00:11The Indian Supreme Court has rejected a three-member IPL match-fixing inquiry team proposed by
00:16the Cricket Board. Instead, the Court has asked the Justice Mudgal Committee to investigate
00:20the scandal, focusing on the 13 names mentioned in its report.
00:24The Cricket Board had earlier proposed former cricket great Ravi Shastri, former Judge Jain
00:28Patel and former CBI Director R.K. Raghavan as the inquiry team.
00:34Potable water manufacturers in the UAE will have until October 1 this year to comply with
00:38the new regulations issued by the Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority. The
00:43new regulations are designed to tackle potable bottled water and all materials that come
00:47in contact with drinking water. It also covers labelling and packaging of bottles as well
00:52as distribution.
00:54Dubai and Abu Dhabi stocks have jumped on the back of large increases seen by Arabtec
00:58Holdings and other property companies following signs of further growth in the markets. The
01:03DFM General Index crossed the 5,000 mark in morning trade today, while the ADX Securities
01:09Index was trading at 5,204 points. Arabtec stocks jumped the highest in its history when
01:14it reached 8 dirhams on the DFM yesterday.
01:17The US has dismissed a Syrian plan to hold a presidential election on June 3 as a parody
01:22of democracy. President Bashar al-Assad is expected to seek a third, seven-year term
01:27in the elections.
01:28Saudi Arabia relieved its health minister of his duties yesterday without giving a reason
01:32for the change. Arab media reported that the kingdom was unhappy with Abdullah al-Rabiya's
01:37handling of the MERS virus crisis.
01:39Abu Dhabi's construction and real estate development sector is getting familiar with billion-dirham-plus
01:44paydays, with the cityscape Abu Dhabi opening this morning. Aldar Properties yesterday announced
01:49the launch of three major residential projects valued at 5 billion dirhams in the prime areas
01:54of the capital.
01:55In sport, Manchester United manager David Moyes has been sacked today. According to
02:00The Daily Telegraph, Moyes will be replaced until the end of the season by player-coach
02:03Ryan Giggs and former United midfielder Nicky Butt.
