00:00Don't you hate it when you want to eat some good-looking food, but it's nachos?
00:03Okay, I know, that joke isn't just cheesy, it also feels kinda reheated.
00:07Nacho cheese!
00:08Oh brother, this guy stinks!
00:11You may have heard people online talking about reheating their own or someone else's nachos.
00:16But what does that mean, and why are people saying it?
00:18Reheating nachos is a slang term for doing something that's already been done,
00:21but generally with less potency or effectiveness.
00:24Sort of like you would enjoy stale or soggy reheated nachos,
00:27less than you would enjoy them in their original crispy and fresh form.
00:30So the term can be used as an insult, but this isn't always the case.
00:33Some cases refer to one person reheating their own nachos,
00:36aka revamping their old work occasionally to fairly good results,
00:40like you might get if you reheated nachos in an air fryer instead of a microwave.
00:43The term seems to have originated from a clip from Batty's West that was reposted
00:47to TikTok on December 3rd, 2023 by TikToker Batty's Funny, who added the caption,
00:52The post spread slowly over the year,
00:58as the concept of wanting someone's figurative nachos spread to X,
01:02with users using it to imply someone envying something of someone else's,
01:06or even wanting the limelight or attention someone else is getting.
01:09On September 4th, 2024, X user Keon replied to a since-deleted tweet, writing,
01:14While the tweet didn't go massively viral,
01:18it is currently the first known use of the reheating nachos term.
01:21The first known viral use of the term was a quote tweet shared by X user Hyphen Corday
01:26on January 9th, 2025, about Doja Cat reheating her own nachos,
01:30which garnered nearly 2 million views in a month.
01:32In the following weeks, the slang term amassed viral use on X and spread to TikTok.
01:36This was in part fueled by Lady Gaga's performance at the 2025 Grammys,
01:40which fans applauded as her reigniting her classic style in a good way,
01:43with many posting about her reheating her own nachos.
01:46Many users would get more and more creative with the metaphor,
01:48expanding it to cover more specific situations, often asking their audience,
01:52Does that make sense?
