00:10US President Barack Obama has announced plans for keeping 9,800 US troops in Afghanistan
00:17after this year, but then withdrawing virtually all by the end of 2016, charting an end to
00:22America's longest ever war. The drawdown would allow Obama to protect the gains made in a
00:27war in which he significantly intensified US involvement.
00:31Tremors hit the UAE on Tuesday morning at 9.44am after a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck
00:37Iran's Qeshm island. The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology confirmed the tremors,
00:42saying they were felt deep in UAE's Northern Emirates, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. However,
00:47the tremors were weak and caused no damages anywhere.
00:51US President Barack Obama is weighing sending a limited number of American troops to Jordan
00:55to be part of a regional training mission. The team would instruct carefully vetted
00:59members of the Free Syrian Army on tactics including counter-terrorism operations, according
01:05to US administration officials.
01:07Egypt last night extended polling in the presidential elections after officials say two planned
01:12days of voting produced a turnout well below that in the poll won by ousted Islamist President
01:17Mohamed Morsi. Both candidates, former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leftist Hamdeen
01:23Sabahi expressed disapproval of the move.
01:26In sport, the Indian Premier League promises an exciting doubleheader today. Kolkata Knight
01:30Riders take on table-toppers Kings XI Punjab in a qualifier while Mumbai Indians face the

01:39In football, Olivier Giroud scored a double as France stepped up their World Cup preparations
01:43last night with a 4-0 win over Norway. Paul Pogba netted a first-half opener in Paris

01:52And Queen are to release new tracks featuring Freddie Mercury's vocals by the end of the
01:56year, the British rock group's guitarist Brian May has said. The songs, dating back to the
