00:00Yeah, so Doug, since it's just me and you, I'm sorry, you're gonna have to receive.
00:05I accept. All right, here we go.
00:08Question number one, who should Jason Kelce be rooting for in the Super Bowl?
00:13Okay, so I have an impression of Jason Kelce. I think Jason Kelce is fully on board and is
00:19rooting for the party. That's my impression. I think he was rooting for the party.
00:24Look, I don't know how you don't root for your brother and your brother's team.
00:28His career is over and it's your brother. But I also wonder if there's an undercurrent of not,
00:38of FOMO, like if the Eagles win, he missed out. And there's also might be an undercurrent of his
00:44ego. So I retired and they could win it without me. So I think it's very easy for an athlete in
00:54this particular circumstance to root against his old team and root for his brother's team.
00:59So on his podcast with his brother, Travis, he came out and said the most PC answer possible.
01:04And you can believe him. You cannot believe him. But he just said, listen, no matter who wins,
01:07he's going to be happy. Because one, obviously, if Travis wins, that's his brother, his family.
01:13And the other, if the Eagles win, he feels like a lot of his former teammates are his
01:17brothers as well. And he still lives in Philly. And he loves the fans and organization.
01:24But dude, come on. This is a no brainer. You root for your brother, who's actually your brother,
01:29blood brother. All right. Unless you're Aaron Rodgers, you always root for your family, right?
01:34Yeah. Let me ask you this, though, since we got more time, since Gator's not here.
01:40Professionally, can he say that and get accepted in Philadelphia?
01:46Well, that's why I get it.
01:48Right. So, I mean, I get that you said a PC. PC, it feels like,
01:52you know, you're ripping on him a little bit. I don't know that he has a choice,
01:56because I think those people would run him out of town.
02:00Oh, and by those people, you mean Philly fans?
02:02Philly fans, yeah.
02:03Oh, yeah. Are they level-headed fans? No, not really. Yes, he still lives there. But also,
02:08I think on the inside, though, Doug, you kind of touched on it. If the Eagles do win it without
02:13him, there's got to be some kind of like, was it me? And then they did it without me,
02:17and I don't get to celebrate. Like, he retired without one, right, with them. I mean, not with
02:21this current team I'm talking about. And so, maybe, you know, that crosses your mind. But
02:25you got to root for your brother, Travis, man. Come on.
02:27Yeah. All right.
02:29All right. Should the NFL make the trade deadline week 17?
02:33Okay.
02:33Basically pushing it all the way back till the end of the season.
02:36It would have been super convenient this year, as the Lions kept having
02:39healthy players peeled off their defensive side of the roster. It would have been very nice
02:44if they had been able to make a few more moves. But I think it's kind of an overreaction.
02:50I mean, the one thing about the playoffs is that it's kind of your team. And if you can add guys
02:58right up to the end, that to me feels a little bit like cheating. Like, okay, we're right at the end.
03:04I think you'd have more roster manipulation where bad teams trying to tank,
03:08send out useful players to good teams trying to win Super Bowls.
03:12And I don't like that element of it because I think they'd be exposed to that possibility.
03:20I think having the trade deadline early enough that most teams still think they have a shot
03:25makes more sense.
03:27Yeah. I mean, obviously, this seems radical, but I don't think it is that radical if you
03:31break it down. Of course, it would have benefited the Lions this year.
03:35But I think teams will always try to do what's best for their own organization.
03:40So the tanking thing, it doesn't really fly with me because, yeah, you're worried about
03:44manipulation, right? Helping other teams. But trust me, the Cardinals don't care about the
03:48Lions more than they care about themselves. Or the Bengals don't care more about the Rams than
03:53themselves. They're going to do what's best for their organization. Now, it might happen to help
03:56you and your playoff run, but they're looking for their future. If they need draft capital or
04:00whatever it is, or cap space, they're trying to get themselves into a better position.
04:05So I think pushing back the trade deadline, although it seems radical, I think it would
04:07actually be good for the NFL. Plus, could you imagine the trade deadline talk for just marketing
04:13purposes and sports radio and everything like that continuing on? Not just like earlier in
04:18the season where, I mean, Brad Holmes even said at the end of the press, he's like, it kind of
04:22like is a lot earlier than you want it to be, especially if you're trying to make moves to
04:26better your team. And nowadays, Doug, everyone's holding on to the very end anyways. The Bengals
04:33wouldn't even think about trading Trey Hendrickson, but maybe they wouldn't week 16
04:37instead of week 12 or whatever it is. Or another team, because every team still wants to try to
04:41make it to the very possible end. I think they should really move it back. All right. Bill
04:48Belichick recently suggested that they renamed the Lombardi Trophy the Brady Trophy. Should they
04:53actually do this? I don't want to overstate anything here. I was a Tom Brady fan when he was
05:02at Michigan because coaches told me he was the better quarterback and the whole world at the
05:09time, fan base thought that it was going to be handed to Drew Henson, who was incredibly talented
05:13and a hell of a quarterback himself. So I started defending Tom Brady. Well, what I came to
05:17understand was a Tom Brady heard about this and Tom Brady back then appreciated it, but we weren't
05:25like friends. Okay. So I like Tom Brady a lot. And Tom Brady is somewhat rewarded me by playing
05:31well. And it was, it was, it was good, but we're not like friends, but I like Tom Brady. Okay.
05:39But what this is too much. He doesn't mean that much to everyone. I mean, you do realize,
05:47do I want to call the Patrick Mahomes trophy if he keeps winning Super Bowls?
05:51No people start to dislike you. He was incredible and is an amazing benchmark and everybody can,
05:58everybody doesn't have to, but you can kind of appreciate everything that he did. But you know
06:03what I think this is. I think this is about a devious way of bill Belichick kind of roundabout
06:10honoring himself. You know how special that guy was. And then he says real quiet and what we did
06:17together. And it reminds me of something that happened before Tom cream. When he was at Indiana,
06:25he was struggling to fit in there. There was a weird relationship with him and the fan base.
06:28I don't think the fans really liked him when he was the basketball coach. And he was a few years
06:33in and he actually had a big 10 championship team in Indiana. Didn't put up big 10 championship
06:37banners. They put up national champion banners and cream decided when they won the big 10,
06:43this team was so special and brought us back. We're going to put up a big 10 championship banner.
06:50And he talked about the team, but what I really think he was doing was don't forget everyone what
06:57I did. I did this here and it felt, it did not feel genuine to me and it didn't feel like it
07:04was. And this doesn't feel like it's about Tom Brady. It feels to me like it's about bill Belichick.
07:08Well, it's funny you say that because Belichick went on to say, like,
07:11listen, this is a player's league, a player's game. A coach can only do so much, but he said,
07:17he's always said, Hey, I could never have done this without Brady,
07:20Rabel, Brewski, Gronk, you know, all the guys that they had. And that's why he,
07:24you know, kind of jokingly put it out there. Maybe they should rename it to the Brady trophy
07:28because the players make this game. I mean, what did Lombardi mean to you, Doug? You know?
07:33And I think predictably everybody's going to say, first thought is no. So I thought, okay,
07:38no, let's just leave the Lombardi trophy, the Lombardi trophy. But what about the,
07:41the MVP of the super bowl? Maybe they should change that to the Brady trophy.
07:45Right now it's currently named for a former commissioner, Pete Roselle. Did you even know
07:49that? No, I think if you change it to the Tom Brady MVP award, people would know. And maybe
07:54this is recency bias. Of course, we're currently living in, in this time right now where Tom Brady,
07:59you know, is, is very relevant. Um, but I don't know. I think maybe I would suck for Pete Roselle
08:04and his family, I guess. But if they change that award to the Brady trophy, I think,
08:08I think more people might be on board. So maybe, but something to honor Brady. I'm not against that.
08:15The man did win seven super bowls. All right. Uh, speaking of super bowls, Doug,
08:20should people start questioning if Josh Allen will ever win a super bowl?
08:24I think this is so dumb and I don't know why we do this. We do this all the time. We did it with,
08:28and I, I, I'm going to say something I hate saying because I have no way of knowing this,
08:32but I'm going to say it anyway. This is the same people. That's the thing I hate saying.
08:36This is the same people that said it about Peyton Manning or said it about John Elway.
08:40And I'm not sure why people like to do that when a player has failed in, in, in multiple,
08:46some of the sense, just say, Hey, he can't get there. He can't get there. Must be something
08:51about him. Is it, or is it just that the team he has isn't the best yet? And so I don't know why
08:58this blame assignment thing has become such a big part of sports analysis and that people love
09:03the jump on board and just point a finger at one individual and we do it over and over again.
09:08And I do not endorse this line of thinking. Yeah, this is just the way it is, Doug. I mean,
09:13I think, should you start questioning if Josh Allen ever wins a super bowl? Yes. Especially
09:18from those that criticize Lamar Jackson. It's the same thing. No excuses. Shouldn't we be saying,
09:25uh, Oh, he's only good at the regular season. He's just a running quarterback. He's getting
09:29carried by defense and everything else. The truth is though, Doug is really hard to win a super bowl.
09:34So I think those people, I don't think he personally should be asked a question that
09:38much, but if you did criticize Lamar Jackson that way, you need to criticize Josh Allen the same way.
09:47All right. The Browns GM, Andrew Barry just said that he won't trade miles Garrett,
09:52no matter what the trade offer is. Is that dumb to say publicly?
09:56Well, I'll just say this. If I were a general manager, I would never say that.
10:02I would never say that even if it's true. In fact, everything that came out of my mouth
10:07would be a manipulation to try and elicit trade offers. Honestly, I would, I would be trying to
10:14elicit trade offers all the time through press conferences. And I'm not saying, Hey, he's for
10:21sale, but I would be, I'd be finding subtle ways to try and invoke phone calls to get people to
10:27call me about my players just to see how dumb somebody is and see if Jerry went on a whiskey
10:32bender and he's going to offer me 10 first round picks. Well, yeah, you kind of just mentioned it.
10:36I mean, yeah, this was dumb to say. There's definitely a better way of saying it. You could
10:40say, Hey, uh, we plan on winning and miles being a big part of it. Right. And if, or I find it hard
10:46to imagine miles not being here for a long time, because your part, your, your part of your job
10:50as a GM is to make this team better, whether that's with miles Garrett or without miles Garrett,
10:54the ultimate goal is the super bowl. You still want people to call and inquire about it. You know,
10:58like you, like you just said, you never know if Jerry Jones misses one of his pills that day.
11:02And he wants to call you up and offer, you know, everything, uh, Jim Irce may get drunk, be like,
11:06Hey, what's going on? Hey, would you like, you know, all this and all we, you have to give us
11:10as miles Garrett in return. So you never just completely shut the door like that publicly.
11:14Even if you want miles Garrett to be there forever, a career Brown, you can't tell everybody
11:20that. And then, because what happens if you actually do have to trade them,
11:23you look like you're just a liar. And then miles Garrett's like, what the hell, man?
11:31All right. Josh McDaniels is back for a third time as the Patriots offensive coordinator.
11:36How many times Doug, can a regular person go back to a previous job?
11:40I don't think there's a limit. And I think it, I think it takes a bit of humility and a lack. I
11:45mean, I'm not a particularly proud person. I have no problem with circling back to what worked
11:49before. If it's the old Peter principle, right? You, you get elevated to a position of failure
11:55and then you go back to, right. You go back to where you were previously. And in Josh McDaniels
12:00case, it's work. Now I'm not saying it's going to work again, but I have no problem with going back.
12:06And then again, I'm not, I'm not particularly proud. I think that keeps a lot of people that
12:11don't want to sheepishly go back to their old roles, but you were great at it. Go back to doing
12:17what you were great at. All right. So of course it depends on how you left in him. You know,
12:21there was a, you know, the one to take you back, but honestly, I'm putting a number on it, Doug
12:25three, this is it. Josh McDaniels. You've hit your max limit for both sides here. This is getting
12:31embarrassing, man. Like I clearly don't mind having him back and he clearly, you know, he,
12:36he's not too prideful to come back, but I think this is it, Doug. At this point, once you leave,
12:40I'm sorry, sir, your card no longer works and will never work again.
12:44There you go. That concludes the wide nine Omaha four down around the league blitz thingy.
