Pat Riley, and I think he knew it is
07:02Making sure Butler couldn't go anywhere and doing that high-stakes
07:07Poker, but Butler was coming here all along
07:10So it was all about
07:11Whether we had to give this whole thing was do we have to give up coming good to get Butler or not?
07:16Huh, and the Warriors why I mean to me. Yeah, I mean Leo. It's an interesting take and
07:23Obviously, there's all kinds of twists and turns behind the scenes that none of us really know about Leo appreciate it
07:30Essentially if that were to be true, that means all of those reports where Jimmy was like not
07:36Going to sign an extension with Golden State those are untrue
07:39And and I'll tell you why I see it a little bit differently like when he said look you're not gonna trade Kevin Durant
07:46Without asking him. Well. Yeah, they were the Suns were the Mavericks did it traded their star without asking
07:53I think the Suns absolutely agreed to trade Kevin Durant, but then yes Steph called to check on him
08:00Kevin said he didn't want to do it now the Warriors could have still acquired him right he would have come played
08:05but they chose not to do it so
08:09Look, I don't know. I don't know. I wasn't in on these meetings. Maybe Leo's got the whole conspiracy theory all set
08:14I don't know, but I don't feel I don't feel like this was a high-powered move just to get to Golden State
08:22I don't think that that's the way it fell right
08:23I think that it was a high-powered move by Jimmy to get money and
08:27Once it was pretty clear that Phoenix wouldn't be able to move Kevin to bring in
08:32Jimmy because if Phoenix brought in Jimmy they would have had to give him an extension otherwise Jimmy Butler's not going anywhere
08:38I mean you could trade him
08:39But then he can go to his new team and just go into full Jimmy mode and say I got a hammy
08:44I got a groin. I got an adductor
08:48My toe whatever it is my my neck in my back
08:51It's easy for a player to you know beg out of games based on any injury or you know
08:59Mythological injury and so I do think that it broke the way it broke because
09:03The whole Phoenix thing fell apart and then Miami still was highly motivated to trade him and Golden State was the one team still with
09:11assets and
09:12The willingness to try to get him in yeah
09:15Here's here's kind of what I would really credit Mike Donnelly be with
09:19Did he get a break or two or three Paul George Laurie marketing Kevin Durant?
09:25Did he get a break maybe but here's the word for me where Mike Dunleavy deserves a ton of credit and the word is
09:33Patience and and and it paid off for him here because when Jonathan Kaminga goes down
09:38The Warriors start losing basketball games if you if you watch this thing like in the month of January
09:46When when Kaminga goes out and they start really struggling, right?
09:50They've lost seven of ten when the Lakers come here on January 25th
09:55and the Warriors record falls under 500 at 22 and 23 is
10:00January 25th and
10:02The deadline is just right around the corner
10:08But he waits
10:09He waits they call Kevin Durant. He doesn't want to come he doesn't force it like in the face of
10:16continued losses and
10:19Let's be honest moments where it felt like the season was totally slipping away the Warriors in
10:26A desperate moment didn't panic and they could have they probably could have they could have panicked
10:31But they didn't they waited they waited they waited and then something
10:35Something presented itself to them and and and they said yes
10:38And look at lo and behold in two weeks and in one of the weeks
10:43They didn't even play basketball in two weeks. All of a sudden the five or the six seed feels inevitable in this moment
10:51I mean the season literally felt like it was about over. Yeah weeks ago
10:54It was in trouble and then I do think that a lot of it was media created and I put the media on
11:01you and me and you know Bonte and Joe and
11:04Stiney and guru and all the rest of it because what do we create we created Zion in Ingram?
11:10Levine well Vucevich cam Johnson LeBron
11:15KD Jimmy Butler, you don't think that all of those players were brought up in at least phone calls
11:20I'm not saying they weren't but what I'm saying is that in terms of the public purview and the public perception of
11:28Like what was really being pursued and we go through one by one
11:32Brandon Ingram to me. No knows a non-starter. He and the coach don't see eye to eye Zion Williamson
11:39Even though it was kind of a buy-low
11:41Because of his contract you can get out of it. I don't believe that the Warriors saw him as a
11:47Basketball fit. I don't believe the Pelicans made him available. Okay. I don't even think he was available. Let's keep going
11:53Yeah, LeBron James. I mean that's a pie in the sky LeBron, but that popped up like it pops up
11:59But LeBron, you know who but in that case he has all the control, right?
12:04So LeBron
12:05If he wants it Zach Levine and we know exactly and you and I are saying no and I can only imagine what they're saying
12:12Inside the Warriors facility because they see what he is and Zach is a great he's like a Jordan pool plus
12:20He'll get you 24 and you'll go 30 and 52 and it's like damn Levine. He's a bucket getter
12:27He'll go 9 to 23
12:29Every single night that doesn't fit here Levine was a no and then the Cam Johnson and the Vucevich. I do think that they were
12:37Attractive, but the Warriors were looking for more. They were looking for big game
12:41So if you take Levine Vucevich Johnson out
12:46Zion Ingram LeBron out it comes down to KD and Jimmy Butler and KD
12:52They were you know, I'm gonna borrow from our friend Philip Pony from Pittsburgh, they were at the one-yard line now
12:59they were right there and
13:01That thing didn't actually consummate. It was not a consummation. They got spooked
13:05They got spooked and for good reason got spooked
13:08Well, no
13:09I think the Warriors got spooked by the idea of Kevin not wanting to be here, right?
13:14Like they went through all of these conversations with the idea that Kevin would come back and would be happy about it
13:20Yeah, because it is a better basketball situation. That would be a better chance to win
13:24But sure
13:25I think he's surprised like he got a phone call from Steph Curry and then curry after that phone call probably called Mike Dunleavy
13:31And went dude, it's a no from him dog. Yeah, like that's not what we thought
13:35We're gonna answer was not yet or not now. Yes, which I do think is kind of fun
13:39It sure is fun for the future
13:41but we you know when all of that happens when there's like
13:45Names that were out there that were absolute no's and other names that were not available
13:50It boils down to Kevin or Jimmy and when Kevin says nah not now you pivot to Jimmy and it's like it's it's Jimmy
13:58What can we do to make this happen?
14:00So I do think the Dunleavy process was probably a lot more streamlined than what we thought like, you know cam and Vujovic
14:08I'm sure he made calls, but it was more I would imagine calls of like hey, you know
14:13What would it take just in case you know, we get to our plan B because they're plan B guys
14:18Well, they were already on the phone with Miami cuz my Jimmy was in the Kevin Durant deal, too
14:23Right, you're gonna end up in Phoenix. So these teams are already on the phone with each other
14:27They're dealing with one another and and yes, it was a pivot now did the Warriors know all along boy?
14:33This is plan B if the Kevin thing falls through we'll just go direct to Miami
14:37Maybe they knew or maybe it showed up with 48 hours to go and Jimmy did an about-face and his agent said yeah
14:44Actually, Jimmy will do an extension there
14:46You got your hundred eleven million dollars ready to go because if Phoenix isn't gonna work out
14:52So if you got your hundred eleven, we'll do that and trust us when we get there
14:56We'll tell everybody that's what we wanted all along and this is the best thing we've ever found in the whole world and all the NBA
15:03Teams, this is incredible. We love it
15:05Steph Curry is a god and I never wanted to be anywhere but here and I don't ever want to leave
15:10That's what we'll say you guys good with it. Okay, ready break. Maybe it went that way
15:14I I don't know to what level the Warriors had their chess pieces all laid out
15:21But we do know like they were working on this round the clock for weeks
15:26Weeks and weeks and weeks and I believe with the idea in mind that they absolutely had to do something right something and something big
15:34And that's where I think that the Cam Johnson and the Nikola Vucevic was, you know
15:39if in the 11th hour
15:40These things totally broke apart like Kevin was a no and Jimmy went somewhere else and it's just not gonna happen
15:47then maybe they would have pivoted to that at the last minute like, you know Schroeder was gonna be dealt and
15:53You know
15:54Kylie Anderson was probably to be dealt and did you have to throw in a couple of seconds for cam or?
15:59One second for Nikola Vucevic maybe I do think that those deals were probably backburner like plan C
16:06But all eyes were on Kevin and Jimmy and when Kevin was a no, it's like, all right, Jimmy
16:12Yeah, and Jimmy's not going to Phoenix. So Jimmy's got to go somewhere and here we are and I know Jimmy would sign with us
16:19So that's when I think that plan a became plan B or plan B became plan a or however you want to do it
16:25Let's go Jonathan in the city. Hi Jonathan. Thanks for calling. What's going on, man?
16:30Hey, thanks for taking a phone call. You know what man just honestly, I don't care about Jimmy's past
16:36All I care about is the present and what the future holds man
16:40Don't take it from me man. Take it from the odds maker the white guy. Look at the point spread tonight
16:45It's minus 16 and a half. You know what that means? We're back in the mix
16:50Hey, just a this guy the destiny brought to us
16:55If they're healthy, we're gonna be partying on Father's Day
17:01Whoa, well Jonathan, I will say this I
17:05Yeah, lock it in Jonathan. Thank you
17:07I want to pour any water on the excitement that spread tonight has a little bit less
17:12To do with the Warriors a little bit more to do with who they're playing by the way
17:16It's not 16 and a half anymore. It's 17 and a half
17:19Lamella ball is out
17:20And if you watch what the Hornets have done their last couple of games out
17:24They can't even stay on the floor with teams like they can't even get to the third quarter
17:28and so
17:29That's why the Warriors are massive favorites tonight
17:32But Jonathan's point is not an empty one like yes the odds makers that you were talking about yesterday
17:38With the fact that the Warriors are now the fourth or the fifth favorite in the West
17:41To make the NBA Finals and come out of the West doesn't mean their favorite. This is still highly unlikely
17:47But yeah, yeah like people with basketball minds are looking at this and going oh, oh
17:54All right. This works a little bit better more seamlessly than maybe we we thought it was right
18:00And so to me a flimsy point to then come in on the back end of this and we're only six games in
18:05but to come in with this level of a warning of
18:10Like Jimmy will explode. I promise you will explode. This was an immature move to even get him
18:16There's no way it can work his behavior was completely out-of-pocket like you're allowed to think all that
18:22I just all I'm saying is I think it's crazy
18:27When the player and the team get mad at one another
18:30Why would it all lay on the player? I don't think that exists
18:35There's no way you cuz I've not heard one person be like that was Miami doing. I've not heard one person say that
18:43And and I guarantee you they at least share in this
18:47For sure in my mind that depends on what really went on behind closed doors
18:51and you know if you're Miami and you have Jimmy Butler and he goes through what he did this year, which is
18:58Conduct detrimental to the team and he gets suspended for seven games. That was the first one where conduct
19:04detrimental to the team so he probably and I'm just guessing and I'm ballparking what that would have meant where
19:12You're at a practice a game a team function wherever you are and you are going full-on
19:19FCC violation
19:21You're MF and yeah, you're bombing the coach. You're bombing or I think not showing up for the plane. This is before that
19:27Okay, this was the first one
19:29yeah, he got suspended three times and I think the first one was you know a full-on like
19:34You know bombs away and you know
19:37I'm MF and tired of this MF and BS and all the rest of it
19:41This may sound funny, but this is I guess my question out of it when we get to conduct detrimental the team
19:46How would you feel because this would never come out because the player doesn't have the power to do this
19:50But don't you think Jimmy felt like prior to the conduct detrimental the team?
19:54He probably felt like the Miami he participated in some conduct that was detrimental to Jimmy
19:59Right, and I wonder what that would be. I don't know like not paying him. Yeah, okay, or not not not
20:07Valuing him. I think that that's what this all comes down to for 99% of these players
20:14And employees everywhere
20:16Everyone wants to feel valued at your work in your relationship
20:20You want to feel valued and then if you don't maybe you're rational. Maybe you're irrational
20:27I don't know, but if you don't then you're going to start
20:31acting based on the control that you have in that situation and
20:36So this is not me giving Jimmy a pass
20:38This is me. Just saying I really don't believe when there's this kind of discord
20:43I never believe that it's all on one person, you know that I hated Brandon
20:48Iukes behavior last summer. Yeah, but I don't put a hundred percent of it on him at all at all
20:53The 49ers completely share in the way that went down sure and I do think that the heat share in some of this
20:59But you know Jimmy Butler when he says he's not happy with his role and then he goes on a tirade
21:05He gets seven games and he comes back and then you miss a practice and then you want to be traded and all the rest
21:11Of it and you want your money?
21:12Yeah, I'm sure the team could have done things differently
21:16but the player has the right to do things that they want to do and when you have a guaranteed contract and you have a
21:22Player option for 50 million. The team is kind of screwed. Yeah, fair enough
