00:00For an update on Filipino athletes, here is the interview with Chairperson Richard Bachman of the Philippine Sports Commission to find out the latest developments of the PSC.
00:18Chairperson, how is the PSC going knowing that this last quarter of 2024 there were a lot of sports events that happened and will happen this coming December?
00:29Yes, this will be the busiest quarter for PSC. We just finished the Philippine Para PNG last week.
00:39This weekend, we have Batang Pinoy, which will have close to 11,000 athletes and close to 3,000 coaches, 171 LGUs.
00:54By December 1, we also have the Bimpiaga Friendship Games. For your info, the Bimpiaga Games stands for Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, East Asia Growth Area, and Northern Territory Friendship Games.
01:13This is an international event.
01:15Chairperson, last week you mentioned that the Philippine Para National Games just finished and it came back after the pandemic. How was the hosting of the Para Games and any plans of PSC to institutionalize the games for our Para athletes?
01:38Yes, this is my first time to experience the Philippine Para Games and we didn't have Para PNG in five years.
01:50I would rate it a success. All the Para athletes were happy that it's back and we started with nine sports and hopefully by moving forward, we'll grow these sports.
02:07We will introduce also team sports like sitting volleyball and blind football in the future. And I would like to thank Phil Spada and PSC employees for making this an event a success.
02:22Yes, Sir Richard. It's only been a week since Batang Pinoy 2024 and Bimpiaga in Palawan started. How's the preparation for this?
02:34Yes, so far, most of the PSC employees left for Puerto Princesa already. There are athletes or LGUs that arrived early. So everyone is there preparing.
02:48I'm just making sure your sleeping mats arrive on time. But if it doesn't arrive on time, then we will purchase sleeping mats for our athletes who arrived early.
03:00Then we will replace the ones purchased by PSC. So far, the numbers I'm getting is close to 12,000 athletes arriving and close to 3,000 coaches arriving as well.
03:15And then we have 30 sports. 30 sports that will be played in Batang Pinoy this year. And the new sports would be Jiu-Jitsu, Obstacle Course, and Kurash.
03:29And the comebacking sport will be Soft Tennis. It will also be held in Batang Pinoy.
03:35Yes, Sir Richard. We really have a lot of sports events this year. But in the next year, 2025, what are the big plans of PSC for Philippine sports, especially that SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games will be held in December?
03:55Yes, so we just finished our budget hearings. So for next year, I will be focused on the infrastructure projects in line. Now we have the construction of a seven-story athletes' dormitory.
04:12We also have a construction of a 12-story multi-sports training center, rehabilitation upgrading of our facilities, our stadium, our baseball stadium.
04:22And also, we have hostings next year. We have a lot of international hostings. We have the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. We have the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.
04:34We have the Asian Youth Para Games in Uzbekistan. We also have the Asian Winter Games in China.
04:41And we also have the hosting here in the Philippines, the FIBB Men's Volleyball World Championships and the hosting of the FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup.
04:52It's just a few for next year.
04:55Yes, Chairman, it's just a few, but it's a lot. This is just the last question for us, Chairperson.
05:02What is the message of PSC for us, the players who are training every day to represent the Philippines in international sports events and give glory to the Philippines?
05:15My message would be the Philippine Sports Commission will continue to support our athletes from the grassroots level to the elite level.
05:25We had a very fruitful year, 2024, and hopefully, we can actually improve next year, although leading towards the 2028 Olympics.
05:36There, we have with us now from Philippine Sports, Chairperson Richard Bachman from the Philippine Sports Commission. Thank you very much for your support of our interview, Sir.
05:46Thank you very much, Sir.
05:48Thank you very much. Thank you.
05:50There, so we talked to Chairman Bachman. They are not that busy. They just have a lot of events until next year.
05:57But do you think, teammate Bernadette, how important is the role of PSC to support our Philippine athletes in general?
06:05It's really big because we have a lot of athletes who are really excelling in their sports.
06:13And now that there is a platform for them, this is a big opportunity for them to show what they are good at.
06:19And let's go back to what PSC mentioned, Chairperson.
06:24In Batang Pinoy, more than 11,000 athletes are expected to participate and 3,000 coaches.
06:33This is a big event. And of course, the number of local government units is 171 for this.
06:42And of course, PTV Sports will not be absent in Batang Pinoy while we are not able to have our grassroots athletes in Batang Pinoy.
06:50And that is where our story for today ends, teammates. Join us again tomorrow. I am Bernadette Tinoy and this is PTV Sports.
