00:00As the New Year revelry nears, more and more Filipinos get into the mood of the upcoming celebration.
00:06Because of this, some get caught up in the moment in light of firecrackers that unfortunately lead to injuries.
00:13PTV's Alan Francisco updates us on the current figures on firecracker-related injuries.
00:21More than a hundred firecracker-related injuries have been recorded by the Department of Health or DOH
00:27just days before the New Year celebrations.
00:30On the program Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, DOH spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo,
00:36reported that the highest number of firecracker injuries were from Metro Manila.
00:41The main cause of these injuries is illegal firecrackers, including Boga, Five Star, and Piccolo.
01:10Most of the injured were actively involved in lighting firecrackers, while others were injured accidentally.
01:17Data from the DOH also shows that children aged 5 to 14 are the most common victims of firecracker injuries.
01:34He also repeatedly reminded the public to moderate their food intake during New Year celebrations.
01:40A celebratory feast can trigger conditions like stroke, heart attack, and asthma.
01:45The latter can be triggered by firecracker smoke.
02:11Hospitals nationwide are on code white alert for the New Year celebration until January 6, 2025.
