For the majority of us today it will be bright and dry this afternoon into this evening. There will be some patchy areas of cloud and isolated showers about in the southeast, northern England and Wales, and Northern Ireland, while in Scotland it will be cloudier with some showers persisting until later. Blustery in the north, but calmer elsewhere. Above average temperatures for the time of year, though chillier tonight. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 22/02/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Greg Dewhurst.

00:00Hello there. Plenty of sunny spells for much of the UK through Saturday afternoon, but
00:05it's all change as wet and windy weather moves in for the second half of the weekend. A brief
00:10ridge of high pressure at the moment, however, this deep area of low pressure sweeps in across
00:14the north-west of the UK, bringing outbreaks of heavy rain to many parts through Sunday
00:19and into Monday. Some very strong winds as well. Met obvious warnings for the wind and
00:23rain across many northern and western parts of the UK through Sunday. But Saturday afternoon,
00:28plenty of sunny spells. Cloudy morning across southeastern parts of England, the rain here
00:33clearing and allowing the skies to brighten. But for many, it will be dry, sunny spells.
00:37A scattering of showers could develop as we move through into the afternoon, showers most
00:41frequent across parts of Northern Ireland, but especially for central and north-western
00:45parts of Scotland, where it will still remain quite blustery, but for most, winds much lighter
00:50compared to Friday. Temperatures down a little, we've reached the dizzy heights of 17 Celsius
00:55across the UK yesterday, more likely 10 to 14 Celsius for Saturday afternoon, but this
01:02is still above average for the time of year, generally 7 to 9 Celsius is what we should
01:06be seeing for this point in February. A chilly evening to come for many as skies clear. We
01:11could see some low cloud, mist and fog patches forming for a time, and a touch of frost perhaps
01:16across some sheltered northern and eastern areas. However, overnight, the cloud starts
01:20to move in, the rain arrives across Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland, which
01:25could be heavy at times too, and the winds start to pick up. We'll see gales developing,
01:29gusts of 45 miles an hour or so by the end of the night. Still some clear skies holding
01:34on to some eastern parts, dry here. Temperatures around 4 or 5 Celsius to start Sunday morning,
01:397, 8, 9 Celsius in the west, but a wet start to the day across Northern Ireland, western
01:44Scotland, and this rain just slowly pushing north and eastwards across this part of the
01:49world through the morning. Some heavy outbreaks of rain possible. Winds starting to pick
01:53up, 60, 70 miles an hour in exposed locations. The rain then sweeping across parts of Northern
01:59England, Wales, the Midlands into south-west England. Bright colours there, indicating
02:02some particularly heavy rain, especially across southern and central parts of Wales. South-east
02:08England though, a dry morning, some bright or sunny spells, but the cloud increasing
02:13as we move through into the afternoon here. Everyone, a windy afternoon to come, gusts
02:17of 45, 50 miles an hour quite widely, 60 to 70 exposed coasts in the north and the
02:22west. So there could be some tricky travelling conditions if you are planning on travelling
02:27through Sunday itself. So worth keeping up to date with the Met Office warnings as there
02:31are wind warnings across many northern and western parts of the UK as well as some rain
02:35warnings as well. Temperatures, very similar, reaching double figures for many, generally
02:40between 9 and 12 Celsius, locally 13 perhaps across some southern counties. So a wet afternoon,
02:48evening to come across England and Wales as this band of rain continues to slowly push
02:52its way south and eastward. Some localised flooding possible, particularly across southern
02:56parts of Wales, but almost anywhere in the north and the west could see some local disruption.
03:02Showers following for Northern Ireland, Northern England, Scotland, Blustery here and some
03:06of the showers on the heavy side and the rain eventually reaching southeastern parts
03:10as well. Stays unsettled into next week, Blustery showers through Monday and Tuesday. For more
03:16information, follow us on our social media channels. See you soon.
