A cloudy afternoon for much of the UK, with some breaks in the cloud in the northwest and southwest. Outbreaks of rain will move eastwards across central England and into Wales as the afternoon progresses. Scattered showers across eastern Scotland, as well as across the far north and south east of England. 00:00Hello there, or good afternoon to you. For some of us it does feel like we're still
00:04having to hunt down the sunshine at the moment but there are a few glimmers out
00:08there for a lucky few of us. We've currently got this quite extensive area
00:12of cloud out in the North Sea that is drifting its way in across the UK. Why?
00:16Well high pressure has situated itself across Scandinavia and with winds moving
00:21in a clockwise direction around that we are feeding in an easterly wind from the
00:25North Sea and that is bringing in that moisture, bringing in that cloud for many
00:29of us. But areas further towards the west are starting off today on a bit of a
00:33brighter sunnier note particularly for parts of southwest England, southwest
00:36Wales, also parts of County Derry and up into northwestern Scotland as well. There
00:40has been a decent amount of sunshine to kick off the day and these areas will
00:43hold on to a touch of that brightness throughout this afternoon as well
00:46particularly across the northwest where it is going to be a quite nice and
00:49pleasant day. Further towards the east though where we're stuck underneath that
00:53cloud it's going to be grey and drab, outbreaks of rain in places, showers
00:56maybe even a touch of hill snow as well. Underneath that cloud it is going to be
01:01feeling rather cold, temperatures around 6-7 degrees Celsius at best but
01:06particularly into this afternoon and later on into the evening that easterly
01:09wind is going to start picking up in strength and we're going to see an
01:13increased wind chill factor added on top of that. Those outbreaks of rain will
01:16continue this evening and overnight particularly across parts of England and
01:19Wales but clearer skies will remain across more northwestern areas of
01:23Scotland and here temperatures will drop off quite a bit, below as minus 5
01:28maybe minus 6 degrees Celsius in some sheltered areas. Pockets of frost
01:33potential across other western areas where we see a few clear spells
01:36developing but most areas underneath the cloud will see temperatures more around
01:403-4 degrees Celsius as we start off the new working week. But despite that
01:46very cold start in northwestern Scotland it's here once again where we're going to
01:49see the best of the sunshine throughout the day for the Highlands, the Outer
01:53Hebrides, parts of Argyll and Bute, a very lovely day here with widespread
01:57sunshine in there. Elsewhere that cloud is still coming in from the North Sea
02:01starting to see more showers drifting their way in for the Pennines and
02:04particularly we could see a couple of centimetres of snow building up in
02:07places and it is going to be feeling very cold once again. Temperatures are
02:12starting to struggle with that lack of sunshine, 5-6 degrees Celsius as our
02:16temperatures on the thermometer but when we add on the strength of that increasing
02:20easterly wind it is going to be feeling more like freezing for the vast majority
02:24of us. So certainly Monday and even into next week it is going to be one where we
02:29are going to be having to wrap up warm if we are outside particularly when
02:32exposed to that very biting easterly wind on those eastern coastal districts.
02:37So this will be a very similar picture into Monday evening and that stagnant
02:41weather pattern is looking like it will stay around for a good portion of this
02:46forthcoming week with that Scandinavian high still rooting itself in play. We'll
