00:00It is a tale I will defer.
00:02Oh, the defer!
00:04Oh, you didn't expect that, Gator?
00:05I was not expecting that.
00:07The okey-doke. Alright, here we go, guys.
00:08Question number one.
00:10Yeah, we still gotta keep doing this, even though the Lions are out of the playoffs.
00:13But I'll do it. Okay.
00:15Question number one.
00:16Do the refs favor Patrick Mahomes in the Chiefs?
00:19Ha! What a way to start.
00:22Look, I think he gets some superstar treatment and
00:27I mean, look, he is a superstar, so
00:29you would expect some of that.
00:31I don't think it's egregious
00:33with the treatment that he gets.
00:35Obviously, if your team is playing him
00:37and you see a play that happens,
00:38you're gonna fly off the handle
00:40and maybe if we played Kansas City more regularly,
00:42we'd say the same thing.
00:43But he's the best in the league.
00:45And he waits until the last moment for things to happen.
00:48He puts himself in tougher situations than maybe most quarterbacks do.
00:52So, I think some of that is there.
00:55He gets calls,
00:57but there was actually some data recently that showed up
01:00that he doesn't get the calls that you think he gets.
01:03It's calls that you watch in games that you watch,
01:06but it's not as bad or nearly as one-sided as you might think.
01:10I would like to see said data
01:11because I think he absolutely gets the benefit of the doubt
01:14and I think the Chiefs get the benefit of the doubt
01:16and I think he abuses it.
01:18It reminds me a little bit of Trey Young,
01:20who didn't bother me as much last night in foul hunting,
01:23foul creating,
01:24but he does things like he slows down near the sidelines
01:27to induce hits near the sidelines.
01:30That might come with an embellishment.
01:32He does get up limping a lot
01:33and then miraculously recovers from these hits.
01:37He also is the guy that faked running out of bounds,
01:40faked a slide near the sideline and took off up the sideline,
01:43which makes defensive players, handcuffs them on what they can do.
01:47Do the refs favor Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs?
01:50Absolutely.
01:52I think so too, Doug.
01:54I absolutely agree that they flat out just favor them.
01:57Now, all the stuff that you just mentioned that Mahomes does,
01:59that's not illegal, though,
02:00but the part that bothers me is
02:02that the refs fall for this crap every time!
02:05All right, so even Mahomes admitted on a radio interview this week
02:08that he had one of those flops.
02:10He probably shouldn't have done that
02:11because he straight up just flopped on the sidelines.
02:13But if you want data, okay,
02:15here's the data, guys.
02:17Did you know the Chiefs have gone 11 straight playoff games
02:21without committing more penalties than their opponents?
02:23It's the longest streak by any team in the last 30 years.
02:27That's data.
02:28They're definitely favoring Mahomes and the Chiefs.
02:30That's just a display of football team.
02:32And it's because they're human,
02:34and they know exactly who's on the field and who's not.
02:36So I kind of understand it.
02:37They know Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league,
02:40so they are going to favor him, Kelsey, and the rest of the Chiefs.
02:43But yeah, they favor them.
02:44It's annoying, but they do.
02:48All right, should the Steelers bring back Russell Wilson?
02:50Only if he takes the same money.
02:51Remember he had that Denver deal
02:53where he could sign for $1.2 million in Pittsburgh.
02:56And given that at this point,
02:59with the Steelers organization,
03:01they're the only team that's in a full-scale rebuild
03:03and still making the playoffs.
03:04But they can hand it over to a younger quarterback
03:06who also, they've got to bring back Justin Fields.
03:10They've got to decide to bring him back,
03:11but he's going to command more money.
03:13And if I'm given my choice of Russell Wilson or Justin Fields
03:16that I have to invest in,
03:18I'm going with Justin Fields.
03:19So no, I would not bring Russell Wilson back
03:21unless he'd do it on a similar contract,
03:23and I suspect he won't.
03:24Doug, sometimes you say some things that are so stupid
03:27that I just shake my head,
03:29and then you said what you just said,
03:31and I agree with you.
03:32They should absolutely bring Justin Fields back,
03:34not Russell Wilson.
03:36Look, Russ is fine.
03:38He's a good bridge quarterback at this point in his career,
03:41but the Steelers need to take a leap forward into the future,
03:45and that's with a quarterback they can bank on.
03:48Justin Fields has so much talent.
03:51If you feel like you've got the right coaches in place,
03:54harness that talent, figure it out,
03:56and make a new path for yourself with your next quarterback
04:00that's going to lead this team for six or seven years.
04:03Justin Fields, I think, is so talented.
04:06You can absolutely win with him.
04:08The problem is he started his career in Chicago,
04:12so that's no good for him.
04:14You guys are both wrong.
04:15They don't bring back Justin Fields
04:16because they had every opportunity to give Justin Fields,
04:19you know, to take over this team.
04:21They needed a quarterback that was dynamic,
04:23that was able to help the offense, that was struggling.
04:25And for whatever reason, they didn't,
04:27and they handed it over to Russell Wilson.
04:29Now I'm not saying Russell Wilson's the answer,
04:31but I think he is the perfect type of quarterback,
04:33like a bridge quarterback, I think one of you guys just mentioned.
04:35He's that gap quarterback.
04:37But if he has to be the backup, he could do far worse as a backup.
04:40I think he's a team guy, a locker room guy.
04:42Yes, the contract's got to be very team-friendly, Doug,
04:45but if he's wanting to come back and compete for a job,
04:48then I would bring him back.
04:51All right, speaking of quarterbacks,
04:53will Lamar Jackson ever get over the hump and finally win a Super Bowl?
04:58I think he does.
04:59I think he's the most talented player in the league.
05:01He's young.
05:04You saw him make mistakes in the first half of the game against Buffalo
05:07and then bounce back in the second half and lead his team
05:10back to what should have been a tie game, and he got let down.
05:13He got let down by his veteran tight end,
05:15who dropped a couple of horrific plays.
05:18One was a fumble, and the other one was just a two-point conversion at the end
05:21that should have put it into overtime.
05:23He's great, and I think it's just every year that you go through a failure,
05:28you're learning from it, and you grow back stronger,
05:31and that Baltimore team is pretty talented.
05:33I think they're going to add some more pieces around him
05:35and make the team better, and he'll lead that team to the Super Bowl.
05:39Well, look, the safe money here is on no because you get the field every year,
05:43and I guess I would probably bet against any individual winning again
05:47and their individual team, but I don't blame him exclusively.
05:51It's kind of like Stafford.
05:52Yeah, Baltimore is not winning with him at quarterback,
05:54but I balk at blaming the best player.
05:57His contract is roughly the same percentage of the cap as guys like Patrick Mahomes
06:01and Josh Allen, so winners can be built on that cap number.
06:04I think there's other reasons why Baltimore isn't winning,
06:07and I don't think it's Lamar Jackson, but if I had to bet,
06:11I would bet no, he will never win a Super Bowl.
06:13Yeah, I understand your logic, Doug, but if I had to answer,
06:16will he ever win a Super Bowl, I think the answer is yes.
06:18He's just too damn talented and too good.
06:21I feel like it's inevitable.
06:22Everyone conveniently forgets that it took Peyton Manning
06:25eight years before he finally won a Super Bowl.
06:27He was 3-6 in the playoffs.
06:29Lamar Jackson is 28 years old.
06:31He's 3-5 in the playoffs, okay?
06:33So he still has plenty of time.
06:36He's in the prime of his career.
06:37He's making amazing plays every single week.
06:40He's not perfect, but he might win his third MVP this year.
06:44He's that good.
06:45I think they just have to get, for whatever reason,
06:47I mean his all-pro tight end dropped a pass to tie the game.
06:51His all-pro tight end fumbled the ball on the drive before that
06:53that could have put a touchdown over.
06:55All these things seem to happen to him in the playoffs.
06:57It's not all his fault, but I think inevitable,
07:01he's going to win at least one, I think.
07:04All right.
07:05Roger Goodell said this week,
07:07Hey guys, it's only logical for the lead to go to 18 games.
07:10We all knew this was coming,
07:11but will we see a 20-game season at some point in the NFL?
07:14No, and I hope we don't because in my view,
07:16the quality of the game is what's getting hurt.
07:18The NFL PAs need, it needs to put its foot down
07:21because it's putting the players at more risk and more danger.
07:25They're playing more and more games.
07:27They're taking more and more live hits,
07:29and it's already the game is too much of attrition.
07:32We said it for years.
07:33We just never cared.
07:34Now we care a lot about how brutal this game is.
07:38And a 17th game,
07:39my life has not gotten better because of the 17th game.
07:42And I think football has become, you know,
07:44just that much more worse because of the 17th game.
07:47So I would like to see him go to 16.
07:50If they go to 20 though,
07:51I would blame the NFL PA for agreeing to it.
07:54Yeah, I agree with Doug.
07:55Almost everything he said there,
07:56I don't think they're going to go to 20 games.
07:58It is a incredibly violent game.
08:01You can make the argument that it's too violent.
08:03They need to find ways to make it less violent.
08:05Injuries have taken a ridiculous toll on superstar players year in,
08:10year out.
08:11But when you add more games,
08:12you're putting them more at risk.
08:14I wouldn't be,
08:15I guess I would be more surprised if they went to 20 as opposed to
08:19going back to 16.
08:20I could see that happening before they go to 20.
08:23But I think 18 is likely the sweet spot for Roger Goodell and the NFL
08:28and the players.
08:30They're all going to make money off of it.
08:31But,
08:32you know,
08:33if the injuries continue the way they go,
08:34then maybe they do go back.
08:35Of course,
08:36we're going to see a 20 game season at some point,
08:38guys,
08:39the NFL is king.
08:40They're greedy.
08:41And literally the only thing they don't have compared to other major
08:43sports in this country is the amount of regular season games to maximize
08:48their value.
08:49They want as much value,
08:51as much money as possible.
08:53They're just going to eliminate the preseason completely.
08:55It's going to be 20 NFL regular season games.
08:58And get ready for bad football the first month,
09:00because that is their preseason.
09:06All right.
09:07There was some bad weather this past weekend in the playoff games,
09:09Buffalo versus Ravens and the Eagles versus the Rams.
09:11Was that awesome?
09:12Or was that dumb?
09:13Well,
09:14I lean more towards dumb because I'm not a fan of having the weather
09:17decide what's going to happen.
09:18But I mean,
09:19the counter to that,
09:20it's real simple.
09:21It's a level playing field.
09:22Both teams have to play on it.
09:23I'm just not a fan of it,
09:25which is really what it comes down to.
09:27I'm very thankful that the games here at Ford Field,
09:29they're indoors.
09:30As a fan,
09:31I've been to outdoor games and the weather has sucked and it's no fun to
09:34be there.
09:35Even if it's a playoff game.
09:36Can you imagine if the Lions had played outdoors on Saturday night at
09:39home and lost that game in a weather situation,
09:42how even more miserable you'd be?
09:45I don't like weather dictating things and neither does the NFL.
09:48That's why the NFL has the Superbowl played in a pristine conditions as
09:51much as they can control with that.
09:53There's still going to be teams that have the outdoor stadiums is still
09:56going to be something to deal with.
09:58But you know,
09:59in 20 years,
10:00are we going to have every team in the league under a dome?
10:05I think it's fun to me.
10:06Football's a game is played in the elements.
10:08That's cold.
10:09That's snow.
10:10That's extreme heat.
10:11And during a football season,
10:12you have to deal with both.
10:13It's just part of the game as far as I'm concerned.
10:16So yeah,
10:17I enjoy watching those games.
10:18And if you can't handle the elements,
10:20you know,
10:21you're,
10:22you're in the wrong sport.
10:23As far as I'm concerned,
10:24I get both sides.
10:25I prefer optimal conditions though,
10:27Gator.
10:28I do.
10:29But the real solution here is either all the cold weather teams have to go
10:32to a dome or the Superbowl has to be,
10:34has the possibility of being a cold weather venue.
10:36Because to me,
10:37otherwise it does not make any sense when you're playing regular season
10:40games outdoors where weather can play a factor into the regular season,
10:43which helps decide to play off teams and seating.
10:46But then all of a sudden the final game,
10:48we can't have any weather conditions whatsoever when it played a role or
10:51possibly played a role the entire season.
10:53So I go,
10:54I think you got to pick one side or the other.
10:56Kurt Warner hates it.
10:57He came out and said again,
10:58and he,
10:59if you know this already,
11:00I'm just repeating it,
11:01but he thinks weather conditions give the way team a completely unfair
11:03advantage and players can't perform at their best because they have no way
11:06to prepare for that.
11:07So when you say level playing field,
11:08he doesn't even think it's level playing field just because they're both
11:10playing at the same time.
11:11One team's never seen it before.
11:12Maybe.
11:13So he hates it.
11:18All right.
11:19Last one,
11:20guys,
11:21Philly mayor,
11:23and it was an Eagles chant to get them all fired up,
11:25but she misspelled Eagles.
11:26Instead.
11:27She yelled out E L G S E S.
11:32It's not even close.
11:33Anyways,
11:34what's the one word that you always misspell?
11:36I have huge sympathy for mayor Parker,
11:38because if I were the mayor of Philadelphia and I was hosting a pep rally
11:44and the NFL team was called the Philadelphia necessaries,
11:50I would have major problems.
11:54In fact,
11:55I come so far away from spelling necessary that sometimes the squiggly line
12:00doesn't even know what to suggest.
12:02They're like,
12:03we don't even know what you're going for.
12:06Wow.
12:07Look,
12:08I think we all have those words that are tough.
12:09The IV for E except after C thing doesn't really work for me because I
12:12always seem to find the one word that's exception.
12:14And I'm like,
12:15wait a minute.
12:16That's it.
12:17Why is it red?
12:18It doesn't seem to make any sense.
12:19The word egregious.
12:20I had to type it earlier today.
12:22You did.
12:23Yeah.
12:24Well,
12:25you know,
12:26answering these questions,
12:27I'm looking for it and I want to get some notes down.
12:28The word egregious came up and I'm like,
12:29wait a minute,
12:30that's misspelled.
12:31How do you spell?
12:32Oh,
12:33there it is.
12:34The word license.
12:35When I was a kid up until the time I was like 22,
12:37I always misspelled the word license.
12:39So yeah,
12:40there's still words out there.
12:41I guarantee you,
12:42I will never be able to spell guarantee without spellcheck.
12:45I don't like you,
12:46Doug.
12:47I don't like you anymore.
12:48I type in G.
12:49I don't even know it's a U or whatever.
12:51And then the T and I just say,
12:53Hey,
12:54spellcheck.
12:55Help me out.
12:56That's it.
12:57Help a brother out.
12:58And that concludes the Y9 Omaha four down around the league
13:01blitz thingy.
