00:00Hello again. Very good evening to you. Now, across much of the UK, we are going to see
00:04some wet and windy weather pushing its way through as we go through the next 12 hours
00:08or so. It's all being driven by a particularly strong jet stream. Speeds within the jet are
00:13reaching around 250 miles per hour, and this is coming towards the UK, and it's driving
00:20various areas of low pressure. We have an area of low pressure pushing just to the north
00:24of the UK as we go through the rest of today and overnight, and the Associated Fronts are
00:29bringing a fair amount of rain. The heaviest rain through this evening will be across parts
00:34of Scotland, but here the rain pushes through quite quickly. Across England and Wales, the
00:38rain takes a little bit longer and lasts through a large chunk of the night, and so we are
00:42going to see some high rainfall totals building up, potential for 30 to 40 millimetres perhaps
00:47over higher ground. But most places turning drier through the early hours, just in the
00:52far east, south east, the rain clinging on until daybreak here. Also, the winds, they're
00:56causing some problems, particularly across northern and western Scotland. Here we do
01:00have a warning because gusts could reach 65 to 75 miles per hour in exposed spots, so
01:06some disruption is quite likely. After perhaps a chilly start to the night, temperatures
01:11are actually going to rise as we go through the early hours of tomorrow morning, so it
01:15is going to be a milder start to the day on Thursday than it has been through some recent
01:20mornings. But a wet, blustery start to the day across parts of the south east. Most of
01:25that rain and the strongest winds will clear away towards the east quite quickly through
01:29the morning, and so there is going to be a quieter spell across much of the country for
01:33a time. The winds dropping out, some sunshine perhaps, before another system pushes its
01:37way in. This one is perhaps a little bit more showery in nature, so there will be some showery
01:42bursts. It could become a bit more organised, so it could be lasting for quite a while in
01:47some places, and they will be intense too. There will also be some strong gusty winds,
01:52some squally winds mixed in with them, and so we have another wind warning in force,
01:57this time for parts of Northern Ireland, South West Scotland, into North Wales and some northern
02:01central parts of England. The strongest winds around coastal parts, but also where we see
02:06the heaviest showers pushing their way through, we could see some strong gusts mixed in. It
02:11is going to be relatively mild for the time of year. These temperatures are a few degrees
02:16above average, but whilst it's going to be relatively quiet during the middle part of
02:20the day, once the wet and windy weather picks up again, it's going to feel fairly unpleasant.
02:26Through Thursday evening and overnight, well, through the evening there will be some further
02:29heavy showery rain for a time, but a lot of that clears away. We do actually have a bit
02:33of a ridge of high pressure, and so things will quieten down as we go through the early
02:37hours of Friday morning. Some clear skies, a few showers around northern and western
02:41parts, maybe even a wintry element to some of these showers over the hills and mountains
02:45of Scotland, but most places turning largely dry. And with that, temperatures dropping
02:50a little bit lower than they have done through, well, they will have done through Wednesday
02:54night. So a bit of a chillier start first thing on Friday morning than it will be on
02:58Thursday morning. As we go through Friday itself, then a large chunk of the day will
03:02be largely fine. Plenty of sunshine around, albeit winter sunshine, so not especially
03:08strong. But later, as we go into the afternoon, another system makes its way in, and this
03:12is going to bring some heavy rain, some strong winds initially across parts of Northern Ireland.
03:17But as we go through Friday afternoon, it is going to push into western parts of Scotland,
03:21England and Wales as well. And with that, then we have another warning. This time it's
03:27a rain and wind warning because we could again see gusts of around 60 to 70 miles per hour,
03:33perhaps even 80 miles per hour, and some rainfall totals really building up as well as we go
03:38through the end of the day Friday and particularly through much of Saturday. And with that as
03:43well, temperatures, well, they're a little bit lower than on Thursday, but still not
03:47too bad for the time of year. But with all the wet and windy weather arriving as we go
03:51through the end of Friday and beyond, it's really going to feel quite unpleasant. If
03:55we look further ahead, and it's worth bearing in mind that this area of low pressure that
03:59brings that unsettled weather into the weekend, there is quite a bit of uncertainty about
04:03it, uncertain as to how deep it's going to be, how intense and uncertain as the track
04:08it's going to take. It could go across central parts of the UK. It could go further south,
04:12in which case we may not see quite as much rain and the strongest winds. But it's just
04:17worth bearing in mind that Saturday in particular could be a wet and windy day for many places,
04:21especially for England and Wales, turning quieter on Sunday as high pressure builds
04:26in from the west. And this is – well, we're pretty confident on this, higher confidence
04:30for the fact that we are going to see high pressure building and so a more settled start,
04:34albeit a chillier start, to the beginning of next week. We will, of course, have more
